Looks like the player with a retainer named Dsgds was one of the culprit.

Same thing happened to me. I was in the middle of crafting when I got the "insufficent gil." Message. I was in Lomsa Lomnisa too and 2.1mil gil was taken. I received a viscous secretions hq. Please fix this asap and return our gil back to us. I was logged in too and on ps3.

I don't think it is an issue with with GSM. Anybody will be a potential victim.
I have came up with a theory. I think potentially it would be a case of packet editing.
