Considering the download times, I totally agree.

Aren't you guys forgetting that they may also be removing things as well as adding things? Like when the auto-attack comes in, they are going to remove the stamina gauge

So... wouldn't they remove that when they patched 1.18 :S

Wow. Everything about ffxiv is messed up. I was hoping they'd be able to increase performance considering how bad the textures and lighting/shading are in the game, but if they can't even make a patching system work, I've completely lost faith in Square-Enix's ability to program a multiplayer game.

If you run it through hex editor (winhex) you see what files are contain in the patch and where they're copied to, All of 1.17 patches have contain the exact same files.

1.17a was different than 1.17b

There's more to this than just bug fixes. I promise you. I'm looking at one of the changes right now in game.
