Also people seem to forget that FFXIV is still first and foremost a game that adheres to its tradition's roots while sprinkling new and modern themes told in current rpg stories. Its not ever supposed to be a dark high fantasy like people assume it to be for some odd reason.

We can criticize some of the execution in parts of this game's story, but if that comes at the expense of rewriting the plot to be less FF and more something akin to modern Western rpgs then you're missing the entire point of this game.

Then we shall simply have to agree to disagree then and accept that we are unlikely to ever view this issue from the same lens. No other Final Fantasy game exhausted my patience the way that Endwalker did, and the sort of writing style it sported was highly inappropriate for what was to be the finale of a 10 year arc.

Neither of us will ever concede on these points so if you have nothing else to add, I suggest you move on, along with the poster who insists on trying to paint themselves as some kind of victim while trying to downplay the concerns that I and others in this thread have expressed. I am not alone in my way of thinking, no matter how much some individuals wish it otherwise.

We already went through 10 years of the Scions, I don't think it's in the game's best interest or that it will appeal to the core Final Fantasy playerbase to have us go through 10 more years of them + Krile.

Many people do share my opinion, as I have stated before. How many times do some of you have to be told that no matter how much you try to focus on semantics I refuse to change the way I speak to suit your whims?

A lot of people aren't interested in having Krile or the Scions come with us in 7.0. It doesn't matter how I say it, it doesn't make it any less true. If the game intends to apply selective pressure to effectively push away those of us who favor more dramatic high fantasy stories in favor of goofy slice of life adventures with the Scions, then I only hope that intention is made clear as soon as possible so as to not string along those of us who yearn for a return to form.

FFXIV, given its intention to stand alongside other single player titles should reflect on what made the casts of other such titles successful, and why those titles didn't have the same sort of complaints that people have for the Scions. Rather than listening to people who simply "yes I like this" to everything they put out, it is important to try to understand why some people dislike the Scions and the problems that we've elaborated at length about when it comes to their presentation in the MSQ.

Such critiques are often censured on the main Reddit or are met with fierce and unpoliced responses on sites like Twitter, making both sites unsuitable for alternate viewpoints to be heard. Try as some might, they have no power to silence me. I want, and have always wanted, for FFXIV to be the best it can be. The trajectory of the game in the past 8 months has me, as a long term fan, concerned for its future and I will continue to speak out on it in my own terms.

Anyway, the role quest team are locked into the storyline that requires you to complete all of the role quests and the Warring Triad and the follow-up arc at this point. None of the FFs from 1 to 10 have been as tonally all over the place like XIV is.
IX is extremely consistent with its universe. When things look out of place towards the end, they're SUPPOSED to look out of place, and the characters react accordingly.
VIII is not a high fantasy game. It makes its setting clear from the start: modern times with a mix of fictional advanced technology.
VII starts you off in what is the most advanced and modern city complex in the game's setting. Majority of the rest of the world is consistently using a dieselpunk motif, interrupted by Shin-Ra's influence of futuristic cyberpunk. The contrast is there but it's limited to keep itself believable.
VI takes place in an early Second Industrial Revolution inspired world with steampunk influences. Likely as one of the inspirations for Shin-Ra and later evil empires in the franchise, the Empire in VI latches way harder into the steampunk motif, appropriately standing out in the world as an ominous powerful force.
V is basically high fantasy through and through. When automations and advanced ships are present they're still fundamentally archaic.
IV is literally the same case as IX. Only difference is the historical era it's inspired by.
III and I are pure nearly medieval high fantasy.
I can't speak for II since I know literally nothing about it.

In almost every FF game you always have a tonally consistent world that contrasts high fantasy with a faction or nation with high technology normally out of reach for anyone outside said faction (usually the Cid of the game being the exception of the rule). Regardless you're not going to be wandering around Lindblum and suddenly coming across as a direct reference to a cafe from the year 20XX. You're not going to see Rikku with sparkly anime eyes in a comical scene moments before the final walk through Zanarkand's ruins with Yuna "because the players have the emotional maturity of a little child and totally need these breathers between tense story periods". You're not going to see Edgar Roni Figaro, Terra Branford, Garnet til Alexandros or Ryidia of Mist suddenly having Drip. And if any of those games decide to throw in a character that looks like they came from 2020, the characters always react to it, unlike in XIV where you have stupid pop idols straight out of modern Japan being part of the lore.

Older FF games are a lot more subtle about the real world cultural influences they take inspiration from when designing nations and locales. FFXIV all but literally shouts at you "THIS IS FANTASY INDIA!! AND THIS IS FANTASY FRANCE!!" as if they want to score "wholesome" points for not-subtly telling people they're aware countries outside US and Japan exist.

XIV is not, in the slightest, tonally consistent. It's only not as a sloppy mess of chimerical mutated setting as Fortnite with its no shits given random crossovers with crossovers.

Nope, just the facts according to the lore. Gaius would never join the Scions, theres way too much bad blood between him and virtually everybody. His past is his own to deal with, he has a lot of ghosts to lay to rest.

All but one of his adopted children dead, because of his actions. His encounters with Estinien notwithstanding, his personal duty is with Garlemald and its people.

Boy stop to interpret something in those Quests that are just not there. I know every single quest with Gaius, every single one with all Ascians. After Endwalker I rewatched every single Cutscene of all Quests. You make up a Story that is not true.
