You're welcome to join us in the tech support forums, OP. Bring your traceroutes. We're equally ignored there, but there is a bit less "fix it yourself, no one cares if level 3 only speaks to companies" going on. We've been trying to reach out to them anyway when our ISPs shrug us off.

I live fairly close to montreal but it doesn't seem to matter. I did a tracert and my ping doubles as soon as it hits cogentco, assuming it doesn't drop the packet. it's painfully obvious when titan is going to lag-landslide me off and there's nothing I can do about it.

I live on the West Coast using Cox Communications and my route goes through that same Level3 router and causes me problems as well. Not all of the time, but usually on high traffic days like Monday.

Actually it's more likely the change in the position polling rate causing more bandwidth usage through those routers.

I've seen both sides of this issue. My apartment does not have this problem however when I visited my mother over the holidays the game was absolutely unplayable without a VPN. I used WTFast for the 2 weeks I was there but they do offer only a 1 month trial so I can absolutely understand your pain. If you suffer this issue you need an incredible amount of luck to clear titan or ifrit ex without a VPN or a serious carry.

I do believe SE should not push content that relies on split second movement. It segregates a lot of players and makes it hard to experience the game with friends. A lot of people have to get left behind and it makes everyone very cranky.

Challenge should be based on group coordination, strategy and understanding your job. Individuals ability to instantly move should not have a huge impact on performance. Moving out of things is fine but it should simply be a challenge of seeing and moving with a grace period to allow for latency / different players reaction ability. Playing games on the internet is going to lag sometimes for some players. Every lag spike shouldn't be a wipe especially with 8 people needing to all not have lag for an extended period of time. FFXIV has the shortest windows of any MMO I've seen yet has more notorious lag problems then most. I've never needed a vpn to make an MMO playable before.

Short window reaction on the internet is a silly mini game, a false challenge and isn't close to the challenge an MMO can offer. If you think it's a challenge worth holding on to then I welcome you to play the "too fast, too slow" hand slap children's game, as that is a true test of your reaction and skill.
