Yes I know but player's dont like the fact that he removes all melds but thats fine seeing as it is so easy to meld with the gaurenteed slots. If they just want just 1 meld removed than we should just use the old 1.0 melding system. Seriously cant have it both ways.

Other than an single accidental meld on a NQ instead of a HQ, I've never derped on a meld... but I still think the ability to remove materia individually - even just the last meld - is necessary. I'm not sure if it's the same on Balmung, but two tier IV craftsmanship materia will run you about 260k here on Hyperion. It's a lot more than just meld success rates. Materia, crafting materia especially, is very expensive, and there's no reason someone should have to replace them just because of one screwed up meld.
I deliberately wanted to approach this topic with humor cause after all, I am the one that screwed up. However, I do think that the suggestions I offer are good suggestions. It's as you say, "a few tweaks here and there". Make the interface more user-friendly to discourage mistakes; make the materia removal system stepwise such that you can undo a mistake.
For the former: when you are doing forbidden melds, you go through *so many* materia attempts its hard to communicate. Especially when you are doing penta-melds, and especially if you are doing them for a whole *set*. Having to select the item out of a long list each time is what encourages mistakes like this. If they reset the interface to the item you are trying to meld after a failure, the only mistake possible would be selecting the wrong kind of materia.
For the latter: the change in materia removal would not completely eliminate the 'pain' of a mistake: you would still 'lose' the materia you attached by accident. But it wouldn't ruin the entire 'item' and all progress up to that point, is the thrust of my suggestion.
To make it clearer: the pain in my mistake is not the fact that I 'lost' a Gathering materia on this item, or that I made a mistake on the HQ Goldsmith Doublet. If it were only that, I could just synthesize myself another doublet and replace the materia. The problem is that it already had two Craftsman's Competence IV on it, each of which is currently around two hundred thousand gil apiece. I can still 'use' the doublet as is; but I can never fill those three remaining slots as I was intending to.
To err is human; to forgive, divine. ;) We have to be careful but the best among us will make mistakes eventually. I would prefer a system which is more forgiving of mistakes than the current one is all. ;)
SE doesn't need to do anything to protect people here. You already have to click enough times to go through it. I don't need yet another confirmation box on top of what already exists.
You realize melding the wrong materia doesn't ruin an item right? You can talk to Mutamix in central thanalan to have your item wiped of materia.
Also, whenever someone is doing melding requests, I always ask them if they're sure if i think they're making a mistake. I'd honestly blame the person doing your melds for not catching an obvious error before confirming.
Also, its worth pointing out to the OP: You can still max the potential of that item even without wping the materia- You can't add any CP, and you can cap both control and craftsmanship with 3 materia. the remaining two slots can have whatever, because nothing else affects crafting.
