On paper, Chain Stratagem is better than Spear. However, in practice it wouldn't be impossible for Spear to overtake Chain Stratagem, because AST's toolkit allows for it. Extending the duration of an AoE Spear via Celestial Oppostion, grants them not only double the duration of Chain Stratagem but because Spear also affects Healing crits, unlike Chain, we have to consider that those crit heals will allow for more DPS up time on Healers to contribute as they have to heal less. Another thing to consider is that unlike Chain, AST's cards are on a much more generous CD and can realistically be set up for an AoE Spear within a minute, even when accounting for human reaction times/mechanics/etc. The AST is given a large window of a minute 45 seconds to get a 2nd AoE Spear up which will now more than Triple the up time of Spear over Chain. This is also not even considering Sleeve Draw at all, which further improve their chance of getting an AoE Spear set up.

I don't have the numbers personally but if all it takes is 2 AoE Spears to get more than Triple the up time of Chain Stratagem, I'm going to feel that Spear is just superior to the other in a side by side comparison when you account for the rest of the toolkit as well into the mix.

Chain Stratagem is a letdown solely due to it's cd. People only rag on AST because of the quantity and normality of their buffs that sit on a 30 second cd. Now that is perfectly fine and definitely fits AST but when giving buffs to the other healers such as CS on a 2-minute cooldown.... >.> CS's cd should only be a minute long especially due to its RNG nature of getting a crit. Yes it's utility but after using it in the opener I often forget it still exists on my hotbar until the boss is at around 3% health at which point I have the internal argument of whether I should use it or not.

I love current SCH it feels like an actual challenge to play, having to plan steps ahead in advance, but little brother AST is getting clothes that fit while the dev team still hasn't given the rest of us our sizes.

Embrace is weaker.

Rouse + Whispering Dawn is still one of the craziest healing abilities in the game.

Mind you if they removed Rouse + Whispering Dawn, then Scholar would be absolute trash tier.

Here's some suggestions to help out SCH.
Reduce the CD of Chain Stratagem to 60 seconds or extend the duration to 30 seconds.
Have E-Tactics reduce the cost of Adlo/Succor by half
Up Selene's Fey Wind buff to 5%
Remove Silent Dusk and make it grant a 5% Direct Hit buff instead.
Have Dissipation alter some of SCH's abilities, depending on which Fairy is consumed and grant a free resummon afterwards.

If Eos is consumed:
Sacred Soil gets a 5% buff to the amount of mitigation it offers.
Succor grants a weak regen while the shield holds
Physick has a 15% chance to make Adlo free

If Selene is consumed:
Sacred Soil inflicts enemies inside the bubble with a weak DoT
Succor provides a resource restore based on the shield's strength.
Physick has a 15% chance to make Adlo a guaranteed crit.

We got our big buff. SCH isn't going to see a fix for Selene or dissipation. Better off begging for next expac.

You're right, even now scholars are still pretty easy to play. But it is in my opinion the most complicated healer in comparison. I personally loved the 3.0 changes, deployment/emergency tactics are a few of my favorite spells out there. Dissipation has it's uses, but definitely more gimmicky than the other two. Let's be real here which healer has the most unique forms of healing. With ast you have BeneficI/II/Aspected/Helios/Aspected H/E. Dignity. (I suppose the lady of crowns counts...) With whitemages you just have oomf healing with regens. Scholars have a shield/Lustrate/excog/indom/succor (albeit more than half are gated behind aetherflows...)

In terms of not basic heals, okay astro takes the cake, but is it really by much? I mean they're just copy/paste regen/shields really.

And on the topic of the shielding aspect of scholars, I agree their should be more focus on that, but I also feel they are hesitant to do so because shield mitigation in it's own right can make mechanics trivial. So I think providing a broader range of poignant buffs/debuffs are a way to further the job and not make them "OP" like from 2.0 to 3.3 (Astrologians got a huge ass buff afterwards and became kings/queens until SB)

It's hard to accept the reality that SE wants to move Scholar away from shields and more to raw healing. Lore clashes aside (Scholar is a Nymian tactician, not a reaction healer), it'll just take time to accept this new direction.

That said, I still have major issues with Aetherpact. We work so hard for it and it's borderline useless. What you get for what you sacrifice is usually not worth it, it's slow and wonky. I really wish it was some powerful buff instead of a HoT... But I guess we also have to deal with two lackluster final skills two expansions in a row
