I do miss going through story content {COP} with parties and not doing pretty much the whole story mode solo. But looks like those days are gone. I would go back to complete all these in FFXI but Don't want to pay for a subscription again. Maybe if it was $5 or something a month.

This counts for me as well.
I've played and enjoyed FFXI for close to a decade, but the changes brought forth by the latest expansion completely ruined it for me.
Within a single update all the content they had carefully preserved, tweaked and updated over the years was made completely irrelevant and it got replaced by something that was fun and challenging at start but later on became no more than a grind of the same thing over and over.
I look at the FFXI forums once in a while to see if anything new has been added that's worth my time and attention but the only reason I would go back there is for nostalgic reasons.
Which in the end will likely leave me disappointed and asking myself why I resubscribed.

I recently started playing both games again. XI did have a little certain charm to it. Granted I don't have the seekers expansion. It's nice going back to Vana'diel. Of course after playing games that hold your hand, XI gets a little tough lol. But not sure which FF game i'm going to stick with so it depends on how many people I meet. Definately going to follow this thread and see where folks end up. I have 2 toons on Bahamut, one that i've had for a bit but i'm actually lost on where to begin with him again and another that just got the subjob quest so i'd be willin to delete him and start on a new server.

i have played XI for past 8 years since October 28, 2003 it was basic my first mmorpg and it was that noob experiance and community who keept me playing.
I still have my box with all CDr disk and it was best game i ever played by far.
It was not easy game at begining but made friends and i still playing with most of them in xiv today.
But i would never go back to XI again i been there done that!.
Community was alot different maybe beacuse exp partys was more common then soloing.
Age of valkurm dunes ftw! chased by ghost and IT goblins :)

I've said for a long, long time now; I'd subscribe and play for years to ffxi IF a server was made with the old rules, old loot system, old hnm pop system, old leveling system, and everyone on said server was level 1.
You know, a basic roll back to the release of the game, stagger out expansions on the same schedule over the next decade. Yeah, it's hard core and not for everyone, but I'd sign up in a heartbeat for that!

I've been subscribed to FFXI since the original Japanese release, quit playing back on October 30th, 2010, resubscribed August 2013 (same month ARR came out), and didn't touch it till the beginning of this month, lol.
I have to say though, I don't have the last Abyssea mini expansion or the most recent expansion, but I've been playing the crap out of it for the past 9 days on Asura.
The Trust system is absolutely amazing and completely necessary to deal with low population numbers. The best part is that the AI of the Trust system realizes when it should and should not do something and when another element of the Trust, say a tank, needs to get hate, it scales back till the tank has hate (AI tank or yourself).
Unfortunately, with Trust it doesn't allow real players to party with you if you have even one trust character summoned, making party play not worth it at all. You still need to rest to recover HP and MP as well, while Trust NPCs regenerate both in between fights at a rapid pace (well, compared to your own while resting).
While Trust is completely necessary, they really should take out the party restrictions at this point, because as it stands now, the community simply does not communicate with one another like they used to back when we were forced to party together. The world feels completely empty, even with 1500 players on Asura at prime time. =(
