I think my counter argument would be dissidia, which even has a character from XI jumping around.
Exactly. Way back in WoW's beta days, the Forsaken (undead) spoke Common and could communicate with Alliance characters. This led to a huge amount of bile that was spewed both ways, so it was removed and Forsaken started speaking Gutterspeak instead.
Aion does the same thing. Asmodians and Elyos can't understand each other (well, last I was playing there WAS an amusing workaround using your bazaar comment, which was universally understood).
I'm sure many other MMOs do this, too.
When opposing factions can understand each other, insults start flying. The 'war' takes a life of its own and the fight becomes personal.
It could be either. In the end PvP is still not just battle-related content only.Quote:
Card game would fit into the mini-games category.
It's just generally thought of like that and termed the same way due to other MMOs etc...
I have a few questions.
If there was toggle-on/off open world PVP then what kind of rewards would you expect for defeating another player?
Also, what kind of effect could that have on the economy of Eorzea? Could/would it become a world where you need to PVP in order to get ahead? And if so, would that not mean that, over time, costs would go up, meaning you would almost need to PVP in order to keep up with prices?
Basically what I'm getting at is that I don't mind toggle-on/off open world PVP but only if the rewards are non-monetary, or at least are of extremely low value. Otherwise I could even see bots working their way up the power levels and then jumping on every lower level person they can find to gain money, and then selling that gil online. Something I'd detest happening.
What kind of rewards are offered in other MMO's with open-world PVP? Does it impact the economy?
LOL! Wow........this debate is like the exact opposite of what was going on over at the Aion forums around the time I left that game. Over there, it was a debate over why some people wanted a PvE server and over here it's people clamoring for a PvP server.
Since Aion is a PvP(vE) game, the PvP'ers are the dominant voice telling all the "carebears" who wanted there to be a dedicated PvE server to go play FFXIV or "Hello Kitty".
So as a PvE'er I would like to take this opportunity to say that there are precious few MMO's out there that do NOT support open-world PvP, and that FFXIV should remain a PvE-centric title.
First, because FF titles lean toward cooperative play, requiring groups of people to enrich their own characters to work with other players toward common goals (like taking down NM's). But mostly because the supporters of open-world PvP shouldn't be able to have their cake and eat it,too. If PvP is implemented in this game, make a separate server for people to go to. Otherwise, leave the Open world griefing in games that have the lore to support it, and leave the "carebears" their FF and Hello Kitty.
pvp4life all the cool kids are doing it
Id like to see PvP im some form of PvP-Leve system, possibly tournament.
And also sign-up PvP arenas if some people wanna blow off some steam.
Rewards could be something like Guildleves have, something diffrent next day. (I'd still prefer gil over items)
There should also be a some type of Difficulty range to choose from, to match up the players levels with each other.
Kinda like the local craftleves option to choose wich craft-level.
New Edit:
Openworld PvP i could agree if it would be "Instance'd PvP" and doesnt affect the free-roaming adventuring. But there should be boundries to how far a player can stray off the instance'd PvP area in the open world.
I would be for organized PvP in the future in an arena setting. Fitting into the lore about Uldah Death bouts and such that were described on the website before launch would be a great way for it to fit into the game. But I would like battle content to be focused mainly on balancing PvE. PvE balance is the most important aspect to me and if changes were made to balancing I would ideally have it only be in affect during arena battles.
Eh, I'm not really for pvp..it wasn't implemented well in ff:xi, chances are they won't get it right this time...besides its way too early to worry aabout pvp in the games current state
There was PvP in FFXI, maybe you never found it.
It was called brenner & Ballista.
It's still PvP, but nothing close to as WoW's PvP.
