Not df but I have a mighty need to share it anyways:
When you spend hours upon hours in solo PotD and get there solo without wipes and just as you pulled the boss your internet connection gives you the stinky finger.
I don't even want to log back in now >.>
Working towards Zenith phase of my relic and queued up for Amdapor Keep as SCH. I say hello and it is my first time, and no one says anything, and immediately think to myself, "It's going to be one of those runs." Sure enough it was, and the tank decides to pull every single mob all the way to the first boss. I am not kidding. All of them. Do these kind of pulls happen later in the game? I couldn't understand why someone, knowing their healer is new to the instance, would leeroy the whole effing dungeon.
Anywho, despite this large pull and the ensuing wipe, I almost healed through it. I rezzed the tank once during the pull, and could not rezz him again as swiftcast was down and I had aggro. I was using Selene, and if I had Eos, we probably would have actually made it. After the wipe, I asked him to slow it down a little and brought out Eos. He said 'Ok' before proceeded to leeroy again, but now I was more ready for it, and sprinted to keep up and healed through his large pulls. No DPS from me though until the boss fights.
Anywho. Just a little frustrated right now, and decided to post this funny vid:
Why your healer hates you

Queue into a trial with 2 new players. One pug healer drops party immediately. New players exit cutscene, gate drops, dragoon IMMEDIATELY jumps on the boss and pulls. -_-
Big pulls are fairly common later on. That's still a massive pull though...
Got Crysalis for trial roulette on my PLD. Our monk proceeded, after we got buffs, to shoulder tackle before I could grab aggro (instant buffs were up I moved and he just pounced before I could get in shield lob range). I let him tank and die before provoking and went on our way. Had a wipe due to I think the DRG not knowing to LB the tear... but next pull the monk waited :D
First of all, I am like the world's worst BLM, but I'm trying to get her to 60, so I'm just doing content with her whenever I can.
Apologies to anyone who gets my BLM in a duty... orz
Anyways, FC mate was leveling an alt, and he's reached Dzemael, so we queue in together (he's on WAR, and I'm on my terrible BLM).
This healer.
The answer to everything: REGEN!
Tank is dying? REGEN!
DPS take 100 damage? REGEN!
DPS are taking 0 damage? REGEN!
Nothing is happening at all? REGEN!
Also, used Holy on bosses.
I'm done.
Reminds of the Chrysalis run I had on my alt a week ago... As a WHM main, it made me die a little on the inside.

To be fair, normal mode AK is balanced to be done in ilvl 50-60 gear.
Nowadays even just doing your jobquests you get gear that puts you way beyond the requirements for said dungeon,
so large pulls are the norm since it is really hard to die there, even with the ilvl sync set to "only" 110.
Personally, I find AK fun exactly because of the giant pulls that are possible there :)
(later dungeons usually have lots and lots of walls that stop progress until every tiny group of monsters got beaten by themselves because SE hates speedruns)
But I can see how that would be overwhelming for a healer who is new to the dungeon.
Don't be frustrated, try to think of how enjoyable it is to actually be forced to focus on healing for once and do everything in your power to keep the group alive ^-^
I think I've done about 3-4 duties this week as SCH and ended up with ASTs using Noct who refuse to switch sects,
That's why ASTs have two sects, to avoid this situation. The worst part is when the boss is about to do raid-wide damage, you get a massive crit Adlo, deploy it to the whole party, and the AST decides "HEY, NOW'S A GREAT TIME TO AOE SHIELD!" Literally the worst feeling and you just sit there like:

Believe me, I really enjoy having my limits put to the test and having to go into healer-berserk mode to prevent a wipe. I often tell tanks to pull large, especially in instances I am familiar with. I was just frustrated at the lack of communication, especially when I am trying to communicate. But I walked away from this PUG happy with my ability to adapt to my group. I can't imagine pulls getting any larger than those one haha!
If only. I like going into 50 dungeons on my casters to AOE nuke All The Things⢠on the big pulls... unfortunately, these past few weeks I keep getting new tanks who pull one or two, maybe three, monsters at a time.
