I think Paladin is far too strong for group content. No job should be able to provide heals, group damage mitigation, self damage mitigation, and also deal damage. It would be best for the health of the game to completely exclude all Paladins from raid content.

In exchange, you may now only participate in an Ul'Dah gladiator tournament for your endgame activity.

Is this fair?

I can see where the developers are coming from with blocking BLU from the Duty Finder. A run starts and the poor BLU doesn't have Bad Breath because they have shitty luck in farming morbols (another lol mechanic), it'll probably be an insta kick. Heck, that was the example Yoshi-p gave during the live letter.

I'll take a look when it's actually in the game before making any crazy judgements however.

I think the skill acquisition argument is poorly thought-out.

If a Gladiator hasn't done the job quest for his Paladin soul stone, he'd probably be kicked from a dungeon like Cutter's Cry. Should Gladiator be kept from party content?

A Warrior joins The Vault but hasn't done his 50-56 quests. It's rather likely that he'd be kicked. Ban from party content?

Make spell acquisition as much of an investment of time and effort as job quests, and this argument falls apart pretty quickly. Every player in the game, regardless of job, can barely skate by and do the bare minimum and they can still be kicked. Does that genuinely mean their job should be kept from raids?

But blue magic acquisition isnt as easy as job quests, its a challenge in its own right.
Its what blue mage has always been about and is exactly what people enjoyed about blue mage in XI.
The fun is in acquiring the skills, not in buying a jump potion then spamming omega 500 times for the next 3 months.

That is a good reason for keeping them out of DF in my opinion as well but, that's more because of the learning mechanic as it is now. Which raises the question as to why. Why make the Learning system work on RNG or make it so you "rarely" learn skills as they said. Traditionally, and it was clear that is they were going for a traditional feel for BLU, there was no randomness in learning the spell if they either saw it or got hit by it. If you learned spells 100% of the time I don't think it would be that big of a problem

I too will hold off on having any strong opinions until I get to actually see it implemented.

Not to mention the only job on the tank role that doesn't use its gauge for offensive abilities. Instead, though, for a block. A single block. For 50 gauge.

That was XI's Blue Mage, a job which I utterly adored and consider my favorite MMO job ever. In fact, I still play XI and still love its version of Blue Mage.

But it doesn't have to be 14's Blue Mage.

Spell hunting and job quests are very similar at their core. "Travel to this destination, accomplish your objective, be rewarded for your time with an increase to your job's power." Allow the two to be functionally equivalent and there's no excuse to not have your spells. We aren't okay with people skimping on their job quests, but we don't keep the job itself from content.

Yeah. No way are they balancing 49 moves and more to come. People wanted something different and fresh and we got BLU exactly how its portrayed in past games. On the other hand ;evel 50 is really low and I'm curious to know what content they expect people to be doing at that level. If nothing else seeing people on the overworld and the community figuring out where to learn what will be fun for the first few weeks.

I love Blue Mage. I used one on my party for every final fantasy that would allow it. I've Cosplayed Blue Mage at Comicon. Not being allowed to multiplayer content in this multiplayer game is heartbreaking to me. Yes i know, premades, premades don't help me do my daily roulletes, or 24 man runs, or normal mode raids. My dream idea for BLU was you would use learn to get all your abilities, then you could use it content, my niche dream was it could learn so many abilities itd have a tank, heal and dps spec, but again with set rotations, that you learned from respective solo duties and overworld enemies. What we have instead is Gimmick content, which could be fun, I don't know, but if i wanted a solo experience with blue mage, or just a solo experience in general, I wouldnt be playing an MMO

Not only is it not fair, it's not accurate. PLD might be too strong, and that might be why DRK is so unpopular, however having support kits for a tank or healer is a good thing, and all tanks should be balanced around utility and damage, making them all equal.

BLU is nothing like PLD, but maybe if it was a tank, then it could use all of its abilities in a relevant way (particularly mighty guard). That would still leave the question of how it obtains abilities though, because if not through fighting monsters, then BLU has no iconic identity.

You can change BLU to fit the mould of XIV, but it wouldn't be BLU and people would complain that it's not BLU, or you could have BLU as a limited job and keep it how BLU is supposed to be, these are two choices, and both would appeal to different players, they happened to choose this way.

Saying that making BLU a limited job is wrong is like saying that making SAM a DPS instead of a tank is wrong.
