Classic Gil in a vase trick

We dig a hole in the ground and place a large jug inside and fill it up with 4feet of honey. Add a trapdoor on to and then place gil into the honey and close the door. Lalafell are know to smell sweet stuff and gil, the trick here is lure them to the trap door and they fall through it. Inside the sides of the jug we will use lanolin to prevent escape, then again they probably don't care since they are happily counting gil and drowning in honey

Pros: Jugs and honey are relatively cheap and this trap is easy to make.
Cons: Cats are curious and make go there since they have a keen sense of smell (they like gil and honey too. We can make the trap door to only fit Lalafells but Cats have slender and flexible bodies, they may just make it into the jug through the trap door and get trapped inside

I got that covered. Plan 2 can easily be adapted to deal with this issue.
