No, it is drawing out the implications of SE’s position. I’m not too interested in playing blame games with regards to the game’s fans as there was a lot of negativity on both sides and I don’t support turning this into a civil war between the playerbase and never have, but equally I see little point in pretending SE did not mismanage this and badly, especially by being very secretive in their communications. Yoshi P went a long way to rectifying the situation for me. Expecting people to read tea leaves based on obscure interviews and very contentious leaks SE themselves decried, whilst knowing that they had reversed historic gender locks, is not clear communication.

In any event, I suggest we move on from all this and focus on supporting the addition of the missing genders, as frankly discussing the actions of people I called out at the time grows rather dull.

The Twitch spam is pretty awkward and embarrassing to behold. Luckily it has been countered with bans. I think it's fine for people to politely request them, though petulant requests should be laughed off and ignored. You're absolutely right that it'd be something else being spammed though!

As for people choosing to not renew their subscription, I don't think the number is going to be very large. Some of them will inevitably be lured back by the expansion. The game servers are practically bursting with players at the moment. So I don't doubt that some people have quit over it but I'm not convinced the number is of particular note.

It'll inevitably be balanced out by the money made by players who purchase optional items/merchandise on a frequent basis and new players who are tempted to try out the game moving forward.

Pretty much, if you check over on the black chocobo thread, game time cards and even the shadowbringers pre-order has apparently been "sold out" frequently. On top of that EU has to have 2 new servers, and NA aether and primal are pretty much locked all the time for new character creation, and there are frequent server queues. The game will be fine, more than fine. This expansion is looking to be extremely popular, gender locks or not.

Well that’s unfortunate but at the same time this grows frustrating because you’re mixing in people arguing in bad faith with those of us who are not. I am quite frank in that the option I want to see is male Viera but that even though I wouldn’t play them I’d like to see female Hrothgar because I liked Ronso and also because it wouldn’t be fair to add one but not the other. However, let’s be realistic: my support means a lot less to SE than someone who will actually play the race. Thus i leave it to those who will, whilst supporting their addition.

I suggest if you find someone people here vexatious that you utilise the ignore function. It’s not worth getting upset over or withdrawing yourself from the discussion due to the actions of some few. I don’t bother engaging people who I find make the same silly arguments repeatedly and can’t argue in good faith.

I'm just glad that Yoshi-P put his foot down and stated outright that child-like viera would not be a thing. I'm in agreement that some of the proposed designs are pretty creepy, though I don't think the development team will go with such an approach no matter how much certain posters try to push the 'androgynous/feminine' aesthetic towards the same result.

I still think it'd be for the best to remove the child-like images from the original post, but that apparently isn't going to happen so there's not much to be done about it unfortunately.

I honestly do not know of many people who think Lalafell look like children. Though I get where you are coming from. Though I do think if the image in the OP does more harm then good, not many will look at the context regarding the image they will simply go based off the image and see it closer resembles a child much more so then Lalafell.

Might it is time to remove the image SE already confirmed they will not be adding them so not 100% certain what the intent behind leaving that image up is. I get it was a image released by SE.

I also agree people are overrating, but it seems the image is causing more harm then good regarding the cause at this point because SE said it will not happen maybe it time to just remove the image. Also not trying to get into the art aspect but compare the proportions of a lalafell and a child I do think one would be hard pressed to really say yup that is a child. Not much into art so I cannot explain it properly, but to do a degree I do think it is disingenuous to say well lalafell look like children. Though that is not largely important, given the fact that it is a moot topic at this point since those with creative control of the game seem to agree that lalafell do not look like children.

A surprising amount of japanese people do want male viera and to a lesser extent, female hrothgar. There was even some arguing in the jp thread, but definitely not as heated as the na forums lol Also, there isn't a new thread being made about adding male viera and female hrothgar every day. That's a bit of an exaggeration.

