But it's not your job to pull as a WHM in the first place...
I am well aware it isn't my job to pull. But after standing there for 2 minutes with 7/8 of the party, I didn't know why we were waiting in a DF group. No one said anything. So I figured neither of the tanks wanted to MT/pull, since that does happen every once in a while.
After nearly an hour in the first group and another 40 minutes in the second group, I wasn't exactly overflowing with patience. It was my last roulette of the day and I was planning on having it done so I had an hour and a half to get laundry on before I went to work since I wouldn't be home before maintenance.
[EDIT] I'm not saying I'm the saint of the situation. I wanted to get things done so I was impatient, however, no one said anything at all about wanting to do things at a slower pace until I was kicked. I simply treated it like any other DF run. Had they let me known at the start of the dungeon or after the first boss, I would have had no problem taking an extra 20-30 minutes out of my laundry time.
A healer (i think) who complained the entire run of Void Ark in Alliance chat because he lost a roll on a drop against someone who wanted his item for glamour. I can understand its frustrating to lose a roll to someone who purely wants glamour when you could use said item for yourself as an upgrade but such is life in 24-mans, especially when they just released.
It was mildly annoying to read though.
While I was leveling my BLM last I was 59, i just needed 2 library runs and I would hit 60.
1. We get in, everything goes smoothly, tank dings 60 before first boss and leaves. =___=
2. Got in again not waiting too much.... got a party we start, the whm puts buffs, and before even we start anything already popping divine and presence and I was ok... we get to 1st boss, this healer (no first timer) again does the divine and presence before even engaging and then dies because not fast enough changing the sides; which ok happens.... we retry, same thing, and they just leave...................
I ended doing another try and went in again, thanks god it was a decent run and we finished it..... and then I just did hunts and BT and hit 60 <o<;
The problem is many people doing MSQ nowadays are people who're not playing their main job. So you'll meet a lot of part-time tanks who lack confidence and/or abilities to tank.
Of course I did. No one said anything.
English is not my first language, so I know sometimes my posts don't make sense. I tried to make these posts make as much sense as I could since there was a lot of information, but I've stated many times that no one said anything. They really did not say anything at all.
You're doing just fine, don't worry about your English.
When people say "they said nothing" I think it's fair to assume the poster has tried the basic forms of communication. Replying with the question "did you try asking them?" is a little condescending, no?
Funny thing:
- There are still PTs that can't beat A4 Normal with 8 people. Last time I played it, the second healer left shortly before the pull came but we had a god like Scholar who just healed the complete fight alone and we finished it with 7 player.
In Sohm Al, leveling WHM, I was paired with a level 60 WAR, and level 53 MNK and NIN. First pull, WAR marks target one, I set up Regen and Asylum, DoT's, and have already pulled hate on the other target. The WAR does BB combo and sits at 5 stacks the whole pull. My knowledge of WAR skills, especially post HW, is pretty limited, but this already set off red flags. Next pull, he pulls trash to the Drakespur, until suddenly I find myself tanking one mob, the MNK another. Messy, but we survive. "Sry, bad focus."
It's not a matter of focus I'm seeing, it's lack of job knowledge. The next pull, he tanks 3 mobs away from the Drakespur, and the party keeps getting hit by poison when the pods pop, which does me no favors as the mobs occasionally peel off the WAR and hit the melees. After the third pod blows up in our faces, the MNK breaks off and solos the spur, giving me a brief reprieve from the poison. Towards the end of the pull, I see the WAR use his first (and only) Inner Beast.
From then on, the WAR would blow his stacks on Steel Cyclone > Infuriate > Steel Cyclone, almost exclusively against a single target, never ever AoE. I saw one Thrill, two Vengeances, and maybe a handful of Berserks through the whole run, and we all shared tanking duties. It was one of those runs where I just shook my head, face palmed, and scolded my television set for 30 minutes. I thought about offering tips, but if he had made it to 60 without learning his job, I felt pretty certain he was beyond any assistance I could offer.
Had a run that I dropped from this morning that I knew, within five min, I was going to leave.
Me: level 40 machinist, all gear up to date either dungeon or self made HQ. Incidentally wearing "of the Stalwart Sword," my most recently earned tank title.
Tank: Gladiator sprout with reasonably up to date NQ gear. Healer: Conjurer sprout with okayish NQ gear..
Other dps: level 20 rogue using level 10 knives, and the level 1 glamor pieces from the new event for her head, gloves, legs, and feet. No belt.
First group goes okay. As I expect, I'm pulling a lot of hate despite the tank's use of flash so I just solo the mobs I pick up because there's nothing else I can do. After that first group, I make the mistake of telling the rogue the gear she's wearing is intended for glamor, not dungeons.
She replies that she knows, but hasn't gotten much gear for the job. We fight another group (tank still unable to hold hate off me and the conjurer) and I tell her, still foolishly thinking I'm being helpful, that she can pick up some decent gear at her level from quests around town.
