Actually, it's still glamourable. Like the Scylla gear and the Riviera Dress, AND the wedding dress and most robes in the game period, the "skirt" is considered a part of the "top". They probably have those leg straps as a separate leg item. (When Scylla came out, I just wanted the skirt and was so sad it HAD to be part of the top ;-; ) Why can't we have them as PIECES and glamour them separately? I mean having that top with pants would also be pretty epic!. or maybe someone would like to make it a bit classier skirt with the patrician's top accompanying it? This is also sad....
I seriously don't get their decision to make the dress all one thing (Or make the dress only for the women >_>). SE is definitely a strange lot..
While I wouldn't be upset if a male version popped up (I sure welcomed previous examples of unisex gear), I believe the designers have better stuff to do than making additional 3D models for dresses to satisfy the vast minority that would actually wear it, just out of principle.
Game development is a matter of budgets and time, and the budget and time is simply better used elsewhere, on equipment that would be actually worn by more people, in my opinion.
Well, SE doesn't know how many people will use it til its actually in the game.
Even then, could you imagine how the game would be if we applied that logic to other areas? Like.. Why should SE make content that's hard in the first place if it only applies to a small percentage of people like Savage mode? Or like Roegadyn women for a more model orientated form of the argument.
It shows that SE is properly dedicated to the fans if they're willing to do things for all fans of the game. Fat trimming models either don't work well long term in being sustainable or the eventual product becomes something a lot lower in quality (Look at various shootman games made on a yearly basis and the niche they're grouped with >.>)
Look suprisingly great on a Roe!
I'd rock a kilt for sure :)
Personally, I don't really care either way. I only posted it here because I managed to snap a screenshot of it while running around the database to see all the new gear before it went down due to traffic. Though, it would have be nice if they locked the male version so that we could have some form of male-specific gear. Oh well. :p
It's not actually bare chest, like the Kirimu coat and level 12 harness, girls get a bra added. Apparently that's easy to do whereas making a flat bodice isn't? When the do it already for Lalafell?
That comparison assumes that the percentage of players playing savage mode or roegadyn females is even remotely comparable with the percentage of players with a male character truly interested in wearing female-only clothing for a relevant amount of their play time (and not just saying so out of principle).
And that's a very farfetched assumption, making for an unfitting comparison.
It's still ultimately a minority, one that SE shouldn't really ignore because it's not being fair to them as paying customers. I understand there's a certain amount of allotted time, but then why bother making outfits that only girl PCs can wear if time is so precious? All it does is upset a section of the fan base, admittedly a small section, but it's still a section.
Exactly what I was thinking, Terrini!
I little bird informed me that this thread was passed on to the JP group (not the JP forums; I already made a thread there). : D
Beautiful original post. Seriously, great job. I wanted to show my support. Thanks for the post :)
Thank you!
The other regions apparently feel the same. OwO b
I've never been more proud of the ffxiv community...
Late here, but thanks for sharing, OP. It looks stunning, and you've done some lovely variations as well. I think it is quite unfair that this outfit is only for females while the male outfit gets adapted for females to wear.
I had always been impressed with how FFXIV was so equitable when it came to sexy/revealing gear, so this is especially disappointing. The message I am getting from SE is, "It is ok for females to have more glamour options than males because we think they look beautiful and sexy in the outfits we designed for males. We won't let males wear the female designs too though because we don't really care about males looking beautiful and sexy."
The pain is real SE. We need clothing equality!
Well that could be because they look gross and creepy instead of beautiful and sexy in female Dress Up? I'm all for more Male Options...but putting a male Roen into something that was clearly aimed to make a Female Miqote/Lala/ etc look darn hot is not the right way...because they look creepy...not sexy.
Subjective opinions are subjective. I think men look quite beautiful and sexy in dresses and other "Feminine" clothes, other other hand I adore women in big bulky suits of armor that makes them look tough and intimidating, does this mean I'm going to be championing for SE to make only dresses for men and only the toughest bulkiest suits of armor for women? No, because other people have different tastes. Keep the armor sets as similar as possible between men and women and make every set unisex, that's the best approach to this.Like.. Lalafell have the exact same body man or woman, why can't male Lalafell wear dresses and such?
Wow, this one looks amazing! Implementing something like this is what they should done.
It's weird because I don't think they have anything against the male characters wearing revealing/sexy gear (look at what's available), I genuinely think it's laziness, which is a shame. They probably think, "eh, not much demand for it, no need to bother", which is disappointing.
SE's reasoning for not making girl outfits unisex literally has nothing to do with their opinions on what men wear (At least that's what they tell us but we've got to go with what they tell us). It's literally SE just being lazy with this point and as consumers we've got to keep SE from being lazy.
This has nothing to do with Sexism or Transphobia.Maybe they just don't want it. Its their Game they make the Rules. Heck you dont even own anything in XIV you only buy the right to play as long Se is fine with it, along these Lines. They could ban you because they dont like the way your true name is called. They may need to refund you but they can do it for all they care.
Thats what YOU think. You dont know why they wont allow you to do so because they never answered a question regarding that topic, as far i know.
Have you considered that the reason why they might not want to do it is sexist/transphobic? That's not unheard of, you know. SE as a corporation is reliant on the consumer to provide feedback and criticisms to make the game to the best of their abilities, this is basic consumer/producer relations. And.. If a company bans someone from a product based on how their name is pronounce or where it's from, there's probably going to be more than just a refund going down. Companies aren't some invulnerable group who dictate anything and everything with regards to their product, you realize this right?
No, if I recall correctly they literally stated something along the lines of "Modifying male sets into unisex ones is easier, hence why we do it. Modifying female sets into unisex ones is more difficult so...", it's listed somewhere in the nearly 70 pages of the thread iirc.

Come on, they have nothing against men being sexy or showing skin or even - gasp - wearing skirts. They could adapt the bustier to a more "masculine" sexy style if they wanted to, but they didn't because LAZINESS/assuming there is no demand.
Hopefully they will realise there IS demand.
What bother me the most is that SE has no problem of using men having feminine behavior or clothing for humor. At least they did give us a good few skirts in this exp. I just think they really need to figure out what they want to give us.
I'd find it pretty immersion breaking if I had to play the game with OP's character wearing that. I cannot take it seriously.
Outfits like my current one are probably pretty immersion breaking *snort* too.
