Rose Gold caps at 12 Parry. So does Gryphonskin.

With Gryphonskin, you can get the same stats as Rose Gold, except you get 45 DEX on top of it. Mathematically, there is no reason to use Rose Gold over Gryphonskin.

except that you can meld Dex to rose gold if you want DEX (same caps). And its cheaper to meld dex then it is to meld parry, because STAT materia is generally way cheaper then any other materia.
this may be server specific but I've heard teh same from people on other servers.

So really, mathmatically they're equal, but Rose Gold can be done more cheaply. You can get basically the same end results based on what you want, but the cost of doing so is significantly different.

Suppose I melded Vit 8, Crit 9, Parry 6, Parry 6, Vit 2 to a Gryphonskin Choker HQ. The total stats I would have on that ring is:

10 Vitality, 9 Strength, 9 Dexterity, 12 Accuracy, 12 Parry, 8 Determination, 9 Critical Hit Rate.

Show me how to get those equivalent stats by pentamelding a Rose Gold Gorget HQ.

(Rose Gold Gorget HQ starts with 10 Vitality, 12 Parry, 6 Determination.)

Pretty good post. I still don't know why though anyone needs to go the extreme mile of penta melding just to increase dps when all of your dps are already i90 (since it it easier with 450myth cap and ex primals). I thought the whole issue with crafted gear died a month ago.

Because:

1) It makes their character better. Why do people farm Twintania to become better at beating Twintania? Because they like being stronger.

2) It costs a fraction of what it used to. This entire set cost me maybe 600-700k. A single piece used to cost 2.0m. This isn't as extreme as you say.

3) It doesn't cost Myth. Warrior isn't everyone's main. Spending Myth on your left side and Gil on your right side works perfectly for tanking anything that isn't Twintania. Primal Fending jewellery is pretty bad.

Twintania drops only 1 or 2 BiS items for your class (allagan weapon included). The other BiS are obviously myth or t1-t4, all of which are obtainable since you're at T5. I don't think two pieces of gear is gonna change the game for your team, especially not with BiS for warrior since all it's gonna do is give you more parry while reducing your DPS.

Edit: oops my apologies for digressing. I do agree that it makes their characters better. But is it really worth while? Keep into consideration that you're only a tank.

I agree it costs a fraction and I would recommend getting melded stuff for new tanks. But I would also advise new tanks to keep saving myths and get mytho gear. When I meant extreme, I meant leveling all the necessary crafter classes and getting the materia for penta melding, spending all that time and effort; not everyone has so much free time to play this game, myself included! :(

I also agree that not everyone's main is a tank, but if you have not bought all the BiS myth gear for your main, you shouldn't even think about focussing so much on your alternate. If you really want to play a tank, most likely you would only want to tank simple stuff like AK/WP or hard mode primals. Dark light gear would suffice.

I've actually started tanking everything in my hybrid tank/dps set just to see how it went.

With HQ buttons, in party and defiance on, I sit at 8.1k+ HP, 410 STR, 360 DET. This is without melded jewelry, using mostly i90 DPS Allagan/Primal accessories. I tank T1/T2/T4 (double dreads)/Titan+Ifrit EX and receive no complaints from healers about damage taken.

My DPS has been the following (all with defiance on 100% of the time):

T1 Snake: 200
T2: 170-180+
T4: 150-160+
Primals: 150-170+

With more tweaking to skill/cooldown usage and trying to toggle defiance, I'm sure I could eventually pull 200 DPS on each of those fights... All in all I feel a DPS build for WAR tanking is definitely worth it.

I also want to add a note for gear sets to everyone.

Sure, Coil 1-4 has that pesky accuracy requirement of 472, and then the worsened 481 for T5.

BUT! Did you know that the Primals (Extreme) don't seem to have any accuracy requirement?

I have successfully gone through each Primal fight in gear that maximizes Determination/Skill Speed/Crit with 0 emphasis on Accuracy. I had less than 390 if I remember correctly, in full ilvl 90 Tank gear with a mix of ilvl 90 Striking and Fending accessories.

So another way to Maximize DPS on the Primals is to drop all accuracy you can. Toss that Stupid Dual-Haken into the trash! Bravura Zenith 4Lyfe! <3

This is the kind of mindset I think tanks should all get rid of. "I'm only a tank. DPS is not at all important to my role." A DPS increase improves your group as a whole. It doesn't matter where it comes from as long as it's not a major compromise to the rest of your job.

On Titan EX, I usually hover at around 170-190 DPS as a Warrior. I'm still well over 8000 HP. Warriors who ignore their own DPS, never drop Defiance, don't keep Maim up and don't use Storm's Eye, and use maximum HP + Parry gear usually do about 90-100 DPS. I don't think anyone can deny the benefit of adding 80 DPS to your group. Even if you don't want to spend money on i70 crafted gear, 150 DPS is still possible.

Melding doesn't entail leveling crafter classes. I'm not a 50 LTW, but many of my friends are.

I may sound like an idiot here..... But you are comparing STR stats versus VIT states and I can understand both sides.... sweet out side the box thinking.

My question is now.... Is there EVER an opportunity to use DEX Stats.... Bard accessories???

Im just wondering is skill speed and DEX at all can do any kind of help.... maybe in running through combo's quicker in order to squeeze one more storm's path/storm's eye into rotation...

Id be curious if there is ANY content in which this could be useful.... and the question is USEFUL.... obviously not ideal under any circumstance