The rogue says she's not doing any questing, just getting her class to NIN and it won't be used again.
The conjurer interject she's doing fine and let's move on.
I shrug in game and drop it.
As we continue, the gladiator continues to solo mobs despite repeated use of flash while I try to keep mobs off the conjurer with blank, which I hate using unless it's a finishing move, or just popping raging strikes or B4B and taking it on myself.
We get to the first boss. The super easy one with tons of weak adds. The conjurer ends up kiting, won't stop running when I say she should stop running or the tank can't take them off her, and the rogue dies due to lack of heals. The conjurer stands there and heals herself while the tank dies. I dps things down until only the boss is left, but the conjurer keeps healing herself and not me so I die, too. Then the gladiator asks for a raise while the boss is still alive.
I explain that she can't because there's no battle raise at that level, add that we all died because she only healed herself and not the party, and left. I really dislike leaving like that, but got basically told they were doing fine and no need for improvement. So if they're not going to try and do a halfway decent job, I don't need to spend an hour on Copperbell suffering alongside them.
I was doing runs last weekend to cap eso and get my Stalwart Sword title. I kept registering for A1, A3, and A4. A4 popped repeatedly. Runs were so bad that only one out of 8 went smoothly, and I had to make multiple tries for some of those clears.
From now on I'm sticking to pony parties to get my war panther. :/
Didnt happen to me, but was on our TS last night and a friend of mine just came back to the game after having her baby. She was doing a level 52 synced dungeon for roulette, and her item level is only 170. The 3 people must have been together b/c they asked her why her item level was so low and not "200". She told them why, and after they finished killing what they were on, they VOTE KICKED her b/c of her item level. They kicked her from a dungeon that syncs you to item level 150..........they were reported for harrassment. Bunch of assholes. *edit: not to mention IDIOTS*
I've noticed some pretty fail trial DF groups lately, too. Roulette is so well named... apparently I've used up my group competence luck for the month. Avoiding Gold Saucer now.
Thank you for understanding.
Thank you, I learned how to read and write in English when I was very young (I am the first generation of my family born in North America so they made learning how to speak and write very important), but I sometimes don't think in the English sentence structure (sometimes this happens when talking too) and things get confusing for other people.Quote:
PS: Your English is fine, don't worry :D
It is funniest when I come across and unfamiliar word. I once had to say "heroine" in front of my college class, I had never said the word before so I said it like "hero-knee" instead of like the drug "heroin", because that was how I read it in my head. Everyone laughed, lol.
I know, but when 7/8 are a friends and they're all doing this for one friend. I don't understand why they don't tell the one pug anything or why they don't go undersized. I could understand if they needed 2 tanks or 2 healers, but I was 1 DPS. It would have been less frustrating for everyone involved, was my point of that statement.
To be fair. That group is at fault and in the wrong.
The joined with 7/8 intending to not skip cutscenes, which is the common way in df. They 100% should have said something at the first boss pull, if it wasn't what they wanted, instead of waiting until the last boss.
Given that they waited that long, and given that they went df to do that, makes me consider them a troll group. Or were they really just too cowardly to say something until the end and then let mob mentality take over.
Trial roulette as WHM, I get Ramuh.
DRG dies immediately because he was in front of the boss, you know where the tank is? Yep there, on top of the tank.
I raised him/her; as I am not really a talker in duties I just said "don't stand in front of the boss".
DRG replies "sry I am learning".
I stared at the screen, laughed a bit and continued to heal.
After that he stayed away from the front. :p
Admittedly I haven't run as many dungeons as most people, considering I took a near year and a half break from the game (and decided to pick up tanking when I came back, losing all knowledge I had of the various dungeons themselves o/). (I left like, maybe two weeks after commendations were a thing -- not because of it, just coincidental timing).
Either way, I haven't had any terrible groups yet. By and large I'll have healers saying I can pull more (I think this was Haukke Manor, where they just mentioned I was practically taking no damage -- he mentioned not having to heal me a single time during the first boss of that instance).
When I first started re-running dungeons I did forget about Grit, but I wasn't having any aggro or survivability issues; I just happened to see it off. And I see some healers spamming Medica when they don't really need to, but DRK generates a lot of hate so it's not a big deal to me. I also see the Blizzard spamming BLM's, but I mostly just care about the thing dying. So long as it dies and no one else died, I'm happy enough.
But most dungeons have gone smoothly, ones that don't go as smoothly is more me missing a mob here or there and needing to go grab it. Most people I run into are pretty chilled out, one guy in Haukke had probably fifty puns and jokes in his pocket (and yes I commended him).
Generally I don't go super fast while tanking since I'm new to the role, and I remember having tanks try to speedrun through dungeons back when I was main healing and they didn't have the stats to pull everything and I'd be spamming everything I could under the sun to keep them alive.
