I agree on 1-20 being slower but not really on 40-50 faster, thats already pretty easy of a grind unless its fieldcraft. 1-10 is crazy though, and can be done in less than 45 mins.
I was going to post a thread about missing the old sp curve line but thought it'd be a flame fest. I miss when having your subs leveled meant SOMETHING.
Now anyone can do it in a few days.
Agreed. 1-20ish is way too fast and the final levels are ungodly slow.
I agree that 1-20 goes way too fast. I remember in FFXI, 1-20 was where you learned your job so that you would be ready to party with others by the time you got to Qufim. I remember running around in Ghelsba killing Orcs until level 10 and then going to Valkurm and realizing that pugs drill your face open with no remorse.
Those beginning levels are important because they:
1) Taught you your job.
2) Introduced you to the game and the beastmen
3) Taught you to be careful with certain types of monsters.
In FFXIV it's more like:
1) Equip weapon. Do 2 levels and reach level 12 already. What did you learn about your class? Nothing? That's probably because you didn't have time during your level to attach your new abilities to your action bar and learn them a bit. It might also be because you went from 1-12 in under 20 minutes.
2) You don't even see a Goblin until probably 30+ so there's no real introduction of a threat in the game. I miss Orcs, and the Yagudo. They felt dangerous. It was something to watch out for because they could literally be right behind you at any given moment if you didn't watch yourself.
I think its fine, theres nothing between 1-20 so dont span it out. 20 is where quests start, and the fast pace hooks in all the new people as they'll feel like they're getting somewhere quick.
Especially when the level cap goes up.
quests shouldn't be STARTING at level 20. They should be starting the second you start the game. They should be what leads you into knowing your new world. You shouldn't have to be level 20 before you get that. Granted, it takes like 2 hours, but still. For new-comers of the game, they're going to look at it be like "Really? This is ridiculous." 1-20 goes WAY too fast, and everyone knows it. I get that there isn't much to do between those levels, and that's one of the problems, but I'd much rather take a couple days (or a very long day) getting to 20 rather than getting it in a couple hours. Gives you no chance to learn your class effectively enough for parties.
