I think the White Mage outfits were designed with children in mind, seeing as the only NPC White Mages we see are Padjal, a.k.a. creepy, horned, hundred-year old,Gridianian mage-children.

I firmly believe Whm and Brd were designed around the female figure. There is no way anyone thought the AF gear of these two jobs would look good on a male character.

[EDIT] As a guy, I always used the AF pants as my official "swimsuit" since I really don't like the swimsuit designs they gave us.
