So I'm currently using the full syldra set on one of my subs, hoping that the stats would give me a better chance for the otter. It's disheartening when the sub with these parts (SySySySy) returns like this
https://i.imgur.com/oXvDPul.png
Tbh, I'm not aiming for quicker duration of voyage inasmuch as a higher chance for the otter. Any suggestions? I've tried the CCSyC for weeks, and nothing.
An all-Syldra sub only has a surveillance of 130. That is mostly likely not high enough to put the Otter on your loot table. CCSyC looks like a good build that SHOULD work for the Otter, based on what we think we know, but there are no guarantees. You should check the weather from your trips; so far it seems like the Otter only drops in clear, calm weather.

Thanks for all input about the full Syldra set. So in that case, what are these parts best used for? Seems like what would be the "end-game" submarine parts aren't even considered highly efficient.:confused:
135 Surveillance works for Kamacite but I think you'd be safer at 145 for the Otter. There haven't been any reports of ships with 135 surveillance getting Otters.
As for what's the "point" of the Syldra parts -- the idea is to be able to mix and match to get the kind of ship you want to run. If you look at each of the stats for the various parts you'll notice they all have tradeoffs, where an increase in one stat is paired with a decrease in another. Each of the Syldra parts is best in its class *for what that part does best* but it might have equally high downsides to balance that out. So you're going to want to mix and match parts depending on whether you want a really fast sub or a sub that can hit a lot of sectors in one trip or a sub that gets large stacks of loot that's stackable (crafting mats) or a sub with a really good shot at getting rare items.
Thanks for the tip. I've been playing around with the ship builders and I see combinations that possibly give negative values for some stats like Range or Speed. What happens if you make a sub with those stats?
They default to a value of 1. It's clamped so you can't go to zero or below.
If you replace the Syldra Hull with a Coelacanth Hull, you'll have maxed out Hauling-type CSySySy boat. Those are very fuel efficient.
Nope! Lol.
Ok that's good to know. Can a sub with a range of 1 even go on an expedition? lol

Side Note: Ship was fully repaired before setting sail. The weather effect was Clear and Calm. Its sister ship (CCSyC-style ship called The Purifier) had Volcanic Activity as a weather type. The majority of ships that are sent out at the same time share weather types. However, this is the first deviation I've seen.
Moreover, both ships had successful double anomalies regardless of the rarity level of the item. I may be jumping the gun on this conclusion, but it seems more likely now that the Favor stat might actually affect the chance of spotting a second anomaly and the Ship Repair Condition affects the success rate of successfully exploring it.
Sorry, I should have clarified. 100+ Favor seems to be the stat breakpoint where double anomalies spawn while the repair condition of the ship affects whether the second anomaly can be successfully explored.
Also, heck yeah! I'm excited to see that the CCSyC is performing up to my expectations.
I suspect the Favor breakpoint is different for different star-levels of sectors. I was getting double-hits on 3-star sectors last year with only 90 favor, but it was clearly not enough Favor for the 4-star and 5-star sectors. I was thinking that the "ship condition not sufficient to explore anomaly" line was what you got when your Favor was ALMOST good enough to get a roll there, but not quite.
Here's a snip of my data from last year on a sub with an SUSU build (Surv 80, Ret 75, Speed 85, Range 90, Favor 90) I recorded the repair level on the sub when it came in. I didn't notice any patterns at the time but take a look for yourself:

If my purpose is to get crafting and gathering materia VIs, what submarine part combination shall I aim for? Is it the same as to get Otter?
Hey guys, hoping to get a little advice as I’m still relatively new to running subs.
My ultimate goal right now is eventually getting Deep-Sea Site 7 unlocked and going after Abroader Otters for myself and the rest of my FC. Peeking through some of the last few pages of the thread, I’ve got some ideas on what sub parts I’m going to need once I’m ready to start sending the subs to Deep-Sea Site 7.
For reference, our first sub is currently Rank 27 and kitted out in full Unkiu, while our second sub is at about Rank 10 (not at home rn so can’t check) and in full Shark. At the moment I’m not too worried about sub builds insomuch as I am about unlocking sectors and ranking up our sub fleet. We have all sectors through Cobalt Shoals unlocked, save for Offender’s Rot, which finally leads me to my question: is exploring and unlocking sectors purely RNG dependent, or is there a threshold stat I need to be meeting? If so, which stat? After I got Cobalt Shoals unlocked early last week, I haven’t had any luck unlocking a new sector!
usually higher surveillance will get you new sector unlocks but ultimately it is rng.
We don't know too much about farming those materia yet but judging from past experience with the airships, yes, you'll want to set up the same as for Otter because those will be rare drops. So go for a high surveillance and favor for best results. You won't need to worry about retrieval as all that seems to do is increase the size of the stack of items you get, and rare drops don't stack -- in general you just get one of those at a time no matter how high or low your retrieval is, so you're not going to get a stack of 10 Abroader Otters no matter what. Take enough range to get to your desired sector(s) and consider speed to be your second dump stat after retrieval.
Can I ask why you want to farm those with your subs instead of just doing red and yellow scrips though?
For unlocking sectors, emphasize surveillance and speed so you can hit the unlocking sectors as often as possible. Since it is ultimately RNG-based, you want as many rolls as you can get in the least amount of time, so you might want to build a "Scout sub" specialized for sector finding. Favor might help but we have no solid evidence on that either way. Couldn't hurt though. Send your scout sub straight to each unlocking sector and straight home again as fast as possible; get your turnaround time down to once per day or less.
I've just gotten "Kamacite Ore" from Flickering Dip with only 120 Surveillance. I believe the consensus before was you needed 135 minimum? This may change things.

