Transmog sounds a lot like the 'vanity' system in Tera - which is a royal pain in the backside. I do hope, for user friendliness if nothing else, they don't go down that road.

Thinking about this though, this method would be a little more unfair towards caster classes. Most "non-special" gear is usually labeled as "All classes" which would mean that with vanity any role could equip it. This would mean tank classes would have the greatest choice for vanity since they can pretty much wear 99% of the sets in-game (outside of AF and such).
If the current proposed system only allows vanity slots to be filled with the same functional gear that class can wear, casters will be getting the raw deal. A CNJ can't equip plate-mail, but a PLD can go ahead and equip that "All Class" robe or that "Deciple of War" tunic, or even that tank-only set of boots.
I don't like the idea of class restrictions, maybe for pvp, but otherwise why take away a great opportunity for players to customize their look? The main characters have this, Yda, for example, wears mostly monk gear, except for those red heavy war/pld boots and the all female class pantalettes (those shorts with a slit on each side, which you have to be hyur for it to have this look). I think it looks damn cool, it gives her character, uniqueness.
I'd love to be able to play with my character's style like that, make it somewhat unique (tho other people might choose the same combinations as me...). Would a monk wearing a hooded robe be so far fetched and anti-immersive? Or just wearing some of the crafter gear that looks more like town clothes, like a jerkin, doublet or Vest? There's a lot of style design possibilities here, it would greatly add to the customization that the sadly lacking character face creation has (we all have a twin somewhere... or two... or...).
Sure, it'd be weird for a monk to wear a heavy armor and flanchard, but whatever (that could just be listed as unwearable for the vanity slots). I think that would still be more unique than all the half-naked characters we're probably going to be swarmed with.
I've created a few characters, outside of games, and one of the coolest part about it, whether I'm drawing it, modeling it or just plain writting about it, creating the way they look is just as important to me as creating their personality. In fact, it's even more fun because I can use it to reinforce or contrast that personality.
Basically, I want choice. More options than simply those of my class.
What would break my immersion: a character not being able to wear her White Mage's AF gear while holding an axe even though she has both classes levelled. There's no reasonable excuse to restrict the vanity system.
After all, if you have the White Mage AF gear...it means you ran the content to get it. You did the quests, you levelled the class up to the requisite level. You should be able to wear it with any other class you want because you have earned the right of wearing that outfit as long as it's on the vanity slot and you have one of the requisite classes levelled.
Yoshi has already stated that with the vanity system he doesn't want to see mages in tank armor, or tanks in caster armor. You will be restricted by what your class/job can normally wear, if the item has your job/class listed in it's requirements then yes, you can wear it on that class with the vanity system.
This is totally super old news though. In fact I believe it was explained in a live letter before the game even launched. And I am fine with that.
Of course, you are going to see "Miqo'te in swimsuits" because they aren't restricted (the swimsuits, and really any/all event gear) to any specific class. It really shouldn't matter to you what someone wants to make their character look like using the vanity system. What should still really only matter is if those players are decent enough at their class/job to make the dungeon run a nice smooth and enjoyable experience.
