SMN - Why it is not a very interesting job and not a good upgrade from ACN

Jup I'm probably not lvling an arcanist/ summoner then. If I did I'd probably be very disappointed, so it's either gonna be BM or BRD then.
It just doesn't feel or looks like a summoner, I'm definitely voting for a class revamp because this is unworthy of the name.
Not only that but it just feels out of place and awkward no?
For some od the jobs they took some references from the other final fantasy games, but not so much on ssummoners. They probably wanted to try something new.... and failed pretty hard.

Arcanist is/was fine. Summoner on the other hand got bent too hard to fit an MMORPG and lost its original concept. They could've been so much more creative with it, but Summoner ended up being nothing more than a fan service name/tag to lure people in.

It's just.... sad.

And to all the people who are all "omg old SMN are just summon and done"... anything could work for SMN. They could at least SOMEHOW match the concept of old summoners, or be creative and do something interesting with the pets. Instead, we got garbage pets who are nothing more than a side thing. This class was DoTs first, pet second, simply because they wanted to make both concepts work in the same class and disregarded how important the pet was to SMN and how much everyone wanted a pet oriented class.

This is not a pet oriented class; it's just a DoT caster who happens to have a pet.

I highly doubt that square will revamp the class completely all they need to do is make the pet interact more with the summoner and the summoner needs to rely on them more. Like scholars fairy a scholar without the fairy is a really really gimped scholar.

Scholars say that with their fairies they feel like a team.

You said it yourself. Anything could work, and they did something unique compared to other FFs.

Just like the leap from Pre-FF10 to post-FF10.

My pet contributing ~20-30% of my DPS makes me feel like a team with it.

Except I specifically stated that it should be pet-oriented... and it's not. You only do a couple things with your pet on large cooldowns; the majority of his DPS is auto attacks.

Except all that DPS (which is still very little, btw, as a SMN is supposed to do the majority or all of its DPS from the summon) is from auto attacks, and has absolutely no gameplay with it. You tell it to attack and forget about it, and press cooldowns when they're up.

The problem is that the gameplay is not oriented around the summon. Your rotation has nothing to do with the pet at all besides pressing his cooldowns.