Literally the whole dungeon I'm like

I honestly cannot decide what's worse, an ice mage or a Fire III mage. I'm just going to tentatively say Fire III mage, because when I encountered one in Brayflox yesterday, I honestly felt like my soul was dying again.
EDIT: Also, in Wiping Shitty when you have 3 BRDs, and more caster DPS than you can swing a dead cat at, and there is no Foe Requiem. And when the BRD tries to claim they've been using it this whole time when their MP has not moved one iota except for when they died. Repeatedly. Maybe I should be concerned that I no longer expect or even care if a BRD sings Foe Requiem or not. DRKs won't use Darkside, the sky is blue, NINs think Huton and poisons are a myth, roses are red, and BRDs will never ever sing Foe Requiem no matter how much it would help.
eyes of the creator ^^ going in as sch , both tanks almost dieing , adds die slow , some people stand with MT and get hit , everyone has a dot >.> i burn through all my stuff to keep both tanks and group alive :P verly lucky for me that i had a very supportive whm in teh group wich casts cure 2 like every 20 sec :P /clap
Yay!! Two full pages without the "tank raise" argument!
I've finally decided to give a healer role another chance so I've elected to go the route of PotD for AST. Become more comfortable with it before I go into actual dungeons. So I que into floor 21 or 31 and end up with a machinist and two other healers, both white mages. I don't know how it is for everyone else but to have three healers, aside from myself being one, has never happened to me before and everyone shared their amusement of it when we saw the party set-up. lol. Then comes floor 22 (or 32) and we've already cleared up the map but for some reason the Machinist's hp is going down fast, so I went to him as quickly as possible. Turns out a Mimic is biting his butt pretty hard and ends up killing him. Thankfully one of the other white mages is behind me so I take this opportunity to raise him aaand then that white mage dies, the machinist dies too fast where my healing doesn't matter, then kills me, and finally the other white mage. It all happened so fast that I still can't stop giggling at it.
Lesson learned: Mimics are most definitely evil. xD
Just something really frustrating.
Queued up for A10. It was a good run overall, except for the other Tank. I'm not sure exactly how, but he died pretty early on in the fight. Given the rate his HP shot down, and that he then immediately returned rather than getting res'd, I can only imagine he killed himself for a carry.
And of course he got the piece of loot that I wanted too.
Some people...
In my experience, I always get queued with others of my role. I queue as dps, dps for miles. I queue as tank, I've never known how many players play tanks. Healer? At least 3/4 of the group are green. And it irritates me, because I know there are dps only groups out there that could use a healer.
AST is one of the few classes I don't have leveled yet, so Selli said, "Let's run trials and I'll show you how I AST."
We get Garuda HM, which is one of my least favorite trials (pre-nerf Nexus PTSD), and we have a majority of new people as well. But I'm on DPS, Selli is on healer, she's gonna feed me cards, so I was confident we would be fine.
Except, Selli didn't use a single card. She would Draw, get a Ewer/Spire, Redraw, get Bole (or Spire/Ewer), and Royal Road/Discard... the whole run. All 8 minutes of it. If I could bottle all the salt coming out of her during that Garuda HM, we'd have enough salt to shut down the largest salt mine in the world. And I learned that you AST by not using cards at all. :^)
Was playing my still sproutling Alt earlier and decided to try to mess around and do PotD. Now, I remember trying it before on said character, but I had 0/0 and didn't have save data, so i thought it was odd. get to floor 5 and cutscene "oh great, im starting over" I say to myself.
Honestly? not too bad, i got some flares and brightens so I was able to squeak by all the floor requirements.... unless they removed those? I couldnt be asked to read every PotD change from the patch...
Anyway, I got armor screwed as a tank, and I decided "I'm a level 30 something tank with no armor, lets go tank floor 51-60".
Get in there with a healer, BRD, SMN, and myself as a tank.
