You'd lose 6 mind, 6 Vit and a couple secondaries, trying to use vanya. That's A LOT to make up even for a penta-meld. The best argument you can make is "yay critical!" which refers back to the post about finding excuses to try to call things BiS when they aren't.

Gryphonskin is BiS (if you have enough effective HP to survive the encounter you're going into) for tanks only. Though I suppose, albeit a technicality, that would be "multiple" jobs.

For the last point, I've never seen a mage use the ring for vitality. Some used <- them because they edge out VERY minutely, from one viewpoint, other rings as BiS -- even in that case, it was only when you had all the other gear to provide the proper stats to support using an i70 ring.

Don't worry; I hate that all of my crafting jobs are largely useless for any sort of endgame, too.

As a WHM going into Turn 5, this jewelry is practically one of 2 options. My other option is to restat into full Vitality to hit that 4.2k HP mark which I want to avoid like the plague. I have 3 pieces of HQ iLvl 70 jewelry and once I get the money, all 3 will have a Vit +8 materia on them among the 4 other melds. Black Mages and Summoners also have to go through this or face the alternative.

And for the Vanya, please remember that when a SCH crits it's shield, it's effect is doubled. No amount of MND can bridge the gap between that. Yes while having MND is nice, I'd rather take the RNG out of crit as much as I possibly can

A whole... 1%, maybe. Like the other person said, everyone will try to find reasons to say not BiS is BiS. :)

Everyone is free to wear what they feel is best, and if you like to wear the rings cuz you need the HP, you are free to. I'm fairly sure you're in the minority in that regard, though. Everyone's BiS sets like... everywhere for whm/sch have no crafted accessories.

If it works for you, though. Roll with it. The ... 348 HP that would come from 3x crafted (vit+8) accessories shouldn't be the have to have or die.

5 HQ accs each with vit+8 is 576 HP, along with crit, det and spell speed I can put on makes it truly viable for me as a whm. Full 90 left side and full 70 HQ right side gives you 5k HP with buff food. And yes there are enough situations where 300 hp make the difference between life or death. I like the buffer to survive a little mistake and sacrifice that bit of mind. My cures are healing for 1k anyway and is sufficient right now.

That's just 3 examples, but I wish people would stop saying crafters are useless. We ARE useful, put the effort into looking at what you can craft. Yes you can go for iLvl 90s, but just because it's iLvl 90 doesn't exactly mean it's better

Ninten specifically said 3 crafteds so i said 348. You wear it as a buffer for >mistakes<, again, whatever works for you. It makes you more comfortable, knock yourself out.

No. You wear it to survive fireball in turn 5. Every mage in t5 that I've seen uses 1 or more vit melded accessories, at least until they can get a full i90 left side. You are pulling false info out of your butt to try to prove a point that is non-existant. Vit melded accessories have been and still are a major part of surviving fireballs in Turn 5.

The options to spiritbond i70 crafted gear just went through the roof as well, and there's a bit more philosophy coming in (beastmen dailies) + more and more people aren't using it to buy gear they'll use and thus try to sell mats. Getting an i70 just to spiritbond it may start to be a viable option for many people - depending on how high combat IV materia goes back up vs how low tome mats go.

I wouldn't expect the Grade IV (combat) materia to return to pre-patch prices. Gathering (did anybody even buy grade IV gathering materia?) and Crafting Grade IV have a slightly better chance of rebounding. Likely won't until we get to a point they're actually needed rather than just there for lulz. Which is probably not until 2.2 at the earliest.

I'm glad the pudding flesh adjustment happened. I would rather see more Mega potions in the market and in use with pudding flesh being more common than it being some rare overlooked ingredient. That's an oversight.

The materia IV market though, I do have mixed feelings about. The desire to spiritbond iLevel 55 for a chance of a tier IV to drop just got thrown out the window. Would rather sell one (or two) HQ militia items and buy a tier IV materia as it is.

Also, the way I see it is that there are a lot of players flooding back in during 2.1 for a while. And once it dies down and a few folks go quinmeld happy, the tier IVs of those select materia will start to climb back up.

Philotome ingredients however I think are doomed to stay their current price and/or continue to drop.
