don't get me wrong alot of these songs in itself are pretty good. they would be a decent soundtrack to just randomize, but to listen to on repeat is worse than farming puk wings. i just feel as though a single song for hours in the same location is just extreme. no matter how good the song is i cannot listen to any song on repeat 500 times in a row. if we had multiple songs per zone instead of the same song repeating i don't think i'd have as much a problem with it.
as i am now i just have a lil url streaming program i made a few years ago and just select the type of music i want to listen to and play that. it's not like i am going to miss any important voice overs to let me know something is going on.
I liked the FFXIII ost myself, but some people can't get used to Masashi Hamauzu's ambient tracks and his relatively heavy use of piano in his compositions. But he produced one VERY unique final boss music....which I love to bits. Though I must say, the victory theme in FFXIII is so...pathetic. And some rather really ambient pieces were...plain and boring.
FFXIV ost is marvellous IMO, though probably because I accept a huge range of music styles. I personally like how the battle themes have returned to Uematsu's rock roots, though I say that some pieces are overly bombastic. Coerthas, however....simply stunning and serene. La Noscea is not far from being a favourite as well.
The music of 11 will be forever etched in my memory; however I think 14 has awesome music and in my mind they are the same with maybe 14 a little better. The music is the Black Shroud is enchanting.
im sorry guys, but you're way off. XIV does not compare to XI....not even close IMO. The songs in every zone perfectly matched the mood you felt in them. Not only that, it also felt as if those songs had meaning, (i hope im not talking out of my ass here) like they were telling you a story of that zone. You cant help listening to gustaberg and thinking what happened in gustaberg, and why is that place a barren wasteland. You can feel the sadness that the ppl there carry with them......thanks to that song lol
Mimmo, your taste and mine are different. You cannot call us way off because we accept other music you don't, and vice-versa. Tell me, then, how does Rolanberry Fields theme work in the area? Slow and dull? I don't think so, but that's what the music says to me.And the Sauromugue Champaign? Even worse, repetitive, weird instruments and tones and an awful beat that goes with it. And does Chateau Doraguille really fit with the castle it's meant to be part of? I would expect a very grand, army-based mansion rising off a cliff, not what a royal and proud family will be running. And Regeneracy is nothing but arpeggios leaping around for a minute with bell chimes and a low bass motif running through.
Of course, FFXI has its gems; Ronfaure, Sanctuary of Zi'tah, Memoro de la Stona, Gustaberg, Selbina etc. but you can't base a soundtrack off its gems and not some garbage it displays. I loathe Sauromugue Champaign with a passion. We all have different opinions, and calling us 'off' for having a different one, especially about a topic as subjective about music, is short of rudeness. Sorry to be blunt, but please, spare a thought when you start degrading other people's opinions with comments such as that.
If you can, tell us what tracks you dislike from FFXIV. Put them here, so we can bleed our ears out if we have to.
EDIT: Neptune! Get in while I'm typing this, why don't you. :) Still love you though. /em hugs Neptune Deepsea.
Well it's all about taste aint it? Think both games have good music and manages to set the mood.
Take care!
The quality of the music is the same both are really great, the difference to me is that in XIV there are 5 zones and 3 cities. I know the zone are huge compared to XI but why not add more music a biggere range so there there is more variation it would be nice to have the music change while i run from LL to bloodshore to ironlake to skull valley then back to LL. Thats like having the same music from sandy all the way to bastok but in that case (east ron, la thane, the dunes, konsorat, gustaburg) but each zone had its own unique sound.
Simple fix to get it on par with XI just add more.
