I mean, if they look like Lyn, ehhhhhhhh, they'd have to change ALL revealing outfits, but if they look like ellin I literally quit the game out of disgust lol

Honestly, most things that don't involve sexy Y'shtolas or wiafus from FFXIV don't tend to get to far on the upvotes, so lol I'm not half surprised. Reddit is simply not valid feedback. 1 Person can make as many accounts as they want, and most ppl probs never even played, or maybe even know about XIV
Well too bad for you.
Male miqote made SE so many tons of money, and femroes are the best thing on this game.
Also, it's very likely imo at least that the missing genders will be here by 6.0, and trust me, we will get either both or none
Also, guys, I was wondering if you'd rather have a full viera race or full hrotgar race at 5.0
I can't really answer that right now. It depends on how limited hrothgar hair will be, which we won't really know until launch.
If hrothgar will have a variety of hair options, and new hairs will come out for hrothgar at the same frequency as other races, then I think hrothgar makes for a good addition. However, if the hrothgar fad calms down a bit after launch, and I don't see anyone playing as hrothgar anymore because of the limited hair options, then I don't think it was worth it.
Like I said, we won't know until launch, but I am hoping for the best.
I'm not sure we'll be getting any new races after this. In the fanfest, Yoshida said it would be the last. However, maybe that's not entirely true because in more recent interviews, Yoshida has gone to speak in a way that suggests new races may still be a possibility. Although I mainly care about male viera being added, I wouldn't mind seeing other sorts of races added later down the road. I would hope male viera and female hrothgar come out first, though. I do recall seeing a moogle race thread on these forums. While I don't think moogles would be added, a small furry animal race using a lalafell base might be within the realm of reality.
As someone that wanted a bestial race for a long time (still sad that its not something like the lupins) I would have choosen Hrothgar, especially if the females are beastial like the males, if they had less limitations. Having faces and manes stuck together really is a big turn off for me, especially when I already disliked combined horns and faces for Au Ra..but at least I was able to still choose my hair. With Hrothgar its even less which I find a big shame for the first beastial race..
I do plan to go female Viera on release (which is surprising, since I was never much interested in Viera before) and if they still all had their restrictions just like right now, then I would have choosen the Viera as complete race before the Hrothgar.
(And no this is not an attack on those that will play Hrothgar..its just my opinion that they are much too restricted)
It depends on the effect it'd have on their overall workload. My (strong) preference is for enhanced character customisation and high res textures to come in 6.0.
I would prefer for them to work on the high res textures, character customisation and graphics enhancements in 6.0 and fit the two races around that. If that means delaying the missing genders till 7.0 (and would therefore have implied adding one full race in 5.0, and one in 7.0), I'd say do that. Obviously my preference is for Viera, but given their desire to capture "refugees" from certain other MMOs the timing may be critical, so I'd rather see them do whatever contributed better to the game's overall profitability so as to be in a position to add more features later down the line.
Did he say probably? I don't remember 100%.
This is the interview I'm referring to around 1:40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bDYAtfPfqo
Seems like new races aren't completely off the table, but it's really iffy.
A dataminer found that SE intentionally started 'woring' (basically, left everything prepared for) on both the missing genders and a full new race. I think it's just something they'll do in a HUGE update before the game is put on stasis, and the biggest thing I take from that are the missing genders. Would love to see Bangaa personally
I'm in agreement. I'd prefer to see the existing playable races updated as a priority. Viera fans won't have to wait as long as the fans of the base races...assuming they're added not too long afterwards. We've seen people petitioning from the days of ARR for more customisation options for the existing playable races.
And what if the graphics upgrades of which I speak were to buy the game several more years in longevity and also make it easier to add new races in the first place? It's nearing a decade of age now and character-centric elements of the game are beginning to look dated.
Viera were never confirmed until 4.0, which is the point at which I consider the 'wait' to begin. Otherwise anything and everything under the sun can be classed as something people have been waiting for.
