<<NO ONE HAS SAID STEALING IS OK>>
This is part of the victim narrative that people who defend Powerman 5000 attempt to use. They attempt to call it theft in a misguided effort to try and validate their point, and is a major point of what creates so much tension between the two sides.
Only phase 1 uses the FFVI track, it's the phase 2 that's the major focus point of contraversy.
People are free to voice their opinions as they see fit, it is up to the mods to close a thread when the topic becomes irrelevant and/or derailed Mimi. If you see someone flaming someone else or any other rule breaking, just use the report function. This thread is based on the similarity of the two songs, not necessarily the actions between SE and Powerman 5000. Although most of the discussion has been about the two and future comments will be based upon what has already been discussed. So I'm not against the thread being closed mind you. It may even die out.
I think a large amount of the backlash re: pm5k is the neediness of that band, tbh.
Their claims to fame have been really dubious - they're generally considered a one-hit wonder in the alternative music scene, whether you're into industrial or not. They have been considered a rip-off of KMFDM (German) NIN (American) and Pierott (Japanese) at varying points in their career and they're still riding a song they released 17 years ago to reaaaaaaaaaaaaally small venues... which is pretty shameful, imo. Nothing's worse than a band that rides old stuff to the ground because they haven't the creativity to come out with something new but like money too much to disband.
Even back in the day their whole claim to fame was "hey, our singer's Rob Zombie's brother, pay attention to us!" over anything else... and personally, I find it laughable that on the same facebook page the allegation is made on, PM5K butchered Space Oddity by David Bowie, and posted side-by-side pictures of how much the singer looks like some random guy from Naruto. Really laughable.
Actually even in this thread I've seen some people who say Powerman should be grateful SE are making them relevant again, which is essentially saying, people should be ok with theft because they are relevant again.
Again, I do not care what happens in this situation, i do not care for the band (singer?) either. But to say some people in this thread aren't saying stealing is ok in this case is a flat out lie.
I may have turned deaf, but the only similiarity, that is not because of the genre, I find in the two pieces is the singer's voice when they're singing low, combined with the fact that both songs start with "What is it". After the first 15 seconds or so, any similiarity disappears, until you again come to a part with low singing that starts with "What is it" that again lasts about 15 seconds.
1.imo the only problem similarity wise is the vocals in both. Sound very similar though the FF song is a tad deeper. 2. you play both songs at the same time correctly, you get something amazing :)
