The problem with the mentor system

I guess we all should be happy you never met someone worthy of BL in your eyes.
But here's the thing — people BL others for different reasons. I personally don't BL RMT cuz it's a waste of space and after a report I probably won't see them the other day. But I don't spend most of my time in City States, so their spam doesn't affect me.
However I do BL bullies, trolls and people so proud about their DPS they fail mechanics and wipe the group, because all of that can affect my experience with the game later on. Unfortunately for me, BL doesn't prevent me from seeing those people again, and unlike RTM, reports on that matter doesn't do much. It's not the matter of how much of those kind of players I've met, it's the fact that I did and I would like not to ever again. See the difference?

Wasn't one of the old requirements having cleared like 500 runs of instanced content? People got around that by just spamming story mode Ifrit. I can see this sort of thing happening again if they ever did something like this.

It beats the player commendation requirement considering it's a system that absentmindedly benefits healers and tanks and mostly ignores dps players, no matter how good they are.

Good tanking and healing is very easy to notice, dps only get noticed when things don't die fast enough or someone looks at their parser and sees one of the dps pulling ridiculous numbers, or in one-off situations where something happens like in Hades normal where everyone except 1 or 2 people gets hit by life in captivity and they have to watch helplessly as only 2 people are left to break them out.

Heck a lot of people have admitted on here that they just comm the healer/tank and for a dps to get a commendation they have to do something really noticeable like rezzing half the raid or having everyone die and then they finish off the boss themselves.

I can confirm when I play my red mage, save multiple people with heals, waste all my MP getting people up, etc. etc. I get no commendations. So just don't bother if commendations are your purpose. I get way more commendations sitting there half asleep spamming 1.

I mean, the changes already helped weed out the people in it purely for the crown since so many of those sorts have been spotted asking for comms in party chat. And honestly regardless of what you play it's not that hard to amass comms; plenty of people admit to giving the comm to their fellow DPS because they specifically know they don't get them that often. I dunno how much better having people waving crowns around from spamming speedruns of old dungeons dozens of times would be an improvement in the quality of mentors over the comms.

Yep. As far as I know, when SE raised the number of recommendations, many lost their mentor status.

Indeed. Every time when good people meet us, they turn into monsters for some reason. This is kinda dark ancient curse.

It sounds as strange as: "I was never beaten, and I did not contact the police. If you were beaten and you need to contact the police, then something is wrong with you".
