FFXI had that final fantasy feeling.

I never felt attached to my characters in wow
i tried and tried to get into the story and blizzard just failed to do it.

I like RPGS with a story that grabs you and envolves you. FFXI did that in a marvelous way. Dont tell me you guys dont have awesome memories of your zilart missions, cop missions etc etc? That for me is what final fantasy is all about.

Even in crappy version 1.0. the story and cs were amazing.

lol.. i dont hate WoW.... i had some good times playing it. I just realized that over time a game like FFXI was more appealing to me. also forgot to mention that I also tried playing Lotro, aion and tera.

In some way or another.. All MMO's copy off of other MMO's in some way or form. Some not nearly as much as others, but Copying is there. if you let a little "wow" kill your mood for FFXIV, then good luck finding an MMO that doesn't. Not many out there. At least in my point of view.

Agreed! That is why I sad I was hoping for something in between! A game that feels like a final fantasy. Rift, the time I was playing it, ever really got my attention. On the other side, I still have great memories of my FFXI missions. In some way v1.0 also had that feeling despite all of its flaws.

LOL at all the people screaming "WoW clone" because the game seems to have similar colors to some areas in WoW.

Seriously, people who claim to hate or dislike WoW or don't want anything similar to WoW in another game are ironically the ones who mention the Thal-damned game all the time. If you play it on a computer, it's a WoW clone. If you control it with a mouse and keyboard, it's a WoW clone. If it has the color purple in it, it's a WoW clone. If you pay a monthly fee for it, it's a WoW clone. If you don't pay a monthly fee for it, it's a free WoW clone. If you happen to level up in the game, it's a WoW clone. If you can use magic in the game, it's a WoW clone. If it has any of the same letters in it's title that "World of Warcraft" has in it's title, it's a WoW clone.

Wanna know why WoW won't die? BECAUSE NOOBS WHO CLAIM TO "HATE" IT KEEP BRINGING IT UP, THAT'S WHY. Truth be told, as soon as I saw the screenshot, I was ready to type "In B4 WoW clone whining begins!", but I was already too late. They work fast, faster than the speed of light. lol WoW will never die. It will always be a household name, because people won't shut up about it. Especially people who hate it.

I dislike WoW, but There are some things I would love from the game into FFXIV! Example being the UI system, WoW's UI is one of the best out there and putting that into FFXIV won't affect the Story/Music/Areas etc at all. Not even in the slightest.

I don't call things like "WoW-clone" because my term of Clone varies from how others see the word clone. ( But I won't get into that lol). In anyrate, based on Alpha players reactions ( I wasn't one of them just so you know), it seems like ARR is going to be awesome, but it's still a long road ahead. So lets continue to give SE our support for a game we want to succeed! :D

Don't judge a book by its cover, and I too saw LIVE alpha footage, and I didn't feel the "wowish" graphics, I thought they were spectacular.

Yes, I mentioned that. Some of the fights in wow were awesome and very very dynamic unlike in 11. I guess I am just a a bit concerned. Rift for example, look promising, but I never really got convinced. I do hope that ARR becomes awesome and unique.

There's no reason to blame that it's not XI-2 and hell I prefer to see something is completely new and not copying BCNM/SEA/SKY/ZNM/etc since FFXI is designed mostly for 56Kbps users back in 2002 with PS2 limitations.

Well, it's just one person so far. Give it a minute. And this isn't the only time people have called this game a WoW clone. I mean, people just throw those words around. I wish those words were outlawed, so anyone who said those words together were drawn and quartered.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw that picture was. What is going on in that monitor?

I was actually interested in finding out what kind of content Rukkirii was playing. WoW never crossed my mind until I kept reading the pages of this thread lol.

Excuse me, but i just DONT THROW words out there. I am giving an opinion and i have played games like WoW and ffxi among others. The Fact that some of you cant stand a different point of view is another thing.

I am very interested and hoping that ARR becomes the game we all want it to be. Learn to accept that others are not blind fanboys like some of you are.

Yeah it looks a lot like WoW in that pic, it was also my impression. And I'm not saying it's a good thing or a bad thing!

I don't have a problem with people with different opinions at all. I'm just sick of people who are looking for any and everything they can find in a game that's similar to WoW so they can have a reason to throw (yes, throw) the words "WoW clone" into a thread. And if being tired of hearing the same unfounded judgmental crap over and over makes me a "blind fangirl", so be it.

You have the right to give your opinion. Now I'm going to give mine. The game does not look like a WoW clone to me at all. It happens to have the color purple in it. So what? If that's all it takes to make a game a WoW clone, then I guess nearly every game out there (including Call of Duty and Tetris) are also WoW clones. Now, that's my $0.02.

True, they can only whine about bugs and whatnot because if you know they keep whining for wrong reasons like comparing it to FFXI then there's no possible for the dev team to change that since our opinions are different.

The best way is to accept the game with little changes, otherwise they better quit the game if they can't accept it. However, they can complain about the difficulty and not a time sink like camping a NM for hours is worth your time because no one cares about how amazing your gear is.

By Wow clone i mean a game that plays, interacts looks and feels like World Of Warcraft. Rift being the most perfect example. I am not saying it JUST because of that single picture posted a few posts above, but from videos, screenshots and alpha footage that I have seen.

I have been a loyal final fantasy fan, and all i want is for this game to keep true to its roots.

Notice how it's only the people jumping to attack the ones who brought up the comparisons saying it's a bad thing? No one said it was good/bad, it's an observation. While the MMO community wants something different for once, when you see something with that much saturation you generally veer toward MMOs with that style of graphical direction, which is generally WoW or it's 'clones'.

Honestly, I'm more concerned with ARR becoming a questhub MMO. I've never played one I didn't despise, the most recent being Tera, and everything I've seen of ARR has given me that vibe

Plus, with the new combat system, the game feels nothing like XIV. Being a fan of the old deliberate and weighted style, ARR's pace feels nothing like what I've come to expect (And love) from a FF MMO

I believe it's perfectly reasonable for people to be on edge; these are characters we've poured years into, suddenly being ripped out and placed in a game we may find we don't like
