If it's beta and animations are still as they are, I would also be pretty disappointed. So I'll join your cause if that happens. Otherwise, alpha is really to make sure the game is playable first and fore most. Other aspects can slowly make their way in.
Enjoy your meal~
I'd rather sacrifice the animations for a beautiful world and good gameplay instead of the shitty copypasta world we have now. Any of you that actually prefer 1.0 to this must have Stockholm Syndrome.
I've always wanted MMO's to feature seasons. Even if it would be subtle, a change in colours, atmosphere, music,... .
I don't think we should be making excuses for this company or just easily accepting whatever excuse they come up with. But I also don't think that the whole game hinges on relitivley small features in the full scope of the design.
I think the animations do need to be better and we can't just bank on the idea that it -might- change later. The game might not fail if it isn't improved, sure, but I see no reason for quality to suffer in the hands of some of the most skilled artists in the industry. For a game as visually based in reality as this, things like momentum and transition really give your character that extra hook and makes everything feel all the more alive. This isn't a concern to be stifled, but it isn't one to balence your expectations for the total quality of the game either.
We don't know what's going to happen, so keep those concerns coming, but keep them in check.
To be honest, if the animations improve by the time the game goes into beta, then we will have you and the other people who are making this argument to thank. Sure it may sound like negativity, but she's just trying to get the point across. They made it this way because that was their idea for it. If no one disapproves then they have no reason to change it. I'm sure they have lots of other things planned that they would rather spend time doing.
It may seem like you're arguing against everyone, but I support your effort to try make all aspects of 2.0 worthy of praise.
