Because everyone else is making the comparison. That is what everyone is comparing it to when they said "faster paced". Very few are comparing it to anything else.

What are "you" comparing it to, when you say the faster pace is an illusion?

Sure numbger of WS isnt the only thing that measures speed of combat. But its a big part. And So is kill speed to an extent. (Talking trash mobs, because with Hard mobs they could just give them WAY more HP and still take 10 mins to kill them). And from previous vids we can see that hp, mp, and tp regen outside of combat is also fast.

Are you comparing the pace of combat here to another game?

So without the 3 GCD, it definitely will become spammy and just become us spending time jamming on a button as fast as we can. With it, it's too slow. Giving us the illusion of more going on to keep us engaged, but without it, it's not good graphics and boring. I only have one reply for this:

Level 20 for both mobs and party, yet that conjurer damage is hideous.

Getting deja vu with the "Burst" video...

Doing the spells at level 1 at 1.0 release did more than that.

All subject to change it says, but so was the clip of burst in the video, and we all know how that turned out.

Yeah and that was broken :) CNJ was never supposed to pull off that much dmg and they could do it naked

200 damage for a magic user at the start of a game seems right, over someone doing 80 damage a swing since they don't have to wait for MP.

So seeing the caster do only 40 more damage over the meleers is very depressing to look at.

Apart from the enemy twitching everything looks great.

The time between deciding what to do next and the time it takes to press the key. Three seconds is a long time to do that. If you want to talk about it in relation to 1.0, the main difference is that you won't have to spam nearly as much to fight the latency. It will be more "press it and wait" instead of "press it x number of times until you believe it has gone off."

You can still have an entertaining, complex, and competitive battle system with a 3 second GCD, but what it does is make their life harder to create one. As of now we really have nothing to go on to be confident that that will happen.

Remember they have removed individual recast timers from 1.0, removed positional combos except for the opening WS, and removed your control of TP generation through autoattack/throwing. All that, and a 3 second cushion giving slower players room for error.

It's fair to question what will determine a player's performance. The GCD is only part of the equation.

Casting looks like their rolling dough or trying to DJ.

THANK YOU! PUP/DNC or THF/DNC, you'll be doing so many different things it'll make your head spin!

Mages typically have more variety in their roles, if you don't want to keep spamming. I know against Van Darnus (normal difficulty) I tossed a few nukes in every time he teleported just to keep the DPS up. Now that they're bringing back the water spell (see icons in screenshots/videos) CNJ will have even more to toss out there between heals!