Things... did not go well. I couldn't hold aggro and I swear the SMN was trolling or grieving or something. I think they could have handled solo...maybe? MAAAYBE? but they would run off and pull like 8 or 9 things by themselves. and run them back to the rest of us. well it got to the point where i had to afk for ~2 minutes because i had a semi-important phone call. i tell the group and the BRD and CNJ respond and the SMN is off... doing their thing.
so i get back and everyone is dead and the smn is giving me crap about how sproutling tanks are the worst thing to ever happen to the game and yada yada. i shrug it off, the BRD coming to my defense, but regardless i use raise on everyone and the first thing SMN does? with half health and weakness? pull the same pack that killed them all....... AND sent their ifrit off to pull another pack. which gets them all killed again. I saw the wipe coming, focused on 2 things, killed them and backed off to avoid getting into combat again and raise them again. yknow. saving from TWO wipes now.
Smn chimes in about how i didnt tank anything and how i'm worthless. i have my snarky retort "and my lack of ability is stopping wipes from your overability". now they all have half health and brink of death.
....same pull.
"the heck is wrong with this guy?" rinse repeat. this time i raise the BRD and CNJ, and ask the SMN why they are pulling at half health and brink of death. suddenly they go silent.
anyway, after all that i sit the other 2 down for the 2 minutes, wipe brink of death and raise the SMN (no, i didn't just grief him. i was waiting for a response and they wouldnt give me one... so to save the group, i waited). things went...... better after that. the only real terrible thing was my poor aether-starved self had no chance in the 7 hells to hold emnity off a player with effectively 60 levels on me... so the boss was... fun.
Got 2 comms. wonder who the other one went to.
Are sproutlings usually treated so poorly later on in floors? I havent really seen such animosity in PotD before...
I've encountered a lot of people acting like that on the later PotD floors. A few days ago when I was running as Scholar, one dude was so crappy the tank and I both ended up reporting him. Like at one point the tank and the other dps hit 2 lure traps. His response to that was to use the rage pom, walk into the other direction, and do absolutely nothing to help the tank, other dps, and I take the mob down. Then when we managed to kill everything he started saying stuff like "didn't want to ruin your fun" and acting disingenuous about what he did. It got much worse from there, the whole thing was a mess and the whole reason he was acting like that was because he didn't like how slow we were going at the start.
1 BRD, 3 BLMs, in Titan HM. Foe Requiem? PERISH THE THOUGHT. The MT even actively encouraged the BRD not to sing when I mentioned my "hopes" for Foe Requiem. Something about the BRD not succumbing to peer pressure.
Why do I even bother? WHY?
It's shit like this, in addition to that lovely run of Sohm Al as DRK where a NIN "buffed" me with Smokescreen, that really drives home the point of why we can't have nice things.
Wall of text, but this confirms I really should not queue up for roulettes right before I go to bed, even if I'm playing with friends. The randoms we end up with are usually not worth it.
Yesterday I had my weirdest run of Castrum Meridianum ever. Aside from the ridiculously long queue time, which already got to me since I *really* wanted to get it over with (and I dislike healing large groups), the party we ended up with...
To note, I went in as Astro (which I'm leveling and was looking forward to using Noct with), and the 2 friends that joined went in with Ninja and Bard. We ended up with: Warrior, Paladin, Scholar (T_T), another Bard and a Machinist.
What followed wasn't exactly a trainwreck, but I swear to god half the party didn't even know what to do! Aside from only having one confirmed new player (the second bard), it sure felt like the tanks and the other healer were new as well (which is odd since one of the tanks had the 'Finder of False Gods' title, which I'm pretty sure you get from EX Primal clears).
First, all the tanks did at the start was aggro the initial group of enemies. By initial, I mean aggro the very tiny group at the start, not even bothering pulling enemies away from the searchlights. 'Ok', I thought. 'If you aren't comfortable with those kinds of pulls I understand' and just healed. But, people were ignoring the serchlights, aside from my friends. I didn't notice it at first until my friends pointed it out to me. First boss went fine but then again it's really hard to screw up there (though oddly enough I could not dps as much as I'd liked).
