You are 100% correct. The system is so broken for what they have they need a complete rebuild from the ground up. That asks the question, why do they keep pouring resources into the old system? Until they can either get a new system or stabilize the old system resources should not be put into housing. They are literally wasting time. Unless the one thing they have never admitted to is this is the best we will ever get and they don't care if all players are included.

BRD still got balance changes during HW right? just because they completely scrapped Bowmage later on doesn't mean the players don't have to live with what they put out for those 2 years. these updates help with player retention.

this might be the best we will ever get, that doesn't mean they don't care. that just means they can't do anything about it. they can care all they want but when the budget gets denied, they can't exactly throw their bosses under the bus.

and i'm pretty sure any kind of fundamental overhaul went out the window when we
1) got apartments
2) got Shirogane (another housing zone)

I agree that they have saddled us with this forever since they spent more cash on a system they can't sustain. It really isn't broken I guess, they just don't supply enough resources to what they developed/dreamed.

See you give them credit that accounting/management might be to blame with this system. Where others might see it as an ego driven mistake to not stay with an older system, instances. Most of this game is built around instances. If you can't get new features to work I am of the opinion to use older more reliable means. I also consider something not working when all players can't access a feature. The gate should have been Savage raid clear then we wouldn't have this discussion since amount of houses would match up with the gate.

sure if they ever actually existed but that doesn't apply here. there is no older version that exists, it has to be a new thing created with new resources.

all FFXIV instances go away and all FFXIV instances have limits, that's why everybody got stuck on Raubahn/Pipin during SB early access.

there also are currently no FFXIV instances that remember things except for housing interiors, and we know they are also limited.

They could have kept the old wards and simply introduced a completely instanced housing zone with SB, yet we will again get a normal ward for Kugane. We got apartments where they promised that they will increase the numbers if they are full, which still did not happen. So either they are having really bad solutions to this problem (and there are lots of good solutions from the community) or they dont care at all. Or they want to change it but somehow their system cant handle that which would make me fear for the future of the game. (And the system they have right now is really not that great since its constantly running too..)

Approximately four years will soon trickle by and they have done precisely nothing to remedy an awful system the vast majority of players will never have access to. Let's look at Balmung, the largest server by population in the game. Currently, 2,160 houses exist and 720 will be added in a few weeks... on a server that nearly 30,000 characters occupy. Even if you assumed every single person on Balmung actively plays three alts each, they still can't accommodate half that population. Exactly. Its not like this system was introduced in 3.0 and thus not enough time has passed to change it. This has been going on for such a long time and has even started out with lies too. (FC and private houses being different as an example) Apartments should have been some kind of small solution but they also never fulfilled their promise that more would open if they are full and on top of that they are really not that big.

And even though they promised in the past that a house timer would never be implemented, they choose to punish players that want to take a break and own a house instead of changing their system..in the end this is just another band-aid that will fix nothing since even if some houses are going back to the market thanks to the timer, it will still be never enough for the huge amount of people that are playing. (And normally a MMO wants to grow so this problem will only get bigger in the future with more people playing the game) On top of that they restrict us in such a way but still dont implement a way to stop people owning multiple houses to sell them.

Instead of doing something fresh for SB they also decided to keep hanging on their old system..they had more than enough time to change something but they did not do it..yet somehow time and money is put into creating more and more seasonal housing items that probably the majority of people cant ever use..

And like I said: They dont even have to change the old wards..they could still leave them be that way, but at the same time they could have introduced Shirogane as something completely new..but they did not do that.

I did some math using FFXIV Census. If we assume their estimations are accurate, the current housing breaks down as follows:

North America: 24%
Japan: 29%
Europe: 23%

That is the amount of housing available per region. Therefore, 71% at the lowest will not have access to housing. And no, I do not feel Apartments are a fair solutions. Players shouldn't be forced to accept one room because our housing system is abysmal. If free-to-play MMOs can sort this out, Square Enix and/or Yoshida's team have no excuses.
