Bebe Kurenai has a kind of long story which I will make short. First, Kurenai because my favourite color is red and FF is a japanese game.
Bebe I've been using for 2 decades now. Since I was a girl, my fav books were, besides the Neverending Story, the Children of the Earth Saga, written by Jean M Auel, and featuring Ayla and the Neanderthals. During one of the books, Ayla encounters a wolf pup and tames it, naming it Baby, Bebé in spanish (I'm half spanish). When I was in my 20s, I had a dog whom I named Bebe, after Ayla's wolf, and she passed away. As a form of rememberance, I've then taken over the name ever since and used it as my nickname.
Spanish speaking who know me, will call me Bebé, others Bebe like the blonde Bebe in South Park.

"Reimmi" came from star ocean 4 way back in 2009 for me, and it's just been my nick name since. Use it in most games i play where i can choose my name
stark came from being a gigantic game of thrones nerd, lol.

Mine is just a name randomly generated by FFXI way back when I first started playing it, with a randomly generated last name from XIV.

I wanted a lore friendly name so I picked a few tribes I liked and messed around with the generator. I liked the look of N'welhi, and naturally as an adventurer he wouldn't be a Nuhn so I figured N'welhi Tia.
But then I started thinking up his back story and decided on a Roegadyn foster father (since their names are so cool). Picked Syhrai for his foster father, followed the naming conventions for Roes and slapped on syn ("son") to create N'welhi Syhraisyn.
I really love the naming conventions for ffxiv. They're creative and aesthetically pleasing. ^^

Lol I have a legion of characters at this point. Names are fun and honestly I do try to keep things within the conventions of the game so things feel consistent. Not gonna say all the names b/c too many but some.
Main is Cenric Asher. As a Hyur Midlander, my understanding is most (not all) names are Anglo-Saxon or Briton in origin, and surnames tie to profession or appearance normally. Cenric is old English for "bold power" while Asher more or less means "of Ash". Ash normally = Ash tree, but since it's not explicit linguistically I'm running with "Bold Power of Ash" as in what comes up after a fire. Figured that would be fun since he's a black mage who blows stuff up on the regular, also I am doing some story stuff with ties to death/cremation/fire/Ifrit/Nald'Thal/etc. so tone fits there. And more simply, tbh a lot of the other Anglo-Saxon/Briton/etc. names just weren't fitting, sounded awkward, or I associate too strongly with something else. I used mainly this and this source though. Cenric gets spelled Cynric or Cyneric in first link and translates out to powerful, I used a more common spelling that would reflect off the "eh" sound in AshEr.
Kiyo Shirogane, Kiyo is a name that iirc was used in the Japanese Edo period (as per Raen Au Ra names) and comes out to "clean, exorcise, pure, or purify". Shirogane, besides being part of Kugane, refers to "white metal" or silver. Since I am spinning Kiyo as a white mage and going for an origin in Kugane (where Raen can be found in the population, so not purely isolationist Sui no Sato) it seemed like it would work. I also thought it might be fun and cute to have her be from a wealthy, aristocratic family that was involved in molding the city itself. If a Shirogane family was behind the construction of Shirogane for adventurers to live in, Kiyo being an adventurer herself seems a little poetic to me.
J'mor Tia, Tia is because this character is a male Seeker of the Sun who isn't leading a tribe. J' is because the J tribe seems to be Ala Mhigan and conceivably this character would fit in there visually. 'mor is because when I looked into Seeker tribe info I read that the J' sounds like "Jah" and I thought "Jah-more" sounded neat and fits the character.
Kokono Kono is a female Lalafell Dunesfolk and uses the syllable rules involved there. Also in Japanese the fox says "kon" and I designed this lala to be a little fox with some ties to auspices. So her name sounds like fox noises.
Asklona Wanneynwyn is a female Roegadyn Seawolf. Asklona translates to "Ash Gatherer" and Wanneynwyn translates to "Daughter of Empty One". All fits within Seawolf naming conventions. I went a little eerie and gothy for her partly just 'cause I felt like it, partly because I was debating whether to bring in some ideas about ghost ships and sirens and such for her. She's gonna be a bard at some point and I figure it could be fun. Didn't realize the ash repetition until writing this up but honestly I don't mind at this point.
Cesaire Delaroux is French because Elezen in general use French influence on many fronts. I didn't go super strict with name guidelines outside that because the character ties to Ishgard and Ishgard itself doesn't always adhere strictly. Cesaire ties some to Caesar as a conqueror, Delaroux = Of the Red. This character I'm leaning to make look very light in an angelic sorta way but he might have some hardcore bloodlust happening.
For this group I still plan to hit a Viera and Hrothgar so it's 8 total, but need to know naming conventions before I can decide anything.

Originally I was a Miqo'te and had the name Sakuya Meido, a play on Sakuya the Maid, yes the one form Touhou. Yes, I played ninja for a bit in a maid outfit. So sue me.
Buuuut I got more absorbed into the lore of the game and changed my name to N'Sakya Malha. Keeping the Saky bit of Sakuya because my FC had gotten into the habit of calling me Saky as both a shorthand and nickname.
Eventually I changed to being a Xaela and dropped the N' from my name, along side a BIG rewrite of my personal character lore...which after Stormblood, got another massive rewrite (Thank you Azim Steppe.) and now I'm here as I am, Sakya Malha. Xaela Astrologian, Warrior of Light, lost member of the Mol and the snarky leader of the Xaela tribes of The Steppe, least for now.

I thought about it. Liked it. And picked it.
Funny thing: Turns out Curtis Wilson is some kind of news guy in real life. Now I’m kind of concerned.