Next part, tanks did incredibly small pulls as well. While I understand that our party set-up at the moment didn't really have *that* good AoE damage, a Scholar, 2 Bards and a Machinist should've been able to burn through the mobs like it was nothing. That's not the best part though. The explosive pick-ups were ignored, and the tanks went straight to the boss room without blowing up the pipes. Me and my friends were actively telling the group they were going the wrong way, but it still took them a good minute to realize it. And because we missed one explosive, my Bard friend went to pick it up while unintentionally pulling a few mobs, which me, my friend and the Machinist killed.
Suddenly, the Scholar pipes up about us not being with the main group, saying we were afk. I nearly snapped, because I was tired and getting really annoyed with the way the run was going. I told her we were killing mobs because people forgot to pick up explosives. She retorts with 'O rly? Why didn't your HP drop then?'. I put her in her place immediately by saying I have regens, and that's why we weren't in any danger whatsoever. If you want to know why she complained, just go to the end of my post.
So then we have the second boss. Everything was fine until the addtional mob spawns, where somehow, even with BOTH TANKS IN TANK STANCE, the tanks couldn't hold aggro against my regens, so I was forced to kite. Thankfull my regens were good enough to keep me alive, but I barely had any time to use card buffs because I was too focused on running.
The trash pulls up to the third boss were questionable as well, with barely anyone on the cannons and stopping the pull halfway to the second set of cannons. 3rd boss was ok, but there's very little to screw up there and the final part was relatively ok too (still, barely anyone were using cannons, and tanks weren't pulling them back).
Then we get Magitek Armor Livia. No one is coordinating (but I'm used to that) but it ended up causing cannons to die. Now, I know they respawn, but this was just plain stupid. So the fight took longer than was needed, not to mention the tanks insisting on working their aggro combo on Livia while the fight has no solid aggro.
Phase shift to the proper Livia fight, I had to point out to the Scholar to resummon their fairy (why they even get released has always been weird to me). The fight was otherwise clean. I was glad to leave the instance though.
I may sound nitpicky, but a run that should last about 15-20mins depending on party setup, took over 30 mins to complete.
Addendum:
My bard friend was running a parser (I know, I know), and pointed out to me that my healing output was more than the Scholar's and her fairy's combined, as well as my DPS! I only managed to throw in a Combust/Combust 2 here and there because I was scared what would happen otherwise, but the Scholar was *obviously* slacking. I guess that explains why she was bitching about afk people, because she actually had to work for once.
We didn't kick him for that. It was close to the end of the dungeon and I personally decided to just ignore him.
But then we get to the floor 80 boss and he decided it'd be cute to do absolutely no DPS or support (he was a bard). He only moved to avoid AoEs, to get into proximity of my AoE heals, and to mock us. He didn't do anything to contribute at all until the boss was at half HP, the MCH had died, and I got killed after getting caught in a tornado trying to get over to the MCH. Once the boss was dead he starting saying stuff like "I didn't help because I just wanted to see the pros in action". I told him to eff off and left, but then I proceeded to 81 and lo and behold dude was in my party again going "lol who's gonna carry you this time?". Thankfully the tank from before was also there and that's when we kicked and reported him.
It was fun after that, we bonded. Good times.
Ex Roulette with a bunch of Germans who didn't say a single word, probably queued up together.
Gubal Hard mode, final boss.
I don't know what exactly happened, but somehow, our tank died. Mr. Owl on a chair fixates on me, fine, I can take a few hits as Bard.
Healer resurrects the tank, but they can't seem to regain aggro.
I'm used to them using Provoke in such cases so I happily continue shooting my arrows all over the place. Guess what happens.
I die and the tank regains aggro.
Then, after I get resurrected, healer doesn't bother to heal me even though the Owl was preparing its lightning attack, Second Wind was on CD. I die again.
Eventually, we manage to beat the boss and I take a look at the Dank Knight's search info.
Yep, no Gladiator. No Provoke.
I try to remind them that Provoke is a pretty useful skill but they don't wanna hear that and leave the duty.
Oh, well.
