This topic is my issue with the game as it currently stands.
I find no incentive whatsoever to level up another class to 50 and gear up that job. IMO I'd just be gearing a job in i70 gear to do AK and WP with.
My way of thinking is that if I were to get the "urge" to go to coil on another job I would not only be gimping myself, but the entire group. If a group wants to perform at their peak they need everyone at theirs. So while I70 crafted gear 5x meld is very good, it is still a step below the I90 gear. Me taking up a spot in my I70 gear with no intentions at all of "main-ing" it means that I will never invest myths into this job, meaning no +1 weapon or Myth armor. Where-as another person who's invested myths could take my spot and (assuming same skill levels) out perform me.
The only incentive I see to do CT is to gear sub jobs. Hopefully this helps. -

Specialization should have some benefit. It will also feel like less of a grind as they add more patches. Alts will be guaranteed gear 1 tier lower than mains without any effort. I don't see the problem. -

I will, though, have multiple classes that I enjoy playing leveled up and work to get them geared appropriately when they reach the current level of endgame (both current and future). This will take time, and you know what? I'm totally okay with that.
Some classes/jobs will/do have gear that is usable and extremely useful for multiple class/job types. This is already currently an existing thing at endgame, when you look at the Darklight gear, the DoM DL gear in particular being that there is the Healing set which is used by CNJ, WHM, and SCH. Then there is the Casting set that incorporates ACN, SMN, THM, and BLM. Which basically boils down to 2 Jobs using the same set of gear. The only other current sets like this are for both Casters, Healers, and Tanks.
And then there is the Allagan (optional) ilvl90 dungeon drops which also do this same multi-job usage with the same set of gear. This is a good thing, and also alleviates the need for having multiple sets of armor for each job individually. Unless of course, you want to obtain their job specific armor with it's iconic FF looks. (which I know I do) The options are there and options are good things. For this being what there is available at launch, imo it's a pretty good variety of things to try and obtain. To people starting fresh it obviously is going to take a bit longer than those that started with max lvl 50s. The whole point of the game is to keep people continually playing and if you want the super cool special gear, you have to continue playing to do that.
Personally I've been enjoying the game. I enjoyed the leveling of my current main class/job from 1-50, completing the main story quests and doing "current pre-endgame" endgame content (lvl 50 dungeons, acquiring DL gear and progressing through the Hard Mode Primals and obtaining their weapons and then obtaining my first Relic Weapon). It's been fun and I'm not even done yet. Still have the whole current Coil to experience, and I want to obtain my full AF(1.5 or.. is it considered Relic) Armor (I had been calling it AF2.. but after the last Live Letter, apparently there will be actual armor dubbed AF2) and making my Relic Weapon a +1.
So heck, there's still plenty for me to do and when I finish obtaining everything I currently want to do on this main Job I have plans already in motion on what to work on next that most benefits the gains I've made with my current Job and then what I want to work on beyond that. Having some kind of idea or plan of what you want to accomplish definitely helps me to keep enjoying this game. Not to mention I am eagerly awaiting not just the updates, but the next expansion. Personally I really enjoy story quests, or even normal quests that have a lot of interesting information in them about lore topics. For me, that's how I enjoy the game.
If PvP ends up being enjoyable I will partake in it, because most of the PvP armors look very cool. So.. yeah, that's something else to look forward to as well.
But it's all going to take time to accomplish, you (or I) will not simply be handed it all on a silver platter. And I, at least, don't expect it to be. -
