The 'means' probably already exist. Just can't, when making use of them, stream with sound on without fear of being banned for having made the improvements the devs can't be bothered with...

I left more in game feedback AND I'm posting in this thread again. The main 1-2-3 combo (Keen Edge, Brutal Shell and Solid Barrel) definitely still sounds awful and it still needs a fix, considering that it's used 90% of the time to generate cartridges it's use is unavoidable. Still sounds as others have stated (blunt, like a pipe, like rolled up cardboard/newspaper) It needs more emphasis on the BLADE slashing (sharp slashes) rather than being a dull thud/thwack (blunt). It's been 2 years, we've given a steady stream of feedback. Please don't ignore us. Please fix it for Endwalker!
There's a decent chance the mods won't work for a few days, but I doubt the expansion would shake things up that much overall as to have them down for a long period unless the devs aim to push back specifically against sound/texture/icon replacement in general. Shadowbringers, for instance, didn't have much effect.
Excellent. I guess I'll have to deal with not hearing my main combo until it gets updated. Hopefully it isn't too long of a wait.
i found it funny they spent so much time speaking about sound design and had soken there to speak, with regards to this whole new surround sound thing, but GNB's cries for a sound readjustment for the solid barrel combo seem to've fallen onto deaf ears.
Could anyone elaborate on why the sounds were changed? I honestly liked the older sounds more.
The explosions sounded like crap initially so they changed them to be better but they also changed the blade sounds as well so players got something they wanted but also something they hated.
No one really knows. Well, sort of. I know a handful of people complained on the forums bitched about how they couldn't hear the explosions and the sword was 'too wooshy', so they overcorrected and made it sound like crap. Then the backlash of them changing it was much bigger but they ignored it. I remember when we even got a question about it into the live letter once and it was pretty much "You'll get used to it" and then never mentioned again. I'm not sure if there was some other motive for them changing it but it sounds like players who didn't play GNB just didn't want to hear the weapon at all in combat and got what they wanted.
It might be a lost cause at this point, but I still miss the original sound effects too. It might sound weird, but sound plays a big part to me in how it feels to play a job and I would definitely enjoy and play GNB more if they changed them back.
I'm still in awe that we got nothing but a one or two sentence response after two years. Like obviously the old sounds were something that they worked hard on. They had a whole section of a video dedicated to crafting and capturing the light slicing sound effects of a Gunbreaker.
They knee jerk changed them within a week, and gave no future plans to adjust or re-imagine what a gunbreaker should sound like. I had hopes for something like this in Endwalker, but from the trailers and gameplay, the sounds are still exactly the same. I can still say that the sound effects actively turn me away from the job.
Sounds are a really important part of the game, and your personal attacks are at the forefront. Gunbreaker would absolutely be my first choice of a tank job, but even after all this time, I can't get past how bad the sound effects make it feel.
Oh yeah, I wouldn't complain if they reverted the changes at some point. I just don't think they will. I love the job enough, however, that it doesn't really bother me quite as much as most. I'm digging the new sounds for the new abilities though. They are perfect.
As stated in a recent known issues post: "We will also check for feedback such as "it's getting harder to hear" or "the sound doesn't feel right" individually, and if any adjustments are needed, we will fix them in the patch as well."
I'd strongly urge anyone that still cares to look into providing constructive feedback before 6.01. They seem to be doing a pass over looking for things like this, and if there's any time that we could possibly actually get a change, this would be it.
Got to lvl 86 for the newest ability Hypervelocity and very disappointed to find that it sounds next to nothing like it does in the job actions trailer. It lost that metal grind sound right before the loud explosion sound and now just makes a somewhat neutered explosive sound. Not sure why they didn't keep it the way it was. As for the 90 ability not able to say yet, but I imagine it got changed from the trailer too.
Though to be perfectly honest, as someone who has leveled up just about every job, I really think sound design just isn't that important to them. Most abilities of most jobs sound very low volume and lack impact. Animations are incredible, but the actual sounds themselves don't do them justice on average. It's not really a GNB unique problem it's an overall issue with the team's approach to sound. Just tried sage recently and though I like the sounds they also have the same low-volume problem (not enough to bother me but still). A lot of issues would be resolved if they just turned up the bloody volume on a lot of sounds. Feels like they team's approach to sound is deliberately restrained and I don't really get why since they're the exact opposite with animations. They need to realize people WANT loud and impactful sounds, not like people who don't can't just turn down the sound effect volume.
Safe to say though that Soken or whoever is in charge of sound design just wants sounds to be downplayed heavily, for whatever reason. They're more interested in how abilities LOOK than how they sound. But it's not really appealing when you watch a job trailer and see this incredible animation of a spell only to hear it to have the impact of a wet noodle.
I disagree. I play with reduced visual effects, so for me learning how impactful sounds sound is important, especially for raids so as to identify things like trick attack, battle litany, chain stratagem, et al.
sound is the other half of the audio/visual experience. to have one half of that lacking is bad.
Yeah, Hypervelocity sounds nothing like it did in the trailer. I literally only hear the boom. I submitted a feedback report, but I don't have much faith given how they busted GNBs main combo previously.
The strangeness of the new sounds might be stemming from the absence of the "combo ping/zing" sound effect that is supposed to play when you successfully complete a weaponskill combo. For whatever reason, this sound effect doesn't play anymore since patch 6.0, and as such weaponskill sounds always seem like they're "cut off" or otherwise sound like you simply used the ability out-of-order or pressed it without it being "lit up" as part of a combo.
The actual sound effect file of the combo ping/zing (whatever you want to call it) seems to still be there, it just looks like for whatever reason the game isn't calling it up anymore. No idea if it's intentional or accidental. I hope it's the latter, because the sound effect was helpful to know if you were performing properly just by listening, and the sound effect also made up a portion of what we perceive as the "correct way" that weaponskills sound (since we should have always heard them sound this way up until now).
amazing this thread is still here 2 years goin strong. keep at it, hopefully the ffxiv team will at least give the option the change switch out the sounds. I remember gunbreaker was my favorite job by far when it came out, but the hollow cardboard banging sound ruined it for me. The og sounds synced with the the hits perfectly and sounded great. Dont know what compelled them to so this. I hope they change it or atleast give the option to switch out at some point, there is no way they have not seen this thread. I know Pc has a mod for the sound effects that make them sound like the og but alas Im a console peasant. Im rocking with reaper atm, which is amazing and fluid but I would switch back to gunbreaker in a heart beat if the sounds changed back.
I hope we get the old gnb sounds back
It's really funny coming across this thread. I started playing a couple of months ago and as soon as I unlocked Gunbreaker, the first thing I noticed was how annoying the sound effects were for my 1-2-3 combo. I had no idea they had different sound effects before this, but the fact that I instantly noticed it should really say something to how bad the current SFX are. I looked up the trailer after I saw this thread and I would love for the sound effects to go back to the way they were before.
I didn't know about this. Where could I check the original sounds?
The very first cutscene after picking up the job quest, to my knowledge, still has the original sounds used.
Or: https://twitter.com/Very_Merri/statu...41671247200256
The current / then-new sounds are used first, the original launch sounds second.
all they need is just to copy paste PLD/DRK sword sound effect and people couldnt care less even it just a copy paste assets instead of new one
that just how bad the current sound effect is
This one is even better.

