Yeah, I wonder too.

Not planned for the first big patch so I would say it is safe to assume about 4 to 6 months minimum before we see any new classes.
Dark Knight will almost certainly come from MRD or GLA. The iconic weapons setup for Dark Knight is one-handed sword and shield -- almost every case has this setup (sans optional axes in WotL or the Black Knight of CC, then the lack of shield in X-2, then FF11's scythe or alternate greatsword). Additionally, a Dark Knight has the mechanics needed to beat the tank out of GLA, meaning it's actually a viable DPS job for that truck of a class. However, in terms of actual skillset, MRD is perfect for a Dark Knight. You couldn't make a better set of abilities for a Dark Knight if you started from scratch. Take your pick, but there's really no good reason to make a Dark Knight out of anything else.
Oh i would kill to play a Dark Knight, ever since FF4 I was in love with that class. BM is my universal favorite.
If they choose an existing two classes then it have to be either Glad and BM or MRD and BM, only options that make kind of since.
I say Glad and BM as kind of the two sides of the same coin that most games present them as, using the same type of weapons and armor. Making another viable Tank Class with some decent damage output.
MRD and BM seem to make since, from what i have heard of the MRD skills and to give another option.
I have not checked out either of the skill sets but i plan to get around to all War/Magic classes and max them. I think going with GLD though to give a third Tank Class for people to choose from since there are already 5 DPS jobs for people to pick between. It is entirely possible though that they could add a new class as a starting class for it, though would raise the question of what to put as that ones second job class.
Dark Knights have typically dealt self-damage for greater damage output (Dark Wave, Darkness) and if they have additional spells they've centered around decay, status ailments, life draining and necrosis.
Dimensions turned them into a tank (Draw Attacks), so I could see them going that route.
Admittedly they've used Black Mage as a prerequisite in the past, but what's funny is the class that most matches that second description right now is ACN.
Never played XI, so take that with a grain of salt.
From a mechanics standpoint, LNC+MRD would be best for a GLA Dark Knight. Bloodbath and Mercy Stroke from MRD plus Blood for Blood from LNC are easily the most effective and appropriate cross-class skills you can give any Dark Knight. If you start from Marauder, then you would go with LNC and either ARC or THM depending on design. If you are including casted abilities such as a casted stat drain ability, you could make good use of THM's Surecast and Swiftcast abilities. Otherwise, ARC has damage buffs. ACN would be a poor choice due to defensive focus (Virus, Physick, Eye for an Eye).
//EDIT: These being for a DPS Dark Knight, obviously. If they did some sort of stat-draining tank Dark Knight, then the needs would be much more ACN and less LNC.
In the Tank picture of new armor models there is a Greatsword. This could be a future DRK weapon hinting to them tanking.
My thoughts were more from a Tank standpoint thus why MRD or Gladiator as the primary and Thaumaturge/Black Mage as the secondary as for lore purposes... their power comes from the void. Which is much stated to be a negative place. So it makes some since to me in that matter and the second cross class would be dependent on what the primary would be.
As well i put Gladiator on the spot because whenever they are presented along side Paladins they are always two halves to the same coin. Using usually the type of weapons and armor.
I wholeheartedly say it would be Gladiator 30/Thaumaturge 15 to unlock Dark Knight.
Also i dont know the full mechanics and playstyles for the two tank classes so my information is just based on what little i currently know as well as what i know to be established both in 14 lore and in the lore of paladins/dark knights.
It is possible that they take a tank base and go DPS much akin to the Arcanist becoming the healing Scholar.
