What is Duty Roulette actually doing?

I always thought it was set up to help new players queue dungeons when most higher level players don't want to run them. I did not realize they were queueing this way. I have had a blast re-running all these with the Roulette so I do love the idea overall.

I thought it was to get experienced players to queue to help out new players. Especially healers and tanks.

No love for the low-levels? Shucks, if I could queue for Roulette and get Sastasha, Copperbell, Tam-Tara, Toto-Rak and Halatali all the time - especially Sastasha and Copperbell - to help out first-timers, I'd start queueing again. Easy runs for brownie points? No problemo!

Ok, let me frame a concise question since discussion is (for some reason) veering into "intent of the duty roulette":

Has anyone had an in-progress roulette since 2.16?

I've gotten 5 today - 5 Duty Roulette In-process Pharos today hence my other dungeon post.

Ok since it's related, I have DR a few times and 0/1. I joined then no one in the instance. The zone has not been even touched. Is my side not loading right or people trolling ques?

Had a tank in a run this happened to today. Three of us are there, dungeon starts, i look around for tank. Not there. He says "where are you guys?" About a minute later he pops in. He said it wasn't slow loading, because he was in a dungeon alone, moving around, and so were the other three of us. I've never had this happen before.

Though i have read of it being able to place you into in progress when everyone else has left, but thought that they fixed that.

They did, what happens is the group loses someone, so the "leader" just automatically hits the button to find replacements. But then they all leave anyways, and someone accepted that queue before they all left. Happens far more often on Primals. People just don't think when they hit yes.

the progress marks (0/3,1/3 etc)its been disable now to prevent the witdraw from players, this was mentioned on the patch notes i belive

That was specifically for CT (in patch 2.15), and just makes what used to be X/4 now 0/1 regardless of the progress. There is no indication of what you're describing anywhere in the 2.16 patch notes, unless you want to point it out: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...91ba3f787720f1