The base models are in dire need of some polish, regardless - and that would appeal to a broader range of people in the process too.
Like I said, your points are obviously valid, but I'd rather have missing geners over any other graphic/customization things personally. This game's graphics are very decent and most ppl play it on bad PCs, so expect a few years until they add the graphics updates. I'd say that, by 8.0-7.0, the general PC will be strong enough for them to update the graphics
More customization was also never confirmed that I'm aware of, correct me if I'm wrong, but that would mean ppl with old races haven't even begun to wait by using that logic
They've stated that they want to do it, so long as they can deal with the limitations involved. More recently their tone has become a lot more positive towards such things - presumably because they're well aware that to lure in more new players they need a broader variety of character options.
It has nothing to do with the average user spec. They would also risk seriously diluting the value of any investment they were to put into the graphics upgrades if they were to push them that far out.
They may have skipped over a bump up to the spec for 5.0 but there's little chance that they will do the same for 6.0 and in any case, it's irrelevant.
In that case, I think that they should give players the option to play as both sexes on any race, and then add more hair colors and hairstyles. Also, considering we will likely only get 1-2 new faces or eyes or something like that per race, that shouldn't meant hey can't do the missing genders for 6.0, considering modders, with limited quality due to a limited way to do mods, have already done the previously stated. Also, from what I've hear, I believe Yoshida simply said they'll look into it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they haven't said anything since and I believe they said this at least 2 years ago. I do hope we get more customization ofc, but I also hope they prioritize male viera and female hrotgar
He discussed it as recently as the art panel during the EU fanfest, as well as when it came up during the guest sessions with Yoshi during the JP fanfest, and it has come up in several interviews, including the one I linked.
I saw the interview and it states that they'd only be able to do 2/3 of gear. I think that if SE gets a bigger budget, or decides to sacrifice gear for something, it'll be missing genders>Customization>Graphics mostly because the graphics already look very good. Compare it to WoW lol
For what it's worth, I'd also like it if the dev team prioritized adding male viera and female hrothgar. I do hope for more character customization for current races in the future still.
Yes but it's not just competing with WoW anymore, but several other MMOs (and non-MMOs) besides, some of which look very polished and allow significantly more scope for customisation in character creation. When you're asking a consumer to devote their money and time to the game, it's not just a case of what other MMO could they be playing but what other uses in general could that time/money go towards.
It is worth considering that the addition of the missing genders and the high res texture conversion present the same problem (converting existing assets) and so solving this issue would by implication ease the addition of the missing genders. It is also the same problem that having multiple body types per race poses. The gear output was just an example of a trade-off that could take place, with his point being that they're trying to find ways to render the conversion of assets more efficient. Thus why I say I would rather they prioritised this.
I didn't mean it like that. I meant to say what race would ppl have prefered to get, as a full race, with the other one being either saved or scrapped at 5.0
IMO if they prioritize gear modeling research to automate it, they will make the game 5000x times better with different body types, more races, missing genders etc...
I don't think it's just as simple as "a bigger budget", maybe if they hire contractors, but what ends up happening is they end up having too much staff and start needing to make sweeping lay-offs. I'm not gonna claim to be an expert in that field, but blizzard was hit by massive lay-offs and they have a huge budget, granted I think a lot of those were community management and e-sports positions.
I think female hrotgar should get a bit more dev time. They could make a male elezen with bunny heads, and no one would bat an eye, but with female hrotgar, if they do it right (PLZ SE, NO MORE FEMALE MIQOTE) It'lll be a lot more work, taking either a male model or a fem roe model and changing it a lot
I wouldn't even call it safe. Not after what happened to female Au'ra. @_@
Unlike male viera, female Hrothgar have a potential base to start from. I am pretty sure female ronso have appeared previously.

I don't think they have to be hunched over like males either.
Well, yeah, there's also the fact we also know what female ronso's look like, and I think a female roegadyn base would suit them. I still think they'd have a hunch like the males, but maybe a bit more subtle.
i would just want them to be as beastly as the males
