*Dies from unavoidable aoe healing*
This morning, queue'd up for Sastasha to complete one of my relic books for Curtana.
Got 2 new people to the run and a healer.
Pulling the firt pac, he goes: "I'm going AFK, Eos has you covered"
....
15 minutes later I just kicked him, the 2 new people asking why.
Kindly explained I do not carry AFK people throug a dungeon, and that he could have helped with dealing damage.
Both of hem said that made sense and they were okay with the kick they just voted on.
Got an awesome healer as replacement that helped DPS and control the mobs.
Here's to hoping that new people follow the same lesson.
I never use Medica II during trash pulls if the tank is the only one taking damage. I don't need to, and it's a waste of my MP and time. That time could be better spent casting another Holy!
But really, Medica II isn't needed in a lot of situations. Regen+Asylum is fine in most cases.
Did a PotD run. Myself as healer, 3 DPS. Group pulled 2 monsters, then a monster-trap was triggered, so we're handling 5 mobs and I'm actually forced to heal away. One of the DPS decides this is the perfect time to go and open one of the chests in the room; which of course spawns a mimic. 1 person dies, 2 of us get that 10 minute DoT. But, we make it.
Out of MP and waiting to raise the dead person, our brilliant chest-opening tactician decides that one person dead and an MP-hungry healer is the perfect time to open another chest. Again, as you'd expect, it's a mimic, which kindly gave out some more 10 minute DoTs.
I have no idea the mentality behind 'Well everyone's fighting... time to take a break and open a chest!'
Haukke manor, at final boss, newbie tank was doing a good job of amassing the mobs for machinist to LB aaaaaannnnnnnnnddddd.........
....... machinist turned away, leading to LB being fired in the OTHER direction.
Tank died, healer died, and I was laughing too hard to run away before I died.
Wasn't doing much in game yesterday so on a whim I decided to RF Sephirot EX (I haven't clear it yet so yeah) while tabbed off to work on my writing project. I never expected it to pop for the whole day but after 6 hours of ups and downs on the queue status, it finally popped right as soon as I was done making progress on my project. I got all eager to clear it since I was free at the same time after that.
I got in a party consisted of about 5 people that were non-english speakers. One of them was the tank who recklessly pulled the fight without countdown so none of the others were ready. DPS was quite low on the first two phase but we managed to get through the big attack. Everyone else wiped before first earthshaker, with me standing last. After the wipe, they all started to argue with one another in non-english and then they stupidly pulled a votekick on a lowbie MNK which I said no but they kicked him anyway and they all left the party.
6 hours for an old EX drama? Great Hydaelyn, Raubahn didn't lose an arm for this.
I managed to steal 2coms from my fc leader when we qd 50 roulette yesterday. and I do mean steal because by all rights she's a top notch tank. she has plenty of DPs classes maxed but for all intents and purposes she's a tank main, able to survive giant pulls with a mediocre healer.
how did I steal comms from such a person?
*after demon wall boss*
me:I think that went rather well. in fact I'd say it was.... marbleous
rando1:I just let out an ugly laugh
rando 2: xD
fc leader: hey guys vote yes on this pop-up don't bother reading it
Went to cutter's cry to lvl up my dark knight. Got a whm, blm and ninja.
Everything went smooth and defeated the last boss quickly.
I was feeling great (Invisible high fives to go around! XD) and wanted to give a commendation to healer.
Oh he left.
Ok let me give to ninja then.
Oh he left.
Ok I will give it to the black mage then.
...
He left.
At this point i was all alone for a few seconds near the exit, processing what just happened. (Did i hear cricket sounds somewhere? :P)
This is what happens when you grind the same dungeon continuously for hours. *Totally brain dead*
Too bad i can't eat my own player commendation lol XD
So, it's about 9:30pm today and I'm doing some work and Selli's ingame doing dungeons and all of a sudden I hear her start hysterically sobbing. I was really worried and rushed over (honestly I kind of thought someone was breaking into the house), and she's sitting there at the end of Ultima in absolute hysterics. And. Well. I'm just gonna post the screenshots she took.

