Arcanist Japanese names

Minor point, but I'd also like to add that 'adloquium' is latin for giving encouragement to someone. It syncs up well with the japanese spell name being a reference to army morale. :p

And yes, I'll admit the entire Arcanist questline felt quite different from the other two Disciplines of Magic. It felt like Arcanists take something of a pragmatic/'magic is mathematics' stance to magic, referring to arcane geometries and strategies (the female Miqo'te that accompanies you in particular) rather than more mystical and esoteric elements such as the Elementals for Conjurers/White Mages or 'the Abyss' (realm of the dead?) for Thaumaturges.

Also, this post just reminded me that Paladins are actually called Knights (ナイト, Naito) in Japanese. <_<

I actually googled the name as I made the original post. It is very similar, but I got the impression that 'adloquium' was a little more personal.

Same with Succor as well (I actually didn't need to google that one =P).
They're much softer expressions (at least succor, never seen 'adloquium' used in a conversation)
Which is why it's more like a priest consoling than an army scholar increasing morale.
Guess I wouldn't think priest though, if Sacred Soil wasn't called....Sacred Soil.

Sacred soil is the big one, really sort of changes the way one looks at the class. Would have been nice to see more emphasis.

Sort of tangential but is 'Green Eyes' supposed to be a reference to something else? I feel like it is but all my guesses so far have seemed off.

No idea what it means. Actually The Japanese get a completely different title - "the Oeilvert".
This seems to be a reference to the FF9 town that has a barrier around it.

Green Eyes is either some meme I'm unaware of, another semi-obscure FF reference or just a reference to the color Summoner soulstone and weapon glow.
Maybe the summoner quests will shed light on it.

EDIT:
The summoner title is the only different one from the Japanese titles strangely. All others are the same.

I think Green Eyes is a reference to the character Wiyu from the quest text.

Ah, very neat connection you made there. There are a lot of differences in the JP and EN naming conventions in this game. Really paints the picture more clearly in JP I'd say.

On the class name itself: Here we get Arcanist which would mean manipulator of arcane magic (which is somewhat true in summoning pets) but over there they get Tomoe Grafter Specialist which basically means abstract geometrical drawing specialist which is literally what the class does to cast its spells.

Though on the other side of the fence we have Conjurer actually being "Illusion Specialist" (no illusions present unless the elementals are just illusions) and Thaumaturge being "Hex Specialist" (not really seeing any hexes in their lineup) in JP. Wonder if they'll go back and change the JP class names for those two to better show off what they do. If they leave it as is it really makes me wonder what they'll give them for 2nd jobs.
