PlayStation 3 version: Why Bother?

FFXIV: ARR actually has a lot less demand in terms of PC system requirements. My laptop, which probably barely met the minimum requirements for 1.x, now meets most of the requirements for recommended in ARR~

That's true, but if you can't log into psn, you can't login to 99.9% of online games on PS3.

if u cant sign in to psn then how are u playin online period lol

Depends on the game, but some you can use XlinkKai if psn is down i believe. atleast you use to be able to.

The game is on Square Enix servers, not PSN, you need a Square Enix account to log into the game, not your PSN account. If FFXIV ARR is on maintenance nobody can log in regardless if PSN is offline or not.

I can still browse the internet on my PS3 while PSN is on maintenance, so I doubt it will effect gameplay.

Na, you need to log in to PSN to use anything other than LAN services, which is how XLinkKai works. Ofcourse the browser will work. your internet isnt off. its how sony bans people for hacking stuff. because they have to authenticate with the server to do anything online besides browse the net. Other games servers aren't on PSN's servers either, it's a tunnel through psn to the real server. every online game uses it on ps3 that I know of, with the exception of using LAN. LAN won't go through PSN obviously.

I remember using netflix while psn is down for maintenance. It said unable to sign into PSN, but netflix will still run as normal because it also uses my netflix account to log into the service. I'll have to experiment with that again to see if they change it.

Kinda funny because two years ago PSN got hacked and went offline however you still can play Netflix without requiring PSN. Why you are forced to be logged in to play 99.9% of online games because you must update your firmware to the latest version to stop hacking and that's how Sony is considering for...

About SE servers, eh I don't think Sony wanna bother with it but SE would want you to update your PS3 like everyone has to! :D

PSN isn't like Xbox Live though.

Yea, netflix doesn't really require psn, theirs nothing you can do that affects psn. With games, glitches get fixed and loopholes in the ps3 firmware get fixed. The reason being, that people enable debug options like god mod, or auto aim, even make it so your enemies are always visible. So yea.. If you're version doesn't match the psn servers, you usually get screwed into updating.