For clarification, she was crying tears of joy. :^)
I'm not allowed to drive twoseater mounts anymore. Thank goodness we don't take damage from bumping into things.
I guess you guys won't be finding your Waldo for a while.
Wow, congratulations Selli! :D That's awesome.
On my own quest for the mentor mount (I'm currently at 65/2000 ;_; ) I loaded in progress at a nearly empty Nidhogg. Just me (BLM) and a dragoon. There had been one wipe, and he was the only one who hadn't left. Within a few minutes, the party filled up, and the fight was on. In the first flyover attack, both healers died - one because she tried to dodge the fire going to the very edge of the arena, which of course doesn't work even though it seems like there's space. We all had a laugh as we wiped, and then killed the dragon in one.
Another time I loaded into Nidhogg in progress during the add phase. Proceeded to boom them down and then won in one.
And one 1 minute in progress at Sophia, at her add phase, and another oneshot.
Always fun to get in at 1 minute runs, replacing an instaleaver and then oneshotting the boss and being out of there long before their penalty timer would have run out.
I'm a mediocre scholar.
I realise yesterday I still have the weekly quest for when I eventually get my second Anima up to the cluster phase (I'm at 26/50, and about 139/240 I think?)... with one levelling roulette needed for it to be done. So hell, I flip on scholar for a laugh, it's just levelling roulette, I'll either pull the Vault which I can handle despite mediocrity, or someone so low-level Eos can handle it.
Load into Cutter's Cry. Well, at least it's not Dzemael or Aurum Vale...? Tank's a sprout, ninja's a sprout, Grandmaster of Magic dragoon. I'm the only one level synched and they're all level 39, so the sprouts are probably trying to catch up to MSQ level, and the Grandmaster just levelling for fun, I've been in both situations myself.
First pull... Well, aggro's going just about everywhere, especially poor little Eos (how she never died that run remains a mystery, but I have the suspicion that I peeled aggro off her or one of the DPS plucked it off her).
Now, I'm mediocre but I know a scholar's supposed to be in cleric 90% of the time, too bad I don't have Rouse yet.
I couldn't. People were too slow to leave the Self-Destruct aoes which got nothing more than a heavy sigh from me at that point. I do what every healer does during the first boss - I put up Eos' HoT and haul butt over to kite adds... oh god why is the group following me. I tell them mid-haul (I play on controller, I can type while vaguely running into one direction) "it's okay, focus on the boss". Have to swiftcast Physick the tank before it goes down, but all's well that ends well.
The next haul... I'm known for nearly recklessly dpsing in most cases, ESPECIALLY as astrologian but... yeah, I basically couldn't. There was so much damage going out on everyone I had to assist Eos with a few adlos and physicks.
Sandworm boss passes without too much interesting happening, except it takes just a tick longer than normally.
By that point a certain kind of dread is settling in my stomach. I've healed plenty of Cutter's Cries with trainwreck parties, which in itself eventually gave me the emergency healing skill that I can save a near doomed party in Sohm Al even though The Last Song goes off... but the Chimera....
I have to point out here, no one's new to duty. We stumble through mobs with aggro on everything and everyone, at that point I have a certain rhythm going on and 0 dps because I can't afford that in a levelling dungeon in such a situation. I didn't even dare Whispering Wind on anything other than bosses and the occasional messy mob pull mostly because I kinda need Eos alive and healbotting to keep this mess running.
And then... the Chimera.
Mostly uneventful, other than a certain inability to dodge Ram's Voice, at some point the dragoon got hit by it for the... 3rd, 4th time? and just instantly died. That about amounts to the events in this fight. After the fact and after the loot I tab out to check Twitter if anyone said anything about waiting for me for Void Ark (no, nothing, but they were waiting), and I tab back in...
The tank called me "best healer" in say. I got three commendations (I had given mine to the dragoon for usually plucking mobs off me when they saw them, or even off Eos). Bweh...
