My advice isn't just for vets. Pointless to have Swiftcast that early because nothing in the 10-30 stretch is going to kill the fairy (so no resummoning needed), and you have no other long casts. Nothing should even be killing a player until maybe Haukke (~30), which is great because combat raise isn't until the mid 20s for either healer. Stoneskin is a waste of time that low.
One could argue Cleric Stance is a waste for new healers.
Focus.
Rant, whines and your opinion that healers who don't dps aren't as good as healers who heal isn't going to make a new healer a better player.
I am surprise this topic can stay alive for so long.
What is there to argue about?
If you are a healer and you DPS to 'help' out, kudos to you. You ADD value to your original job role which is healing. But can anyone tell you that you MUST absolutely DPS? NO! More so if you do not feel comfortable to do it.
If you are a DPS and you feel like healer should 'help' you out in your department, you might wanna rethink what you have done WRONG, because up-till-date for all the content in this game, a healer can go focus in healing without worrying about DPS check and DPS that are COMPETENT can do it by themselves. If you need help, you are INCOMPETENT.
The same goes to SMN that assist healer to resurrect the fallen. Do they really need to do that? NO! But if they do, i believe healers would really appreciate it. BUT can healer insist that SMN MUST resurrect the dead? NO! It is not their bloody job to do it.
A healer who didn't cast a single heal when first tanker and then dragoon were dying probably didn't even know she had to heal lol.
My idea behind mentioning CS is because it adds around 40% dps in i30 gear, so a healer dpsing without it is a first sign of him/her being new and inexperienced.
Another example from today: brayflox manor, i tank as pld, sch is using bane on every pull (without CS) and massively overhealing me (casting physick/adloquium if i am below 90% of hp), then he gets all adds on him and starts to spam physick on self, so i cannot take adds from him anymore. He was running low on mana at every pull of 3-4 mobs. It would be ok if he dpsed, but let the fairy to heal me (must Place her and stop overhealing). I think this basic stuff is more important to learn than doing some extra damage.
Great topic!
As a fresh healer (LVL. 36 SCH) I have been doing a lot of reading and building up my experience in order to become a better scholar and through that, a better healer.
My information below is based on being predominantly a scholar but I am building up my experience as a CNJ.
Let me know if there are any corrections or additional information. It will allow me to become a better healer!
Your role in the party is a healer. Heal first! DPS last!
Heal Priority! Tank > Healer (You) > DPS. If a tank dies, the party probably wipes! If the healer dies, the party possibly wipes. If the DPS dies...life goes on.
Know your skills! Know how much you heal for, how your Adloquium works etc. Know how long Physik, Adloquium takes to cast.
Know your pet! Know which pet to use when! If you're not sure! Then check with the Tank.
Know your pet! Know how long Embrace takes and how much it heals for! Know how much Whispering Dawn heals for per regen!
Know your Tank! Know how much damage he takes and when you need to heal in order to not over-heal and drawn enmity!
Communicate! Talk to your tank! Ask them if they need anything! Should you DPS more or less.
When to DPS! Understand that your Bio/BioII/Miasma/Stone/Aero will take the place of 1 physik/cure! Can you afford to not heal? Sometimes the lack of 1 physik/cure can start a chain-reaction that can cause a party wipe because of unforeseen damage.
Know your skills! Know the cast times of your Bio/BioII/Miasma! As a scholar you have access to some devious skills that keeps on giving. BioII and Bane. This will help your party significantly! Virus on Boss! Tank will laude you! Just know when to do it and only if your tank can afford to!
Last and not least.
Heal pre-emptively! Too many healers wait for the Tank to get pummeled before they start healing. When you know your tank and know what damage he can take, you will know when to start healing in order to heal effectively without drawing enmity.
Just stay calm! When your tank is busy and an add has his fugly sight on you, just keep calm. Get to your tank so he can draw the enmity off you. There is nothing sadder/comical than a healer running in circles, virtually screaming like a little girl, spamming heals on himself! I've been there and done that. Just stay calm!
Message me and/or reply if there are any changes to be made or if there are any other tips you want to add especially from Tanks!
- Don't start healing until tanker has enough enmity on all affected targets (if i am not mistaken 1 flash counters 2000 healed hp).
- Always side with the tanker, not dps: tanker can keep mobs from you, dps cannot (don't heal dps until tanker takes mobs from them).
- Learn to Place the pet, especially if you are dpsing - it will do half (if not all) of your healing work if stays within healing range with the tanker. i70 fairy can solo heal most of AK and all lv31 and below dungeons.
- Obey the pet - clicking off Whispering Dawn is annoying, wasting Fei Illumination is quite bad.
- Pre-cast Eye4Eye at every 4+ mob pull unless you are saving it for some very big pull.
