I have to agree. I've done turn 1-4 as both blm and drg and I dredge having to go blm. I'm just glad that 2.1 is buffing melee. It is true that they have the most mechanics to dodge as a DD and deserve to do more damage than ranged for that fact alone. The toughest part about turn 2 as a melee, in my opinion, is timing LB, but even that is easy enough once you get the rhythm of the fight down.