On the best of days, I can generously be described as "short of patience". When I'm healing, that patience shrivels up like a prune in the sun.
Which brings me to incidents in which I landed with a DPS who managed to get themselves killed by running straight into an exploding ball, while dodging an AoE. I ressed them, they got back up, and not 30 seconds later, they died to the exact same exploding ball, dodging the exact same AoE.
I then promptly refused to ress them for the rest of the fight. None of the other party members missed much, because this was one of those DPS who, at level 60, didn't have a job skill beyond 50, and couldn't even get more aggro than Eos.
A similar incident happened with another DPS, who was new to the dungeon in question. They died to the final boss, which is reasonable, being new. What I couldn't find reasonable was when, after being ressed and healed, they proceeded to stand inside a DoT-AoE for several seconds, having plenty of time to step out of it, but instead chose to die again. Again, I refused to waste any more MP on ressing.
But it all culminated in a run in which the tank severely annoyed me by doing huge pulls when we only had 2 DRGs, refusing to stop for proper mechanics explanations for the newbie DRG, or giving troll advice like "don't die", and basically insulting me and the other, mentor DRG for, you know, wanting to tell a newbie about mechanics.
So, again, I snapped, let said tank die, and healed the mentor DRG instead as they tanked the rest of the boss.
And things like these are why I'm not a mentor; I'm too petty and vindictive to be one.
Because I don't have photoshop, enjoy this horribly done picture in Paint.
I regret nothing.

The other day I did Weeping City as my Black Mage and I received a nice surprise at the end. Especially considering I was prepartied with one of the tanks.

It doesn't always happen where DF groups you with super nice and fun people that aren't just all together. I think it was my puns that won them over. lol
Got Stone Vigil for leveling roulette yesterday. Not-paying-attention white mage was not paying attention. I'm fairly certain at lvl 58 they weren't the one new to the duty. But when Chudo-Yudo charged up Swinge twice in a row, aimed almost exclusively at them, and they eat both without moving... I facepalmed.
Just got out of a Vault with perhaps the worst BRD player I've ever seen. Not only were they not using Minuet at all, there was not a single DoT effect to be found. They used nothing but Heavy Shot, Flaming Arrow and Wide Volley the entire run.
It took 40 minutes to finish, and that was without wiping. 40 minutes of watching this guy jump his high pitched squeaky catgirl all over the place nonstop playing like he's still a level 1 ARC. *sigh*
I guess it's a good thing I was the co-dps in that run (and that I'm at least a mediocre DRG), or we could have gone towards making it an hour long dungeon. :P
Some fresh nightmares from PotD levels 91-100 as a healer with 3 dps.
Had a ninja with barely over +30 armor running ahead and aggroing 2-3 monsters at a time, saved from the brink of death several times by yours truly (which of course meant -I- was now tanking 2-3 monsters at a time). But Hell, alright let's do this... I love to live dangerously. At about floor 96 though, ninja runs into a room FULL of dragons. A half-dozen at least. No way am I gonna grab that aggro, so I let him die.
Well, I raise him... and the guy dies, again, thanks to grabbing more than he could chew, again. We get to the next floor, and the guy uses a rage pom. At a 30% stat penalty from weakness he's got barely 5k hps to work with, and -again runs into the middle of several monsters-. Even with instant-death punches, he was instantly ganked. After complaining for a while that I didn't heal them fast enough, they again ran off on their own, died a 4th time, and finally ragequit.
It still seems to be inordinately difficult to not kill the Spiny Plume in Garuda Ex...
She loves this. I texted her asking where she was and she replied with this picture. She thinks it's hilarious, lol.
(edit) Oop! I forgot to say thank you to those who congratulated her! She really loves the mount and she is celebrating by refusing to run dungeons for a couple days (though she will probably have to in a couple hours because she didn't cap!).
Copperbell NM, leveling my MRD. Our BLM was a mentor and insisted on running ahead or poking the mob I pull then swapping for no good reason. Or, on the part you need to clear 2 rooms, I ran into one and she... ran into the other (healer followed her). I had half a mind to turn my crown on and go medieval on her.
