for 300 USD... hmmm i can recommend better artist... lol

I dont need an art degree to appreciate good looking pictures xD
And you havent seen his end results yet before critizing his price and art.
ReiQ would charge me 1000USD and his art isnt better imo compared to Bobbydando. I also like a lot of different looks ;)
I just didnt like your condesending tone is all. Feel free to show me works of arts you like yourself. One of my favorite artists is Faustsketcher ;)
Base his stuff from? You talking some +18 rated pics? XDDD
And Faustsketcher is already busy with other commissions of mine ;). And I just felt Bobbydandos style would look the most impressive for this type of scenario. I went through a long list before I decided who to pick. Faustsketcher is amazing. But for this I wanted someone who did details really well and to make it look pretty real.
And no worries. It just felt like you insulted my choice of art and looking down on an artist I like using and talk to. I have used him a few times since January this year and will continue to do so ^^
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;)
I'm going to chime in as a fellow artist. Obviously not as good as the others. But something does feel off in the drawing. It's something that has been bugging me since the first sketch. It's either the arm, perspective or the kneeling+twisting pose that sets something off with the entire pose. I always get the impression that his arm is too long. But otherwise it looks awesome and love the eye for detail. I honestly would leave the eyes out. It's a statue after all. And some wrinkles couldn't hurt.
And hush, we don't talk about a certain large collection of other drawings on this board lol. Even though they're awesome.
As for what's off on the sketch itself, its the front leg. His body proportions are mostly right, its just the angle and width of the front leg that seems to throw the rest of it off. its a minor fix though. Here's where the error is:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psc4a567a8.png
The rest is well done though. As for measuring with heads for proportions, its a good base start, but fantasy art seldom follows. It's what gives it its characteristics. You see women with incredibly long thin legs to exaggerate curves etc Just as long as you don't go overboard, its okay to bend proportions just a little bit ^^
I hope Yoshida will see your drawing (well I hope he will see all of ours at one point). Great job and hope to see the colored version soon!
Jeeez, now its kinda putting a damper on my enthusiasm for having this done. I dont mind paying for it as long as I get the look I like. Kinda wish I waited with posting this on this forum until it was finished, or even not at all and just emailed it straight to SE.
I never expect artists to work for free. I know I sure would not do so myself. And I dont know how your art looks like. I might like it, or may think it doesnt fit the content and feel of the picture.
When I hold my arms down my body, my hands are about the same place as in this picture. And in most pictures I have seen of Louisoix from the side, his legs isnt as thick as you edited.
I wont post any more updates from now on though.
yeah... i don't wanna be negative, but 300 bucks for that art, as good as it is... a tad overpriced compared to the usual commission prices.
Mind you, artists have the full right to charge what they want for their work, but...
touchy touchy.
No reason to get your enthusiasm dampered, but at the same time you shouldn't mention things like paying people. Just a general "I commissioned to get this done" is good enough.
Updates aren't a bad thing, it shows progress. And yeah, art styles vary. It may be that mine doesn't fit your style, but when it comes to art, personally, the only people I will charge are businesses or if people are going to use something for promotional/monetary profit.
In the art world, comments and feedback from updates are seen as welcome. It can help you see things you otherwise wouldn't see, such as a typo on an essay or a sentence may sound better. It's not like we're all trying to gang up on you and say "OMG YOU SUCK LOL!!!!" That's just the way we roll. Its being helpful in our eyes. ^^
I forgot that the 300 was not just for that pic alone, but another as well I cant link on this site. So its about 150 each in Extra quality. Normal quality is around 100pr picture.
And I would not accept to receive a picture made by you for free. Its just how "I" roll XD When I feel something is worth paying for, I will :)
Well, Bobbydando works for money as part of his income. He works part-time in a store and wishes to make his living purely from drawing. I accept that and found him my perfect choice to make this picture a reality :3
Anyway, I have emailed Bobby about the criticism/feedback, and will see how it turns out.
That's kind of harsh. Money or not, it's a good drawing. Not everyone is going to draw exactly the same way with exact same proportions. If he wants to stylize some things that's fine. I pointed out the only real error that popped out to me, which was the leg.
If you're going to give criticism, you don't need to be an ass about it.
He did mention he would tweak the leg a little. And he likes to work on my commissions. 1 black and white comic I had him do, said made him learn way better Lineart skills. :)
I wish I could find the picture he sent me that he said it was the one he was the most pleased with. It was simply insane. TONS of character and amazing attention to details.
Unless you have seen his finished works, I think you will be nicely impressed ;3
Holy crap, today I learned that a bunch of people in this thread take art seriously! Well as a layman/normal person that has no artistic skills what-so-ever (no matter how hard I try, it just doesn't work out! ;.; ), I like the base drawing as it is, I didn't know commissions take that much (I understand it is not done, I have a base tattoo at the moment and ready for 2-3 more sessions, I have already spent almost $550)
@Vilhem LOL Free?! Then all we'll get is Thancred!
@Altera Don't take any of the comments as hurtful, as an outsider reading them, it really sounds like they just want to give their inputs, even if it is criticism, other than that, you should be proud and don't let any comments bother you about how much you spend for what you want (unless you are rich and don't have a sense for spending money lol, $1000 for a piece of gum? Sure!), it is for yourself after all and I appreciate the fact that you decided to share it with everyone, so don't say you regret posting an early image of it ;). Your artist did say he was going to re-work the leg right? That means as an artist he already knew what others said, also I love the fact you support artists like this! I'll add the art to your name =D
Edit: While I was adding it to your name I looked at the sketch again and compared, because I thought it was going to be of Louisoix by himself, after seeing the sketch I realized that is only part of the whole image! The finished image is going to be bad-ass and awesome.