But I have no horror stories of this year. Last year I just remember an angry little SCH who kept "accidentally" blowing me up in Ultima Hardmode when the eruptions target you and you need to run.
Leveling up blm to 60, I sometimes wonder how do people even reach these 57+ lvls. Terrible DF experiences lately, not even on lv60 content. Worst part is they don't want to be taught. /vent
This one is one my favorites from when I was leveling AST. I was doing the Vault and right before the second boss I had to afk (I forget why probably had to answer the door or something). I say in party chat brb after this pull. (killing mobs right before boss) I leave and come back and it couldn't have been more than 2 minutes, and I come back to the tank and blm fighting the boss and of course dying a horrible horrible death. Right before they die the BLM yells out "WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON!?" And the DRG that was with us and smartly chose to stay outside said, "The healer said he was going afk." After they die I feel bad because even though people are dumb and can't read, didn't want them to die. BLM is FURIOUS. He starts swearing and I calmly explained I did say AFK before the boss, but he says he doesn't care and says I'm a terrible healer. Then he demands to be kicked and me and the DRG were happy to let him go. I wished him good luck on the long DPS queues and he was gone. Rest of the run went perfectly not a wipe or anything.
Kids always pay attention to party chat and notice when someone says AFK or BRB :P
So far I have only gone into Void Ark as a blm but I decided today that I wanted the bard pants so I signed up as a bard. I immediately regretted that decision when I saw my party's 5 dps included 2 bards, 2 machinists, and a summoner. Apparently it was enough of a hit to our morale that as soon as the circle disappears and we start running, one person drops, then another, and another. We reach the first trash mob and it is only the tank and me left in our party. At the same time that one of the other tanks pulls, the vote abandon screen pops up, and before I could even click yes or no, it passes. Then I suddenly find myself back in Mist at my FC's house.
Fastest vote abandon I have ever seen. I only waited 2 minutes to get in so I found it funny, but I feel bad for the tanks that probably waited 30+ mins to get in.
Shout out to my party in Pharos Sirius HM today who probably thought I played so bad
thanks for puttin up with me.
My wireless receiver for my controller broke, so I'm using my keyboard till a new one gets to me... it's less than ideal for me. I wanted to try it out though since I haven't used my keyboard primarily since about a month after I started the game...
Guess it's time to max all that gathering stuff and MGP stuff this week......
Not saying their response was good, because it wasn't, but didn't it occur to you that when 6 other people, including tanks, were waiting on someone to finish their cutscenes that maybe that was the plan anyways? You can tell when someone is in a cutscene, you would see that someone is new, so why wouldn't you just be a little patient?
It happened to me too! Dx
Even if I wasn't used to the keyboard anymore, I decided to queue for a duty (pvp) anyway.. That moment when I panicked and got stuck in a wall while trying to run away from the enemy GC (and consequently got murdered) was enough for me.
I spent the rest of my time crafting, gathering and doing some light leveling with FATEs while waiting for the currier to bring me a new receiver.
On my BLM, I queue into Library with a PLD, WHM, NIN.
At book boss and the NIN out of no where starts to get annoyed at the WHM for not bothering to dodge any AOEs. WHM gets defensive. They argue all way until after the second boss, they try to vote kick the NIN, but loot's still rolling.
WHM+PLD who are a duo, get huffy so they sit down and refuse to do anything. At this point I'm actually more annoyed by that than anything. Unfortunately for them, the NIN runs and aggros a bunch of mobs and does their aggro transfer onto the PLD.
Finally the loot times out. The WHM+PLD try to vote abandon. I decline. I have netflix open, so if these people want to drag out a dungeon then I'm more than game. They try again a few more times, but each time it fails. Finally they give up and realize their little protest isn't doing jack and they start pulling again. We kill the final boss without any issue.
I decide to give the NIN my comm.
Oh man that sounds awful.... I've already accidentally killed myself at a couple gathering nodes (curse you, clockwork bit).
AND I keep running off of cliffs; while the autorun is much better with a mouse I also keep forgetting that middle-click turns it on. Go me.
I know sometimes keyboards are easier for others but I just don't see it. Props to you guys.
Because maybe it's common courtesy when you come with a group who wants to let new people see scenes to say: "we have new people we will wait on them to watch the scenes, if you don't like just leave or stay with us and enjoy the slow run" - I don't say it's right to pull, but silence also doesn't answer things.
Er. Wow. That's just... I don't even. I mean, I know we may have to wait for people in MS roulette runs and I can chill while newbies watch cutscenes and strike up conversation with other people in the party if that's the plan, I don't really much care. If they didn't tell you what was going on, how could they expect you to know though? Seriously, what a bunch of idiots.
Have you ever been in a 24 man raid where all three (or six) tanks just shuffle their feet and look at each other and don't pull?
There's usually no reason for it other than you've landed in with passive tanks or maybe just tanks that would rather OT.
Ahaha. Of all the troll uses that skill can be put to, this is easily the best I've heard of.
