O gaaaawwwd xD
I wouldn't call it far behind in general. A lot of MMOs have housing that is worse than this in some ways.
But definitely it is behind what a few MMOs were doing a decade ago.
Well the poster said they'd spend serious money to get more houses. And the price of 4 services accounts really isn't that serious. Some people spend more than $60/month on things they use once then throw away.
I looked at ESO housing, you pay for every house and the cost of some is nutty. I can never stick on that game no matter how many times I try it. I spend more time downloading the thing than I do playing it.
I enjoy the wards but I would also love them to expand apartments to give you options for larger ones. EU servers still have a butt load of small plots for sale though. If people want them, they are there.
Alternatively do what I did and make an alt if you want a house on another server. Depends how much you want the house really. I literally said you can make an alt and you do not need to 'abandon' anything. Like I am trying to give some potential solution. If you can't be bothered that's fair but at least say so xD
Some players think paying 3 million gil for a house is nutty and 50 million permanently insane. You have to really commit to a game before you start understanding the amounts aren't as bad as they seem at first.
But it's still a better housing system than what we have when it comes to accessibility and features.
You do make a good point - housing alone is generally not going to keep players engaged with a MMO. There's got to be other good content to go along with it.
Good thing with ESO is once you have it and build it you don't have to worry about it being taken away or demolished.
I just logged in after a few years and was able to enjoy my houses again :)
The joys of instanced housing!
Housing in XIV being limited and requiring you to stay subbed is what keeps it active and enjoyed by the people who have it. Housing might as well not exist in ESO, almost nobody bothers with it outside of a tiny RP subset of the population.
Mao still tryings to figure outs how housing is elitist when is doable by anyones with a few Gils and some spare times to enter the Lottery.