welp no luck with the latest patch. Sucks because Id imagine it would not be hard at all just the add sound changes as a simple option in the menu or something so everyone is happy. they more than likely have still have the old sound file. Hopefully they change it some day. Kinda sad when mods like the above do a better job. They have made all sorts of weird decision when it comes skills effects and animation . Like when took aways paladin rage of halon or warriors butchers block. By far some the of the coolest looking tank skills. Never really played much dark knight but It had some pretty cool looking skills like scourge, delerium and power slash in heavensward and they stripped those to. wish square would add official mod support for console/skill glamour's or hire this, dude his skill animation mods are sick:

Crossing finger for changes in the up coming 6.05.

makes me wanna cry. the metal sounds felt so good and synced perfectly with each hit. vs these day, it sounds like im getting wacked by a blunt/cardboard dildo.
also I made a complaint thread in the feed back section, if you guys want to chime in to keep it alive, so they could potentially see it
https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...AKER-SOUNDS%21
I wonder how the person(s) who originally complained about the OG GNB sounds and is the reason SE changed them feel(s) to this day. I wonder if they're happy with the new sounds.
I like to think that somewhere out there, this person is enjoying his "THUMP THUMP" THUMP, THUMP" "THUMP THUMP, THUMP.....THUMP" as their character swings a big metallic bladed weapon around. I wonder if, when they made their complaints, that what we ended up having it replaced with was exactly what they envisioned as the perfect sound effects. Despite how much we complain, someone out there is happy with it.
I hope.
well maybe in 6.1 guys. its beginning of the next saga so it hopefully they do a bunch of overhauls for things, including the sounds. keep this thread alive. amazing how a couple people complained and it got changed originally but when a overwhelming majority complain to get it changed...... silence. lets keep this thread alive so they might finally cave and do it. also leave you thoughts in this threas in the feedback forum.

gonna keep bumping this thread overtime. It might seems stupid for a sound, but it legit ruins a feel of a job that felt amazing at the launch of shadow bringers. Also if your just as butthurt about the sound be sure to comment is this feedback thread here: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...AKER-SOUNDS%21
were gonna get this changed!(yes I know Im being a salty C**NT lol.)
bumpity bump
Its a pity that console players are stuck with the blunt combo sounds, when the ones from 5.0 and the trailer were clearly superior.
Did this question get ignored in the live letter?
unpopular opinion: neither set of sound effects is very good for GNB. The old ones are very tinny and empty, a blade that thick and heavy wouldn't have that metallic ring to it, it should be much lower pitched if it exists at all, and the newer ones with the THWACK sound less empty but are awful in their own way, especially that stock punch sound effect.
They had the gunblade sound effects perfect back in 1999... there's no reason they can't get this right 23 years later.
