How do we obtain Commendation achievement awards?

Back in the day (FFXI) we didn't even have map markers for STORY quests, let alone side quests or random obscure stuff like this.
And in the first year there was no wiki, so we had to find stuff by ourselves, or hear feint rumors of how to complete quests from other likewise newbs.

second) when i got that tutorial i was mid boss fights sometimes people cannot read them due to the annoying (?) in the centre of the screen

although i do beleave it says where to go in the achievement listings anyway

or google, google is always a good way to awnser questions :D

i think it is a matter of conditioning. quest awards go straight into inventory or chest, so players are accustomed to that happening.
