Thats silly, by your thinking the white mage class would lose half of its spells, since Stone Water and Aero are all trademark black mage spells, Black mages wouldn't get Quick Cast as its a Red Mage trademark ability, And scholars shouldn't be a primary healing pet class.
Bingo.
Please list the games of the main franchise that go through this progression.
Only one I can think of is FF3. I wouldn't count FFX since you only got the title for Yuna after the end of the game. She was summoning just fine all before.
Anyway, list those against the games that had Summoners.
Then list it against all of the main Franchise.
Summoners that go through that progression are not the majority by any standard. If other games didn't follow, why does FFXIV need to?
Summoners as its own job stop being a thing after FFIV anyway.
Final Fantasy makes stand alone games so there's room to reinvent design while also evolving the current.
A balance between tradition and innovation is what Final Fantasy is about, imo. SE can turn the Summoner closer to a High Summoner in an expansion or something.
It also doesn't need to be held to that either considering the very little history of Summoner evolution may be less interesting design options than just improving pet synergy and gameplay mechanics.
just cuz it not what u consider Summoners doesnt mean it not what S.E wanted just got to deal. And sorry but Summoners are op as they are now combine them with black mage just stupid
I see what you mean and while that specific scenario is quite doubtful I could believe in another scenario. There have been mentions of "advanced jobs" and I find it believable that smn could be a prerequisite for such a job. I can however guarantee you that it will NOT summon any primals.
Also such additions usually do not happen in mmos until about 3 years down the line, minimal.