This is because they placed the fairy. When the phase shift happens, you're moved back to the entrance of the arena and the fairy unsummons because it is now out of range. This only happens in a few of the older fights (Ultima/Lahabrea is another that I can think of right off the top of my head). It could also be fixed by extending the range of pets to at least cover the size of an arena, or teleporting pets with the owners.
Not always. In Castrum at that point the fairy gets automatically unsummoned even if it wasn't placed. In Praetorium it happens again but I can't recall when. It's not at the lift or magitek stage, it's at some point between bosses. You're probably right, Ultima also comes to my mind now.
Trial Roulette pops with a Time Elapsed, 9 times out of 10 it's Nidhogg. Not surprised when I was right. Fill in had a couple rage quitters after first wipe, we have a healer in there who had i200 gear and 12k health. Seemed shaky but I've dealt with worse. The second tankspot finally fills and we get into it. It was a bit messy at first, that healer dies I think to the fly by fire at some point, and then a couple others die by other stuff( I ate a cleave while in third phase, lol whoops) until we wipe from Ahk Morn. The tank that filled throws a fit about the healer, and claims either kick them or kick her. Guy was in for his clear, this was story stuff trying to clear, yeah out of date gear but everyone else had good shit on them and we pushed dps very well so I was against it, the others were too. So the tank just sits in the back and goes afk, until they decide to pull Nid while we were discussing and then go back to sitting down. After THAT tank continues shitting on the healer, calling THEM a troll, which the irony was too strong. Eventually just kick them, congrats to them they won by being a little shit, and new tanks gets in and we proceed. Last run nobody died, even the 12k healer who the other tank thought was just SUCH a hindrance kept alive and was rolling mechanics. Congrats on your clear friend, and thank you to everyone else in that group, did a great job.
P.S. The tank pitching a fit was a MENTOR. Just thought I'd put that out. Though I'm certain it's just for the mount or maybe the fancy icon, people are ridiculous. Really wish there was a way to deny or revoke people's mentor status, lol.
Be the Warrior. Throw away all your CDs and Maim off hotbar. Pull big. Hold onto your dear Abandon/Wrath stacks like you're a Monk or something.
I've just finished my 3rd encounter with tank like this in ONE day. I feel like there's new tank meta and I'm missing something.
VA run on my WHM, SCH never DPSd... They tossed out a shield and physick here and there, otherwise I forgot we had another healer in the party... Our DRG and PLD also didn't know/care you can stun the adds on the last boss to kill the AoE (I had to do it via holy).
Though, my party ended up with 4 bards lol. Was funny to watch.
it seems we get the worse of the worse in POTD parties these days
Your stories are all too familiar with mine.
Especially with folks who do nothing but run around.
Came back to the game a couple weeks ago and went to check out the new POTD stuff. I noticed during runs that the new Intuition pomander buffs seemed to be permanent, since we kept one for an entire run (no cursed hoard in sight it seems). So I got into a habit of just burning extra ones for no reason. Nobody was saying anything, so I figured it was cool.
Get into a group with 2 mentors. And I do this again. One of them freaks the hell out and yells at me. I don't understand what the deal is, and reply with 'chill, they're permanent'.
Next thing I know I'm booted from the group. It was sure nice of those mentors to explain what I was doing wrong. And I didn't know the iron bags were so vital to be worth kicking someone over either.
*shrug* at least I am wiser on the subject now, so I won't trample on people's hoard drops accidentally.
No need to apologize or feel bad at all! It was just one of those "oh cool I recognize that name" moments for me. I actually do more lurking than posting here anyway, so it's not like I'd expect anyone to know who I am. Especially those times I really DON'T want anyone to know who I am. XD
Had an interesting run of Gubal Hard in Expert with two FC mates. The healer we got through DF apparently didn't understand the Ferrofluid mechanic, yet was telling us how it works... just as she got pulled and pushed into the fire AoE. Whoops. =P
They're not permanent. They just last until you find a hoard - thats the way they have always been. I probably would have assumed you were trolling and kicked you too if you didn't stop after being asked the first time, but I would have asked nicely the first time.