Since I've been leveling my alt who's still a sprout (while my main has mentor), I've been experiencing alot of players either trying to "flex their muscles" so to speak, or just do things like this- use their crown to try to push me to play their way. The latter is much more widespread in palace, but as for the former...
I got into a leveling roulette the other day on my little catgirl pally, got Qarn. no bonus, I've run it before on that character, but the healer, first thing after loading, "Don't worry, baby... I'm a savage healer!" As if that has.... anything to do with qarn? anyway, we start getting up to the boss, and he starts spouting off mechanics. "ok" i thought "i'm a sprout, i havent said anything, he's trying to help". so I just say "I know the dungeon" in chat and keep going.
Well this "savage" healer does no mechanics, dies to the first doom, and hasn't had cleric stance up to this point. Luckily I didn't have to say anything, because the DRG in the party steps up to heckle them. I think they might have been buddies with how they talked to eachother. anyway...
I'm now paying attention to the actual party list. If this guy wants to keep measuring his epeen, i'll step up my game. I know which mass pulls I can handle in qarn with a healer that can handle them. Anyway, after the "required" stones, I pull the 2 mantises and the 3 walkers and run them slightly into the boss room to avoid the patrolling ghost. the healer has a fit "why are you pulling so much!?" so i reply "i thought a savage healer could handle it!" and i get in response "but you're new! learn how to pull small first"
honestly, the rest of the dungeon went by with just the others bouncing off eachother in chat, but.... yeesh. It's like some people treat sprouts like second-class citizens....
oh and, none of those "savage raiders" pulled aggro off my HQ mythril set "newbie" PLD in qarn.
I just witnessed a hero in Weeping City. We got to Ozma. Naturally someone reminded in /a that meteors are back and left.
First meteor mechanic happens and I'm one of the marked players. Other person goes back, I go left. What am I graced with? A dragoon from another alliance next to me who accidentally went right. Hey shit happens, we all mess up. I myself am directionally challenged at times too. "But Jei," you ask, "how does this make him a hero?"
What i witnessed next made this player a hero. I saw him, he saw me. The next thing I see is him jumping off the ledge taking his meteor marker with him. Rather than wipe the raid he made the ultimate sacrifice.
Well played you glorious bastard, well played o7
No matter how many times I see someone jumping off with a meteor its hilarious for the first 10 secs. Then I realize it still drops the meteor where their body shows up and screws their team. (Oh well they tried)
lol does it? well everyone survived regardless ^^; lucky either way and it was still funny at the time
Yesterday i was determined to get my Warrior to lvl 60. That time i was level 59.
I opened duty finder and i wonder to try trials. I havent done on war except ifrit and titan. For some reason i had a hunch i will get Thorn march. I went to look up just in case what i had to do. I queue up and behold i got Thorn March!!! Knew it!! XD
Did leveling roulette and 50s dungeon roulette but still didnt level up. I was quite close.
Look up the highest dungeon i can go and i got Gubal Library normal.
Everything was fine, die a few times cus healer was down. The final boss was very messy. Couldnt seal quickly and 2 adds spawn. I grab one but the healer and other dps stood so far away at the edge of the corner. Honestly it was so messy i thought we couldnt win but i still pushed on. The boss HP was still quite a lot but the other dps (SMN and DRG) was doing a good job. Healer was raising one dead dps so i did what i could to keep myself alive. I was really on low HP but i manage to survive on boss and 2 adds. In the end we manage to defeat the boss and i got to lvl 60 by then :D
Warrior is my first tank on 60 and this was my first time getting in a pinch but i manage to keep it cool and use all the utilities i have to stay alive for my party. Overall it was a good lesson and experience before reaching lvl 60.
