Yup, its going to be optional, so no worries. Besides that way, people who dont want to have to worry about "messing up" can just worry about gear and skills/party tactics.

I'm so glad and super embarrassed at the same time.
Anything that takes us away from the ragnarok point allotment schema and the shitty balancing caps that have ruined our damage calculations I approve of.
I'm still uncertain exactly what going to happen from the quotes we have.

Did you not actually read your own quote? It even says 'optional point allotment'.
I would like to see the option for personal and auto allocation.
I can totally see why the would want auto allocation from a balancing stand point too, even Diablo 3 will be using auto allocation.
Come end game there will be a favoured build and everyone will be expected to use it or a slight variation.
And of course if they are making stats more important gear will play a much bigger role in defining our characters, I really don't want to start a dungeon only to fine out the healer has all his points in STR and DEX.
Well the thing is that "optional point allotment" could mean two different things.
- Players have the option to allocate their points, instead of using the automated allotment.
- Players get optional points to allocate in addition to the automated allotment.
That is where my confusion lies. Is the "system" optional, or is the actual "point" optional?
