Yes lets add kicking to a already broken game . To just annoy the very few people left playing...
So lets imagine, if i have a tank, who are realy bad, don't write, and only use mutilate skill like i have already see, so don't generate any agro, so he don't tank at all. We can't kick him ? Because he move and are not DC. Now lets imagine we meet someone who want to troll, make us wipe, by doing bad thing, this is the same. I realy want a vote kick, when everyone do is job well, and comunicate, they will never be any problem. But when you meet someone who will make you fail the dungeon, what the point ? Vote kick is very good, right click, submit a vote kick, and explain the reason to all other member of the party. If its wrong, he will don't be kicked, because the other will don't agree with the reason. And i know what you will tell me, if you are with 7 friend, and you want kick the 8th guys at the end. Well, i don't know, maybe try to do something on this, but vote kick should be there.
I've been against a kick function so far for the reason you are mentionning amongst others.
But there might be ways to mitigate this specific abuse by not allowing use of votekick if the majority of players are "Friends" or FC-mates (in the case if the kick would be a majority vote).
In any case, it has already been announced that a kick function would come. Hopefully, "with restrictions" won't be dumb restrictions that leave vast room for abuse and/or make it useless.
If it's only afks it'll be incredibly useless, as those people will find ways to abuse it. (Hey lets make a macro that casts a spell every 10 mins!)
People keep talking how vote to kick would be awful and constantly abused, yet at the same time the forums are full with threads about abusive players, afkers, trolls and so on, exactly the kind of behaviour that vote to kick can take care off.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Trolling is a lot easier when one person can mess the run up for the entire group rather than when you need a group to troll a single person.
Vote to Kick is the lesser of two evils. It takes multiple people, the majority of a group, to abuse a well implemented vote kick system. It only takes one person to AFK, troll, chest farm bot, or otherwise act as a general disruption derailing a run.
In the MMOs I played with vote kicks I can only remember about two times where the system was genuinely abused. Already had far more troublemakers abuse the "take leave penalty or you're stuck with me, trolololo..." in the short time this game has been live.
If majority of the group doesn't want to play with you they should be able to get rid of you.
Well, ok, it can be abused, but it will take a significant amount of effort to do so if they implement it properly. Lets take a page out of Blizzards book:
- In all content, it's a "majority wins" system. However, there is a condition to this: If the group is a premade, they can NOT vote kick somebody by themselves. If 3 guildies queue for a 5 man dungeon and they all vote kick (3 of 5, so majority), it will NOT kick the person unless the 4th vote also says kick. This applies 25 man LFR content as well.
- In LFR, 5 unique people outside of a premade all need to first choose the option to kick before the vote will even appear to the rest of the group. The same rule applies to premades, as they themselves can NOT kick people out alone. They need the rest of the group to also agree. In which case, the person being kicked likely deserved it anyways.
- Initiating a kick (or taking part in one), automatically applies a cooldown on the person kicking. Simply put, if you vote to kick somebody, you can not do it again for a time. When that time is up, if you do it again, the next cooldown will be even longer. I've heard of it going as high as 8 hours before the person can take part in a vote kick again.
- Kicking absolutely 100% can NOT be done while in combat, shortly after combat, or with loot being rolled on.
I can't speak for Rift, but as for WoW, it's not even possible to do so (as I outlined above). In my 5+ years of playing, it has never been an issue in LFR (for as long as it has been around anyways), and very VERY few times has it happened in a dungeon.
If you've been on the receiving end of the kicks however... well, I can safely say that it's not a problem with the system. And with comments like this, I can guarantee that it was working as intended:
What you describe seems like a well-though system that would actually be usefull while limitting abuse. I'd love to see something like this here.
I'm not sure I trust SE to make something as clever, though (sadfully).
But I guess it's pointless to fall into cynism, all we can do is wait and see.
In all honestly, I expect this vote to kick system to be completely useless once it rolls out. I don't trust SE to put much thought behind this. Their staff probably aren't tolled often enough to know how much it ruins the experience. lol
