Melee or Ranged? currently for endgame

There is nothing in this game that is not viable at endgame levels, regardless of what terrible PUGS claim. There are classes that are better than others in terms of group composition because a bad PUG group wants the easier way out, but everything is viable. Get a good FC group and you can play anything you want. If you limit yourself to everything BUT FC groups, be prepared to play the FOTM class.

The class that I honestly feel that is hurting the most are warriors, but clearing content on them is still possible.

Thanks and yes I do have an FC group to run stuff with I am just torn on which to play atm Ranged or keep going with Melee.

That's exactly why I am asking because I know little of coil seeming as my highest character is 30...

you play whatever you like to play. don't let the so-called "community" dictate how you play a game you pay to play. most of this community just tries to say one job is better than another, instead of figuring out the synergy of working together a whole to accomplish one goal...GLORY!

I hear mmos go through constant balance changes with today's king being tomorrows poor. Chasing the FOTM only leads to sadness.

Personally I would avoid melee classes for now. Bards are op right now but that could change any day. However the reasons why melee classes struggle are far more profound and because of that much less likely to be fixed quickly if ever. The games net code is such that hitting a moving target is very hard as melee and encounters are designed in such a way that favors ranged classes. Both of those things are not easy to fix and seeing as the net code has been the same since forever you probably shouldn't hold your breath waiting for a change.

Good choice! If they fixed jumps I would play mine past 34 also. The fact jumps lock you made me stop after getting BfB.

As a MNK main that is in coils, melee DPS are viable. I consistently top the damage charts on most fights except for turn 4 where I tend to be just behind our top geared bard. So if you want sheer damage, MNK is good although their utility is very low if you're trying to maximize damage. Dragoon damage is slightly lower, but you at least bring the utility of buffing BRD damage. BRD, BLM, and SMN are all very strong in coils and have the added benefit of being at range (which makes the game violently easier). As others have stated as well though, BRDs also have songs which makes their group utility rediculously strong in addition to their extremely high damage.

TL;DR - Melee works, but you're punished for being melee with extra damage and more attacks to avoid and watch out for. Just go BRD if you want to dish out large damage while still having great group utility.

Imo groups need a balance of melee and range so do what ever you want <3
