i think a lot of you ignore a valid point, most of the content create for the cash shop is mainly created with the cash from the sub, when they did create the cash shop first everything added into it was created from the sub, do it's normal? no.
- do the fact that the sub model is dying (more people are more silly than anything) make it valid to make a cash shop INTO a sub game?
the sub model is far to die, it's actually more valid than ever, the trouble is more the mmorpg style have a hard time to grabs more and more people. a lot of player prefer short fast paced game like moba, overwatch,.... that the reality, the sub is rarely a trouble since very often people can pay 1 at 3 time the sub value in cash shop item.
- do the fact that it's optional item make it valid to put them into a cash shop?
do you know the proverb that say, it's useless than we must have it? that the whole point of the glamour system and skin item, they are optional, not usefull for our character, however we will spend countless hours or invest energy for get it. what make most of the player of mmorpg play is to get this optional item that have little to no interest.
honestly speaking i'm not for the cash shop, mostly because the sub, plus the servant system is already quite enough for get more cash, the truth about this, is most of the cash from the sub are drained by other game of SE, it was FF15 at one time, now it's either KH3 or FF7 remake. why? because FF14 bring tons of cash to them.
trouble is the cash shop is the part of the money yoshida have full control over, most of it is used for FF14 only. means i'm conflicted by it. in a sense it's needed for yoshida and it's team for get more cash for FF14, but at the same time i feel stolen to see that they spend cash we did pay for create digital item that we must repay behind. when they have added the cash shop it was clear, most of the player had said:
ok for old cosmetic of event that will not be available for new player.... ok for service like fantasista and such, but right now, we have more and more and more exclusive item into it.
i'm not bothered by the item coming from the other country version, but item like sleipnir bother me a lot... this mount deserve to be a drop of odin... not into the cash shop. optional or not, when it's an item that have a lot to do with FF14, worst that is the mount from a boss we can fight... we must be able to obtain it from the fight.
a solution that will be a fair compromise... it's create item for the cash shop like they are doing right now and after a while add a way to obtain it into the game throught achievement... because right now achievement have little to not much reward from it. outside event and a few one.... we don't have tons of reason to do the achievement.