I rather they put all the resources into making the game better. Wasting it all on bunny bois would be bad. Cuz then all the speedo wearing nuhns and tias would become speedo wearing bucks, get bored of it or have a delusion that they aint gettin any girls for their harem, then they go back to being cat bois again, continuing the delusion. The husbando's will be worse on this.

Naw fam. They did it cuz of somewhat popular demand....by the JP audience, specifically for bunny gurls. They just threw the Ronso males in to balance things out. From what I seen. Jp forum is happy with how things stand. They wont waste dev time and resources for the master race vocal minority of the na/eu boards.

Man, I swear every time I step away from this thread it melts down and people start going headlong into fisticuffs - except they've got daggers between their bloody knuckles.

All I know is that when folks get emotional they turn into crap heads on the internet, and people should probably grasp this honestly - not a lot of people give a flying hoot about your feelings through a computer screen, in a forum, when you're butting heads.

It's just not that deep enough to get that emotionally screwed over regarding the topic. Some folks called you 'entitled for wanting a bunny man.' Coolio, time to move on. Have a drink of tea, do your nails, imagine punting whoever said it into the sun or something - just chill out. Some idiot called you a homophobe and a degenerate for wanting Hrothgar? Again, best to get over it. Honestly, if a bunch of people on the internet having an emotional break down because instead of Viera they got 'Hrothgar' - gets you raging then it's time get some tougher skin because there's always going to be cry babies out there who are going to throw out the most ridiculous of bullcrap. It's not great, I'm not validating the behaviour or supporting it. But at this point, it's not worth the drain of it all.

Folks should also note that people can change their mind. I remember in another thread Shogun (I hope I spelt your username right!) and I would battle out because I was so very sure they weren't Ronso, and stated how I thought 'Hrothgar were Khajiit' - and wham, they were Ronso all along - or at least a breed of them. And though I was upset, the fact Shogun was happy was something because it was something he genuinely wanted. I raged a bit, calmed down, ate some chocolate - kicked some lalas and then moved on from it. The Hrothgar started to impress me with the information dump, and my qualms regarding story were also changed because of the setting. If we were still in our world and were fighting the Empire than damn right I would still be peeved off and calling out this 'bad storytelling' - at least with it being the first it actually makes sense for the males to not be around. They're the thin barrier between the Sin Eaters and their families. I'm looking forward to hearing more about them.

If folks are looking for genuine apologies on both sides then they're better off trying to get into the Queen's knickers. Anything that's going to be said is going to simply be done to have the other side to frankly 'shut up' and get them out of their face. Let's face it, the amount of arguments that's going on is just so very tiring. And yes, it may seem bad but it's time to wake up and smell the expensive starbucks coffee. If you can't be happy for people who got what they wanted, then yeah - there's a problem. If you can't sit down and accept the fact there are people out there, normal freaking people who just wanted a male bunny or a female buff lion then yet again there's a problem. On another note;
Senn, would it be possible that the front post may be updated to add any new information we hear about male Viera from the expansion? Basically the flavour text we gather, and perhaps differences between versions Japanese/English etc. I know you didn't want to edit it, but I figure adding more information to help with the argument and add the pros and cons would be a good benefit and actually put forward a decent argument for them. Rather than 'I just want them', but more 'Why we should have them' and what they could bring.

It's actually pretty natural for a Viera thread to have 725+ pages.
Support (female) Viera thread had 238 pages without them being confirmed for XIV.

Now that Viera exists in XIV it's not a matter of whether (male) Viera could ever exist in XIV, it's a matter of in what fashion could they exist. The hype doubled because we have female Viera already. Hopefully Community mangers look at the likes and and the fervor and passion for male Viera.

Can't argue with this logic, honestly. The idea of males Viera has been bouncing around longer than this forum has. Tactics - FF12... etc. As soon as the females popped up there were questions about the males. I honestly think a lot of people forget that. This is a very old race...