Time to celebrate!! Huzzah! XD

Never thought I'd actually feel like posting this thread but I just about pulled my hair out. 4 wipes in Aurum Vale. I think the tank must have thought I had a bigger toolkit but forgot about the level cap. Proceeds to pull half the first room and spammed unleash. No time to dps... several wipes from big pulls since not even phalanx with roused Eos and physick/adlo spam could save her. Also conveniently turned bad breath while I was spamming heals to keep them alive. Is pulling this many how they usually do it in English servers? The person had all their jobs at 50+ so this whole inattention to dying seems more than mere coincidence.
Aah it's good to be back <3
I had so many stories I wanted to share but have forgotten them all by now xD
So all I can talk about now is my uneventful "I remembered at 4 am on Monday that I still have to do 3 leveling roulettes" story.
I learned something new today - that I hate healing the lvl 51 dungeon. Got paired with an ilvl 240-260 mentor tank.
Seeing that we had a MNK and NIN (two classes obviously known for their AMAZING AoE capabilities ), said tank was convinced there was no better plan than to always pull from door to door, largest pulls possible.
Now, I have leveled my PLD in there not too long ago and know just how brutal the scaling is in there, I have no idea why but this dungeon just destroyed me as a tank (while Sohm Al never hurt as much in the same gear).
So I was...wary. And, as expected, even with constant healing and all my cooldowns and even bene I barely kept him alive.
Maybe it would have been fine if mobs went down faster, but I really can't blame the dps, they did their best but a NIN is no BLM and a MNK no SMN in terms of AoE dmg :|
So I asked him if smaller pulls wouldn't be a better idea. Was met with angry "I know how to do this right, don't tell me how to do my job!" and "I'm OP anyways, my gear is amazing, if you can't heal this you are the problem here" messages.
Because I really couldn't afford getting kicked over something so stupid (because I needed to finish 3 runs before weekly reset and this was only the first..xD), I didn't say anything else and just tried to keep him alive.
That's when he got really nasty, complaining about my lack of Holy Spam (well excuse me, maybe if you stopped dropping from 100% HP to 1% in 0.1 seconds I could get more than 2 or 3 Holys out..>.>),
how a good healer should always keep the tank over 50% HP (he dropped to dangerously low numbers even when I had all my heal buffs on and kept spamming my strongest heals + 2 regens active on him), and so on.
I had noticed before that he never bothered stepping out of any AoE, so I told him that maybe I could attack more if he didn't eat each AoE thrown at him. Answer:
"I'm a tank, I don't need to step out of AoEs. And I outgear this dungeon by far anyways so it doesn't matter if I get hit"
Urgh. UUUUURGH. We kind of somehow finished, without wipes and without kicks, but all of my energy for the night was already spent on that one fight xD
At least after that was the most sweet and lovely and wonderful Sproutling tank I ever had in the lvl 55 Nidhogg dungeon :o
Even though his gear broke, was so much easier to heal, knew what he was doing and followed mechanics. Just healing my soul..<3
Got another Mentor tank in Brayflox NM afterwards, and while he wasn't bad or rude or anything, he kept on trying to do my job, which REALLY bothered me ._.
Like, I can go afk if you want me to or something? Entering the instance, before the circle even fell, he already cast Protect, then stormed off and tried to cast Cure on himself whenever his HP fell..
I've seen Sprouts do that who aren't aware yet that just because they can cross-class a skill doesn't mean they need to use it, or who are used to solo play from 1-15 and then try to continue doing the same once they enter Sastasha,
but this guy was a Mentor so by no means unfamiliar with the trinity :/
Meh. I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine..xD
Us sproutlings are amazing sometimes :D
And refreshing :P
So in Great Gubal Library normal as DRK, I found out that, if I really put my back into it, I can totally solo down the last 20% of the first boss. I would really rather do it as PLD though. Because Clemency gives me a lot more peace of mind than desperately spamming Souleater combos.
But hey, after that 50-minute run, I have only one thing left in me to say:
THE STRUGGLE WAS REAL.
Did an expert roulette as a DPS and a DRK as the tank.
Healer: "You should really be using Darkside"
DRK Tank: "Not my style."
