Really. On these forums you may read very obnoxious opinions from very cocky raiders who're just condescending people, in and out of the game. But in my personal experience, in a variety of MMORPG's, the OP's mindset is how it goes most of the time. People, on average, are much nicer than you may think.

I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I had my fair share of bad experiences in FFXIV (sadly, the average level of jerkiness in this game is a bit higher than what I've seen in most other MMO's), but you know what? IGNORE them. You know what's better than lying your way in with jerks, for your own enjoyment? DON'T PLAY WITH THEM. They don't deserve you, they don't deserve your lies; be honest and find nice people, that's how a game is enjoyed.

I PUG a lot, in many games, just because I like that (and one's FC might not always be online or available), and I can tell you that most people are willing to give you a chance. Just be honest about it and listen carefully, and ask questions if there's something you didn't understand. And if you screw up a fight: it's OK, it's normal, we all need some time to fully 'get' how to do these fights. What we don't like, however, is when people lie about their experience, don't want to learn anything, and don't own their mistakes. We all make mistakes. Lying about them doesn't get you any closer to a good result, let alone making you appreciated by your team. And let's not even talk about possible friendship which, eventually, is probably the point of playing game together, isn't it? Having a nice time, having fun, getting to know nice people and everything? :)

Everytime I go into A Primal Pug or a dungeon without my FC I write at the Start.

I understand your point better with this post. I do the same. I like to play with pugs as well or help random people out. Hydra/Chimera/Titan. When I play with the groups though, I just expect bad things to happen and I try to adjust or prepare. It might be the fact that I play a healer and I'm always watching what my party does or expect for things to go completely wrong at any given moment. I don't however believe people who screw things up are always making it up that they are inexperienced. Sometimes I tell people to take a deep breath and to calm down. It does help as well. We are all humans and there will be times when errors happen.

On a related note, we have plenty of access to guides and videos of things. I really think people should at least watch a video and learn your role in the fight. It is better than running blind in and hoping everything goes correctly.

Yeah right, premades, sure, if they ask for an experienced player, don't join, but in Duty Finder, most of the time if you say "Hi, I'm new here" either the tank or the healer bolts. One time, I joined a WP DF, the other DPS said the above line, and the tank LITERALLY said "God, people like you just ruin the game" and left. People..who join a DF dungeon for the first time was..the worst thing that tank could imagine.

I don't tell you when I'm new because if I do, I'd never progress in the damn game. Blame the elitists, not the newbies.

Yeah it always amazes me how many "experienced" titan groups you can join where half the team doesn't make it to heart phase.

This is my favorite. Had a decked out "elite" bard in a titan group once who died in phase 5 and then said "Where are the heals at?" As he was lying face down, the only casualty in the group. I was about to go off on him for not dodging, but I realized as the healer I didn't have the luxury of responding to his stupidity in the middle of the fight.

This isn't something that happens every single time however, you have to keep in scale the number of people that play the game and figure that as many people who aren't nice in the DF there have to be just as many who could or would be given the opportunity (especially those that are OFFERING help).

The people who play are just as human as you are and may be having bad days / experiences the same, I'm not saying it's right that it gets taken out on others in the DF but it happens, you shrug it off and re-queue.

But when you walk in and willingly lie or say nothing when someone is trying to HELP you, that comes off as worse to be honest, you hurt not only your chances but the chances of everyone else who weren't (until that point) having a bad day.

I would like to add that you should stop, don't advance even if the rest of the party takes off without you, and speak up immediately.

I got caught up in the rush my first time in AK and didn't mention anything. I figured "What's the harm? I can deal with the trash and then just ask when they pause at the first boss." Then they went straight into the boss without a pause, and I was healing up a storm with no time to type. And it continued that way, up to the Demon Wall and beyond.

Demon Wall, though, is no joke. I hadn't even been through WP and here I was not even noticing the pit, getting caught by lines regularly because I didn't know the pattern, and even when I did figure out what to do, my shining Job AF1 couldn't get me through the murder hole. I was pretty stressed out because of all the cursing I was taking, because I knew it was my fault, but I still couldn't find the time to type. Sheer luck (and a change of DD) brought the wall down, and the party finally found out I was there for the first time when I got the map achievement. One boss explanation later, and the boss died in 1.

My first time in WP (joining a group in progress no less) I made sure to say it was my first time, and I got a great explanation.

Always mention that it's your first.

Not to mention it depends on what you are doing and obviously if you have studied things beforehand. Going in with no info is just crazy.. no matter how much I'd like to do that btw, I mean it's not like if I play an offline game I immediately whip out a GameFAQ's guide and 200 YouTube videos, but in this game you have to do that and deny yourself the joy of figuring things out yourself if you want to avoid getting yelled at.

But yeah, most things have been extremely doable with a bit studying beforehand without telling anyone. The first tough things were.. AK, if I remember correctly. And then there's Titan. Gotta experience that to learn it.

Had a couple of people lie about their experience. It's OK since it's them who suffer. I remember shouting for an experienced tank for Titan HM, got one who said he was experienced, took his word for it... We all enter the instance, then he decides to go "Actually this is my first time here...". :| He lost aggro, died a lot, so we all left and he had to start over again with looking for a group and all that jazz. Like, it doesn't bother me if it's the 1 person who lies because, it's them who will end up without a group and be stuck shouting in Mor Dhona for hours. We can just go find someone else.

Though, if it was any other situation, I would take someone who had never done it before under my wing, give them time to learn the fight etc. But when we're doing it for someone else, and someone lied just to get in the group, then sorry, not worth our time.

Totally. As I said in this post. (lol, so many duplicate threads these days on this forum :p )

Personally, this is however why I prefer my first times with friends from my FC, because we can figure it out together, no pressure, then do research only if required :) (did it for Coil and Titan notably).