OH no you didn't!! D:
I don't draw just Than >.> I draw whatever people ask me to. I only started on these forums in November, so I'm a little "green" in the fanart/media part of XIV, though I've been playing since release. Even then, I've only posted maybe 3-4 things that I've actually done (not counting the things like the Gangnam Style MoCap that was really more experimenting lol)
I use my "muses" as inspiration for my art, not money. I want to make people happy with my stuff, while at the same time challenging myself to learn new techniques. I've had few commission requests so far for XIV stuff, so if you want something drawn, lemme know <.<
Yeah, that's why I said its a good drawing :p This was posted in another thread, don't remember which. It is obvious the artist put in a lot of time to get everything right, so by criticizing the Loui statue I had the overall composition in mind. There's other things that pop out at me, but as I said earlier, everyone has their drawing style and they're part of his, so no need to fix them.
@Vilhem well at least your better than me, I have been playing since start and made 0 contribution to fan-art o.o;;
@Seirra Altera did, but it was not a recent image.
I did post this whole sketched picture in this thread on page 65 ^^ As well in the Louisoix The White thread :)
Statue is located in his spot in Apkallus Falls. So there will also be water effects etc. Altera's outfit is the Twin Adders officers coat ^^ And the plaque at the base of statue will be saying: In memory of our savior: Louisoix the Elder.
Unless there is something else thats short and sums up the thank you to Louisoix, as well as Yoshida and Co :3
Get to work then! >_> /crackwhip
Honestly, though, whenever I do get into something, I always like to draw the characters or make some kind of fanart, but it was kind of different with XI and XIV. These were more hardcore communities that weren't very open to the idea of silly drawings or fanfictions; if you search XI fanart you'll mostly find kitty porn xD
With XIV I was glad to have found a small niche of people on this board that likes fanart and media stuffs. It gave me the inspiration to start my own fanart (yes yes a good portion of it being Than <_<). If I make even one person happy with a piece of art, then it satisfies me. I work off of feedback, whether good or bad, to keep me going.
I will also do colorings of people's line art, tho I have to warn in advance, I am very OCD about coloring digitally so I tend to take awhile :D my most recent commission to color was Yumi Hibiki's arcanist lineart. It's in Cedri's coloring book thread.
Ninja edit: Linky to Yumi Hibiki Arcanist colored by me o_o
I guess I just wanna say thanks for receiving my silly fanarts (and memes in the Meme thread) and thank you for letting me draw for you guys ._.
A small lineart update. Altera and the base for the statue is finished this time :3

It looks like three have made it in your master listing that I spotted below but the rest should be new to the list!
1)This video is a masterpiece, the editing is insane, hallucinatory effects, the perfect music ... Make yourself comfortably in your seat, fasten your seatbelt and turn off your cell phone!

Lineart of everything, except the closeup of Altera praying is now complete ^^ I don't know about you all, but I can really see this looks really identical to Apkallus Falls :D

A picture a good friend drew of my character when I realised that the Maelstrom Soldier's coat + glasses makes me look a bit like Vash.

And some videos I took at the end of times. I decided that instead of trying to capture it with screenshots, I'd take ~30 second videos of some of my favourite areas. They're all up on my xfire, so I'll only post a few :D.

The scene in the 2nd one where everyone's together celebrating is my favorite scene in the whole game, tied with the other scene with the GC leaders coming together and creating the alliance. The music was a good choice, but you didn't get the one with lyrics. It fits the whole atmosphere.