Yeah, and to add to that, whoever voiced Fran in the English dub is a goddess. She gave her an amazing voice and personality which transcended into the other Viera as well. This calm, womanly, and subtle gentleness with a hint of fierceness is just great. Their subtlety is what makes Viera amazing to me, they're not straight up serious, cute, or clam, for them it's all subtle; very well reflected in their emotes. A lot how Fran was in XII.

Am I miss remember ff12? I thought there was some dialog about male Viera being trees or something like that. I am pretty sure there was not a single male Viera in ff12.

Now we understand the Hrothgar are based off of FF10 Ronso. Which there where females Ronso in that game. Now I do not think Square would want to be. "well we can not screw over the men. Making 2 new female race and saying." Sorry their no bunny boys in FF. So instead the screwed over the girls and said. "You are getting bunny girls and not lion girls." Honestly I would love to get female Hrothgar more then male Viera. Though it not the end of the world and I figure a future patch/expansion will give us the other half.

Male Viera are not mentioned in XII as far as I know, and there is nothing about them looking like trees in any of the games. The earliest mention of male Viera I'm aware of is from Ultimania (which said that they live separately from females and compete for resources or something), though most people go off the lore that's present in this game from the Dramaturge who states that they're forest guardians who protect the woods from outsiders. They aren't like Asari but more like female Salarians maybe? Rarer and left in their homeland.

FFXIV lore doesn't say they are rare, though (at least info that we have for now). Only that outsiders didn't see them until nowadays (Protectors from the shadows in EN version, wanderers in JP version). So who knows, their population could be actually higher than population of male Miqo'tes, who are considered to be very low-populated. They just live separately, most likely contacting solely for mating and probably trading.

I'm afraid I don't know. :/ I'm pretty sure people checked for differences between the languages but it was quite a while ago, and possibly on another thread. If anyone could take a look again that would be appreciated.

All in all, not only are adult male viera as rare or rarer than male moon keepers, they only live in the jungle of a continent far away from Eorzea and go through a trial that kills a fair few of the remaining ones off. They are said to not even exist to the people who live in the closest city to the jungle, and this is a city where viera make up 5% of the population. Male moon keepers may be rare wanderers, but they don't go through trials that kill a lot of them (that we know of), and they adventure around on the continent where our adventures take place so we're likely to bump into a couple. There is no real point in comparing the two. Male viera are not seen at all by outsiders and never have been. They don't communicate with foreigners, let alone each other and spend their whole life alone. The only inter-personal contact they have is when they return to their village every 3-5 years to mate and potentially grab a couple of jacks to train.

All this being said, there's almost no room in the lore as it stands now for male viera. We're going to visit a viis village in ShadowBringers so we're likely to learn more about the race as a whole, but viis aren't viera so it's not going to be a one-to-one thing and Yoshi already said that we will not see the missing genders as NPCs, but we may learn more about them.

Well, I highly doubt that we will ever see male Vieras among NPC anyway, even if they will be playable. Same goes to female Hroths. Pretty much because of their lore. And it's totally fine, because lore explains how the world works.

Should not forget that lore works differently when we speak about WoL (or, pasically, players), though, because, it was stated so many times here and there, we will need to delete about 80% of playable content if search for a "room in the lore" including some races and at least half of jobs.

Anyway, does Dramaturge says his lines about Vieras after raid scenario is completed? I want to check Japanese version today if he does.

If that's the case, as a creator he must have already come up with scenarios or situations where this usual 'rule' of their life would change. I'm still firmly of the stance that lore doesn't have much bearing on a playability. It's been absolutely discussed to death here though (Rathalos and the regalia being in this game, there's only one non-padjal white mage, the devs are the ones writing the lore etc etc). Regardless Yoshi P have been presenting it more as a resource problem with lore to complement the limitation, rather than lore being responsible for the ultimate decision here.

There was for Miqo'te yes. The section said: "Miqo'te are known to be quite territorial, and many individuals tend to lead solitary lifestyles, particularly the males. The few Miqo'te who have made the transition to life in Eorzean society are predominantly female." The Roe blurb did not mention female Roes, though I'm not sure if other material gave a reason. I'm not sure about Highlander either.