CSySySy is build, finally got us an otter! ship was fully repaired before sending
I do not have that much time to do scrips cause can only play the game a few hours a week at the moment. However, if I can use the submersibles to collect some VIs for 5.0 then it will be great. As for the build, I used the calculator from this forum and get this one, will this be sth I can experiment? #409 Coelacanth-Class Pressure Hull Unkiu-class Stern Unkiu-class Bow Syldra-class Bridge 49 (Component) 170 (Surveillance) 30 (Retrieval) 70 (Speed) 95 (Range) 120 (Favor)
I have been testing out for the last 2 weeks and right now I am of the opinion that C,C,Sly,C an ideal build for otter Farming.
With the 80 speed a mission to and from sector 7 is just over 1 day 6 hrs, and the 140 luck is giving 2 loot rolls every mission. My other two subs have been using a
C, Sly, C, Sly for a Higher exploration of 180 but the lower Favor of 90 rarely results in a second loot roll, and mission time is extended to 1 day 21 hours.
Aside from the RNG gate that is weather, the double roll and short mission time seems to put the C,C,Sly,C build as almost ideal.
Does this match up with other peoples general ideas on how these subs act?
I wanted to ask if a C,U,U,C build has been tested for Otter farming? I have sent these build ones to sector 7 and I can say that 110 favor will do for 2 trys but I'm not sure if 30 retrieval is sufficient.
Someone just advised me the following: "So go for a high surveillance and favor for best results. You won't need to worry about retrieval as all that seems to do is increase the size of the stack of items you get, and rare drops don't stack -- in general you just get one of those at a time no matter how high or low your retrieval is, so you're not going to get a stack of 10 Abroader Otters no matter what. So if you aim at rare items, retrieval might not be helpful. And I am tempted to di C U U S build. But I see your CUUC build's point as well. Using the C instead of S for the bridge can give 110 speed instead of 70 speed from CUUS. And the loss in favor is only 10, 110 for CUUC compared with CUUS' 120.
You may as well try C, U, U, U build then for the hunter boat. It would have a far higher Surveillance at 140, Faster at a speed of 100. I would expect it to be just at 24 hours a mission.Quote:

Quantity over Quality considering the Abroder Otter is 1 per trip to best that any one can prove.
Keep in mind that one of the reasons that the CCSyC set is edging out over the rest at the moment is due to the high favor rating that's allowing that second anomaly to spawn, followed by its fairly high Speed. We had an interesting report of the CSySySy hull recently that managed to snag an Otter off of a second anomaly:
Being able to spawn that second anomaly effectively doubles the efficiency of any sub that travels to a specific destination. Considering how fast Kamacite Ore is dropping in value, it's definitely worth spending the money for a single Syldra Bow at this point.
The CUUC would be a perfectly reasonable ship to use if you want to farm Deep-Sea Site 7 (W) exclusively. With 110 Favor for double anomalies and a blistering 110 Speed, It'll definitely put that 170 Surveillance to good use during its 1 day, 1 hour, and 36 minute voyage. Considering how cheap the ship costs to produce, a single drop will more than pay for itself.

If you're looking to farm three potentially profitable zones in a 2 day trip, another setup to consider would be the UUUC submarine. Meeting the 145 Surveillance requirement and sitting exactly on the 100 Favor stat, it should (in theory) still spawn double anomalies while farming the following route:
Neolith Island (I) > The Cobalt Shoals (K) > Deep-Sea Site 7 (W)
https://i.imgur.com/ZCERlfJ.png
A similar result can be made with a full Coelacanth CCCC build, but the differences would be negligible. The voyage would take 1 day, 19 hours, and 13 minutes, putting it in the 2 day checkup window.
The viability of these last two ships hinges on whether 100 Favor spawns two anomalies or not.
Just to clarify further, I am the owner of the spreadsheet Loot Table :)
