This is my point of twisting words, either things are going over your head or your deliberately missing the point. Hell some of what I read between your conversation was you literally putting words in his mouth, making a fair amount of assumptions, mostly foolish and adding little personal quips, one such about him saying the egi is a secondary concern and not to use it. (You in fact said something similar to me in an earlier post when I brought up the lack of presence the egis has on the battlefield) I can accept some are more inclined at being able to pick up what people mean to say, but your responses seem oftentimes borderline trollish.Quote:
Twisting words =/= Taking them for what they are. If you're trying to get a point across, get it across, especially when it comes to text based discussions on forums. Don't just dance around the issue with poor word choices and examples that have nothing to do with the problem at hand. The basis of his speech was how a SMN was not a SMN using some convoluted historical facts and aesthetics, not about game play tweaks and theories which is what should be discussed and is more important.
To sum it up he said that a SMN, traditional or otherwise has pet interaction, be it a one time burst or full/partial control. XIV SMN only slightly resembles this currently with the abilities having near nothing tied to SMN or the art of Summoning and besides egis and telling them to move occasionally, there isn't any worthwhile interaction. Bahamut trance will in essence be the one time burst, which he acknowledges is a step in the right direction to a more Legitimate and/or Traditional SMN and notes that egi interaction should be greater not a secondary concern to once again get a more legit feel of being a SMN, or at the very least a Pet Job. He may not have added anything specific but his thoughts were certainly aiming towards gameplay tweaks with having possible revision of egis abilities.
I also would most certainly hop on the bandwagon for better aesthetics for egis, nothing over the top of course, but this isn't going to make or break the job for me.
Yes I know exactly what you meant by 'juggling' and this is not that. SMN and pet management is more akin to tossing a ball from one hand and back which could hardly be compared to juggling (Move from danger/attack again), which again the chances you even need to move it have been vastly reduced. If one is constantly having to worry about moving their pet, the party is terrible or their doing something wrong.Quote:
Juggling as in you need to manage it or it dies (Not helped by the fact pets are terrible at damage soaking). While I agree there could be more emphasis on interaction, it is clear thus far that they are not going that direction with the new skills being added in HW. Granted there were more pressing issues to be addressed with burst and dot/pet scaling, but seeing as it hasn't even been mentioned, I doubt we'll see anything to the effect of XI's pet management.
I'm glad we agree on pet interaction though I of course hoped that it would of been of addressed in some form. HW has yet to release so will see if it was touched at all.
I disagree, many forgo SMN for BLMs because they, when played at equal skill levels will out DPS us, both in single and AoE Damage thanks partially to the nature of DoTs. The only time we have something of an edge is when adds NEED to be spread out. Since BLM is more effective, brings unique utility and SCH has access to Super Virus, there is little incentive to not take a BLM over SMN. While this has hardly affected me personally, it still holds truth. The fact that another class has it makes mine a whole lot less important, considering its needed but not enough to justify having two on hand and my Caster Counterpart is currently greater at DPS then myself. You'd be hard pressed to not have a SCH in 8man content currently so that Super Virus role is always filled. I again am repeating myself but I feel I must reiterate that E4E is on all mages lessening the impact of SMNs E4E to little importance and our battle res isn't all that special when death is heavily penalized in endgame.Quote:
SMN really has no more utility than other mages and will do more on anything not saturated with trash adds. While SCH does have the upgrades virus as well, there are times where healing is pressured to the point that you have to do it yourself. Just because another class has the ability doesn't make it any less useful, there IS a reason you have it after all. There really isn't more interaction you could add to the pets currently (Without more skills obviously) outside of making Titan useful as Garuda and Ifrit already have their uses (Make him cover someone, least someone will actually use him then).
And the buff to SpS does give "oomph" since dots scale poorly, they always have.
Although the readily available burst damage is being addressed I still feel that a revision to pet abilities is justified. Revise the current ones since many do not see use anyway, additional ones do not need to be added. I gave one small example of ifrit's radiant shield in an earlier post that would add a small bit of utility without being job/game breaking. That titan cover idea also sounds like a better trade off then the stun it currently has.
Lastly, I never said that the buff would not give oomph to the dots/pet, I was correcting you on the reason it was buffed, being that the weight of SpS is supremely outclassed by crit and det, which made it a literal trash stat for SMN.
Allow me to quote myself...Quote:
To add to this, we are getting a new Healer AST, which will not have access to Supervirus and Enhanced EFE. The chance of not having a SCH in the party is greater, which means these SMN tools get stronger by default.

HW is on the horizon, so we may yet see something that brings added utility to hopefully the pets and by extension the SMN. I for one hope so. Heck, if the WHM/AST setup becomes popular perhaps SMNs Super Virus will be relevant.
Isn't mega flare supposed to be a ball of energy or something? This seems more like ragnarok from kingdom Hearts. :P But it's still pretty cool.

Yea what, where is my laser beam?
it's gigaflare not mega
Its all the same to me.
And Nael Deus Darnus is closer to Bahamut in appearance than us just getting wings. Megaflare also makes the most sense (it's more iconic than Gigaflare, too).