The lore is technically capable of being changed. My concern is that in changing things there might not be much left of what makes them so mysterious and appealing. So it needs to be done well and the justification for them leaving their forest needs to be satisfying and not lazy/overly contrived.

I vaguely recall a culture (tribe?) somewhere in the Amazon where young men of age must go through a ceremony involving putting their hands into a glove full of bullet ants twenty times for ten minutes (while also doing a dance). Dunno if any die from the shock of the pain (or allergies), but it's something to think about.

I am sure when we go to Golmore, possibly in 6.0, we’ll get a glimpse. Same with female Hrothgar. This expansion is focused on another world and they probably feel it’s too soon to reveal so much as an NPC.

Very much so - we still have our own realm which is about to get wrecked with chemical warfare... it was a very inopportune time for us to be called away. Even with the Ascians removed after 5.0 - the Empire is still at large.

It doesn’t seem like they’ll be removed, as the Zodiark/Hydaelyn arc wont end by the conclusion of 5.0, but I imagine they will withdraw their control over it and move on to other objectives, especially if it’s already doing what they need it to anyway... possibly led by Zenos.

I dunno if we'll be going to Golmore any time soon, mainly due to lore reasons (also do we really need to have a second Viera tribe to visit? It's bad enough for me that we're going to one). The lore between the Viera on the Source and the Vii on the First is most likely completely different, as I'm sure the Vii are more open to getting help and helping others due to the Sin Eater threat, whereas Viera aren't in any immediate danger (especially as their jungle is probably the safest place from the war taking place on Eorzea) and will probably continue to kill anyone who enters their jungle.

Basically; what we've seen in Orbonne Monastery is all we're gonna see of Golmore. Kinda like with Xelphatol.

Edit: it felt weird not tossing shade on Viera in awhile. Didn't feel like myself.

Yoshi had stated that Shadowbringers is the end of 80% the ascian storyline and there was a slide during Vegas fan fest that said we’re stopping the Garleans too. I don’t anticipate the entire plot taking place on the First. I can see us going back to finish the fight. If not with an army, we could just defeat the Emperor on his own and the rival political faction could take care of the rest.

That may be a good thing if it ends up that way because it could mean we would be able to visit Garlemald in a future expansion as a city and not a dungeon (looking at you, Ala Mhigo)

Been a while since I posted but here's my image of Male Viera.
Firstly the height is about 155.5cm minimum with a height range of 12cm like their female counterparts.

I made a character with the said minimum height and it kind of looks like this.☟☟ I imagine them as archers, lancers or assassins/ninjas lorewise.

As with the aesthetics, I'd like them to be more masculine than what I made with this, and preferrably more manly looking than a Miqo male.
The muscle mass is about the same as the Muay Thai champion Rambaa Somdet(157cm tall) which I think is as good as it can get.

If the males are shorter than the females, I don't think there would be any drastic height differences like au ra though. I do like the idea of having male viera with a muay thai champion body type.

I do not think lore would pose many problems with the implementation of male viera because the warrior of light is an exception - doesn't follow the norms. I don't think we would see a lot of male viera npc, if any.

I'm not personally against it. If the height difference was like in the picture you posted, I wouldn't be bothered, and I would totally be cool with more flexible height sliders. The only thing I wouldn't like is if the males were extremely taller than the females.

This was actually used with Female Roegadyn as SE probably thought not having a shorter option would lessen the FemRoe playerbase.
They actually have a 28cm slider compared to what I've posted which was 12cm, to match the female's.

Edit:
This is the size difference between Au Ra Males and Females. Note that Miqote male's shortest height are taller than Au Ra female's tallest height.
It's different enough to be noticeable for Viera(in my interpretation), but Au Ra's is like a big smack in the face. Females don't even reach the Male's shoulders!
