Why are you not a tank?

As a war, all I can say is spam overpower for your first few gcds in a pack. Buff up, overpower, use enmity combo when around half TP and steel cyclone and flash. You'll keep hate. And you'll be able to adjust how many overpowers etc as you go along and get a feel for the enmity each job pulls and such.

EDIT: Tanking, especially as a war, while keeping hate and doing as much dps as possible, is incredibly fun. Once you get the hang of it of course.

Because I'm a DPS.

I like being the protector. I don't mind the grief I sometimes get.

I love me some speed runs but if I don't think my healer (I pug a lot) can handle it, I go easier on them. I like being the guy that gets to make that choice, because I am the quintessential Nice Guy Tank. I will get back up and go at it again and get some newbies the win.

As DPS, I don't feel like I have very much sway over the battle. I can't do much to really help the group and I dislike that. Tanking or Healing lets me do that.

Funny I ending up switching to tanking in my last MMO due to not being able to stand being a DPS. I find trying to manage endgame DPS rotation & number games both stressful and not very interesting; I've just got no drive to get those big numbers. I'm a very reactionary, in the moment type player so tanking is actually my favorite role and DPS my least favorite.

I usually end up at least reading up on new dungeons unless I'm doing it with people I know that all want to blind run it. No one loves an uninformed tank :p

I leveled PLD a lil while back to make my AK queue times faster and I really like it... but there are some DPS that make me not even want to touch PLD again. Mark mobs and people still want to do their own thing it sucks. And people wonder why we have a lack of tanks in the game.

most people don't want to be tanks because they don't want to be responsible if the party wipes even if it's not their fault.

No most people don't want to be tanks because they are tired of putting up with peoples BS, as one said earlier, you mark mobs they don't attack them and then they complain about getting agro. Every instance you have some smart dps that knows everything, and really all dps do is go through a rotation, they don't worry about anything.They see a mob they attack it no matter if the tank has agro or not they don't have to worry about anything just hit the 3 or 4 buttons over and over. You would think the hardest job in the game people would give you a little respect but they dont and i am tired of dealing with all the crud. I have no problem with timing an instance out, tanks need to stop putting up with the BS and just sitting down and timing them out till the person or persons leave. Just tonight 3 out of 4 groups were crap, i put off capping all week just because i don't want to deal with the DF trash and the only reason i haven't made my own is that my friends have not been on or i would have already capped.
